Completely agree but still Apple has again some advantages since they own both hardware and software so this means in future once Apple get their design improved it might be better than Android Wear. But also i'm looking what traditional Watches Makers like Tag Heuer and Fossil will do with Android Wear.

I'm surprised you didn't mentioned Fortran as i don't consider it an "unfashionable" language but it's old and still used a lot in scientific work for Maths and Physics areas.

The biggest reason is the performance, portability and the code already written some time ago.

Since some time i want to express my opinion on Smartwatches specifically the Apple Watch.

- The UI, imho, it's ugly when compared to Android Wear. It needs a refresh to keep up and align with iOS. Possibly better hardware ?

- First of all this is a watch, stop treating like it's the ultimate Computer. It has potential to be great but it isn't yet.

- Apple needs to stop advertising like "you badly need an Apple Watch as a companion for your iPhone or you will have a not so happy life. This is a watch, there are people who never use a regular watch and those that will probably buy one will use it as a regular watch plus Phone notifications or tiny apps.

- All these reviews are a result of Apple Marketing, see above, the product is just the first model it will get better just don't expect to replace your Phone or laptop.

- Why don't people threat it just like a regular nice watch like Fossil, Citizen or Seiko ? Or even if they want like a Tag Heuer (for the gold model).

For years developers used C++ without most of these features and built great code. So this is not the problem of C. There are still lot's of great code done in C.

First of all it's only available in US :) second the comment system is weak compared to Twitch not to mention that they will never be able to make a community around it like Twitch did.

Spotify gets releases much sooner and better curation imho.

All of these will probably mean Facebook might have an opportunity in Videos. Recently Youtube screwed up with Gaming which cannot compete even close with Twitch, older attempts to provide a premium service also failed now this is just pissing off everybody.

Again it's Chrome only so not a general Desktop API

In terms of mobile any plans for the future you can reveal? How do you feel about Siri, Google Now and Cortana is it something you think DDG can do or can be used as a backend/source ?

With the new iPhone 6s you shouldn't have this problem as they have 2GB RAM. At least i have much more issues in my Nexus 5 than with my iPad Air 2 (with 2GB RAM)

Where is the API ? The last I've known they only have it available in Android and iOS so no desktop yet.

To be honest i'm surprised with the adoption of C++11, i know the toolchain supports C++11 since some time but still i can imagine there's lots of legacy code using C++03 or older.

Why?

I would choose:

C++ - yes low level programming, stable, lot's of resources, general usage and lot's of great libraries.

Python - Modern and easy scripting language. This to me is the swiss knife (and replaced Perl) of modern scripting programming languages. It can be used in nearly every project.

Swift/Rust - Both are great languages, I believe both will have a great future maybe Rust will take more time to gain traction.

I'm waiting for a Remaster for years, we had Pingus a while ago and it seems the development is back to the track again. I hope Sony change their mind and make Lemmings again.

Has a former GNOME Fundation member I would like to wish my deepest condolences to his family. It's very sad to see someone leave us so young. The FOSS lost a great mind, his work will was/is/will be in our Linux Desktop for some time.

That's the point, FB is people personal ID in the Internet (I guess Google+ was suppose to have this task), and this is the reason why we have so many apps working with FB which is the central point for everything - login, pictures, address, tlf number etc...

Unfortunately, in my opinion, Facebook is here to stay.

Reasons: - Local/OSS/decentralized social networks will not work for the common population because their friends and updates will not be there.

- Video based is already a success, see Twitch, but people sometimes prefer text and likes.

- Messenger only is also a success, see Whatsapp/FB messenger, but some people have the need to expose themselves to people outside their groups.

- Pinterest, Instagram and Google+ have their own public which mostly likely are also in FB. They use it for difference purposes.

- Twitter, well this one it's difficult. First of all most of the communication is public and some users are not interested in that. Also there's a lot of self promotion messages which does not mean it will engage users to communicate. Finally Twitter tries to reinvent itself and the features are not consistent. i.e. For several weeks they enabled translations and after it was disabled. Twitter might have a chance to engage more people with Tvshows, movies, music and personalities.

Facebook after all is the social network which is easier to get started, makes a balance between public and private/groups, lot's of features available (games, messenger, groups etc...) and families and friends in the same feed. I guess it's pretty hard to beat that currently for other social networks.

Do we really want to compare "sudo apt-get install build-essentials" with installing all VS, Perl,Python etc... in Windows ? :)

Windows badly needs this to be a general Development OS. Lot's of developers in the last years run away from Windows to OSX and Linux because of this.

Without Visual Studio, which installs the C++ and .Net dev env, it's a pain to install anything which works out of the box in Windows.

Example: Perl or Python both have an installer but you have to update the system PATH, the console sucks so you can never use it, no simple way to keep it update unless you use the installer again and so on...

If all these goodies are available in a "unixy away" i'm sure Windows will be used by general Developers.

I wonder which technology they are using to archive multi platform ? Are they going native Qt, Gtk and Cocoa or they use Mono and Window.Forms ?

I like it! Specially because it explains exactly what the code does in a generic way. But to me, personally, it's far too much "modern" C++ or C++11 oriented, it would be nice to have with the same clean design for the "old" C++.

Any reason for not having any snippet with the "new style" range based for loops ?

I understand perfectly this because I had a Galaxy Nexus and as soon as I got Jelly Bean update Bluetooth stopped working properly. Now I have a Nexus 5 and it's by far the best phone I had but recently and as much as I like Lollipop this kind of bugs without updates are unacceptable. For use iOS also had have problems and I remember my first week with iPad air 2 where safari crashed the whole system but Apple managed to fix this.

So this leaves my thinking I will not get a Nexus as my next phone. I would rather get an iPhone or a HTC/Samsung. I won't do the same mistake for the third time. I love nexus and his potential but Google doesn't care about their costumers.

This update is very welcome and for sure it will make people create more interesting "projects". Personally i'm very excited to get one of these to run owncloud at decent performance in my home. Also the possibility to install more Linux distributions or even Windows 10 will open much possibilities for development. Well Done!!
