lmedinas··on $365B wiped off cryptocurrency market after Tesla stops accepting Bitcoin
> While the market in general is down, the major losses in this crash were Bitcoin, Doge and Shiba. Bitcoin is an obvious result given the news. Doge and Shiba have had pretty spectacular gains over the last ~30d and seeing them lose considerable value is unsurprising if you follow crypto markets much.

the interesting thing is that all those 3 coin crashes were again due to Elon Musk. He has been spreading the FUD all this time. I wonder how influencing markets is legal.

lmedinas··on Apple Podcasts Subscriptions
Listenting to Podcasts on Overcast how is that ads and tracking ? If you mean ads from the content creator, well sure they deserve to get money but Apple making money out of the content creator, well that's sad.
lmedinas··on Apple Podcasts Subscriptions
this is why we cannot have good things... somebody thinks about making money with the content creators and the users and screws everything.
lmedinas··on Intel Rocket Lake (14nm) Review: Core i9-11900K, Core i7-11700K, Core i5-11600K
Actually to me this generation seems like its even a regression compared to the previous due to the reduction of cores and increase of Power consumption.

Does look good for Intel :/

lmedinas··on Voltswagen of America
I can speak for the ID4, yes you can do this. Sure you will not get the 520km on paper and of course it depends how you driving it but you get around 400km with ok weather conditions, AC and seat/driving wheel heating. In Winter with negative temperatures I got high consumptions but I learned it might also have to do with the fact the batteries where not hot enough.
lmedinas··on Voltswagen of America
Same about the ID4. Its a great "normal" EV SUV. the ID3 is to the Golf what the ID4 is to the Tiguan. Plus I have no issues with the >400Kms range with such a vehicle.
lmedinas··on Voltswagen of America
the VW ID4 is a great family car, imo its worth the wait.
lmedinas··on Voltswagen of America
Most likely this is even an April fools and a good one (idea) because it hit all the big media ;)
lmedinas··on Voltswagen of America
I always thought the NA pronunciation was "Walks Wegon". xD.
lmedinas··on Voltswagen of America
> And last I looked the id.3 isn't coming to North America and the id.4 is a "maybe next year" kind of deal and the electric van they've been promising since about 2015 is now projected for 2023 when I recall in previous press releases talk about it coming out several years ago.

This is false, the ID4 is already being sold in US. ID3 is in fact not going to US.

lmedinas··on Ask HN: Which phone do you use?
I use an iPhone 8 which i got 2 years ago for a good price, new. From work i have an iPhone SE 2. I cannot see myself moving to another phone soon as i really like the form factor, cameras and iOS. The iPhone specially coupled with the Apple Watch is excellent.

As much as i liked the philosophy of Android i don't see myself returning back. I used before the Galaxy Nexus, Android One model and a Samsung S9.

lmedinas··on Ask HN: What's your ideal tool for collecting ideas or brainstorming?
I used to use Emacs org-mode now I just use Apple Notes, simply works. For small drafts whatever I need to do quickly without saving I use VSCode to keep text in the tab without saving to a file.
lmedinas··on Audi announces end of combustion A4, A6 and A8 models
this is great news... i got an VW ID.4 this week and its an amazing good family car. VAG is definitely on the right way.
lmedinas··on Support for the IPFS Protocol – Firefox Bugzilla
with Safari is pretty terrible.
lmedinas··on Getting Started with Brave
@Jonathansampson will Brave adopt Manifest V3 (which will in principle remove some functionality from adblockers) from Chrome/Chromium ? Or do you plan to use your own solution ?
lmedinas··on Getting Started with Brave
if Brave blockers are not enough you can get uBlock origin.
lmedinas··on Getting Started with Brave
Safari is good, my dealbreak is the adblockers. Ive been using Safari since 2 months im already desperate to use Firefox, Chrome or even give Brave a try. And no, none of the available adblocker for Safari works well.
lmedinas··on Holiday Hacking – Tracking my heart rate while playing Call of Duty
Interesting... i dont think i have the courage to measure my heart rate while playing Escape from Tarkov.
lmedinas··on Ask HN: What Lived Up to the Hype?
one of the top movies ever, unfortunately the sequels were really bad (Batman returns is still ok) until The Dark Knight come out, which is as good or better.

For me Jack Nicholson Joker > Heath Ledger Joker.

lmedinas··on Ask HN: What Lived Up to the Hype?
I really liked DS2, I understand why its the "weak" of the bunch but its still an incredible good game.
lmedinas··on Ask HN: What Lived Up to the Hype?
im a bit confused with your comment, doesn't Stadia Pro supports 4K and HDR ?
lmedinas··on Ask HN: What Lived Up to the Hype?
I would add also The Sopranos, Entourage and How I met your mother. Fantastic TVShows.
lmedinas··on Facebook Declared War on Apple, and It Just May Signal the End of Facebook
another end of the world blah blah blah article. The truth is both are still doing extremely good and FB for sure will not end here. On top of this im extremely disappointed that Apple has the power to take these measures and regulate other companies within their Walled garden. What is US and World identities doing ? Why does it need to be another company with a Monopoly to regulate other ?
lmedinas··on Ask HN: Do you miss being excited about programming/tech?
I feel that my first years of Internet and computers was kinda like the "Age of Innocence" where you would get to explore something with an enormous potential, still in its infancy, where lots of people like me where trying to figure out what to do with it. Nowadays, referring to the Internet, everything comes with a grain of salt for monetary reasons. I cannot trust in every new technology that comes everyday like I used to.

I think this is one of the reasons why I don't feel excited like before. Plus I think the walled garden mobile platforms also contributed a lot to loose my excitement. I used to be a hardcore Linux fan and I lost completely my hope on Linux Desktop years ago.

lmedinas··on Ask HN: Do you miss being excited about programming/tech?
that Compiz WM was so incredible unstable in the first years. I think another reason was that lots of people (like me) lost their hope on the "Linux year of the Desktop". Today I see far less innovation and "dream ideas" on Linux than I saw 15 years ago.
lmedinas··on Ask HN: What are your best purchases in 2020?
- MacBook Pro 2020 Apple M1: This laptop is simply amazing. It replaced my iPad Air 2 as my goto device to browse or have some quality time. I even reduce my gaming time to use this computer.
lmedinas··on Ask HN: Is C++ a better language than C?
I guess so, that's why its so popular. Despise of what some people say about it, it tries to make better for all C flaws and introduces modern features to bring continuity to the language.
lmedinas··on Apple targets car production by 2024, eyes ‘next level’ battery tech: sources
Well i guess Tesla means a lot of things nowadays:

- Most advanced Technology in a Car at this moment both battery-wise or SW. - People are starting cults around Tesla, specially geeks and nerds. Similar to Apple :) - Tesla means today EV.

Everybody identifies Tesla with the most advanced EV.

You are right, they were probably not the first ones, but the ones easily identifiable as the EV and Car Technology. This is what they have as advantage compared to other EVs.

lmedinas··on I Bought Apple Silicon
i guess it depends on what you call slow and what you get used to it. I have an iMac 27" 2012 and i barely can do anything with it.
lmedinas··on Ask HN: I got a Raspberry Pi what should I do?
Smarthome. Best use of RPI for me.
