When I adopted Foregjo I did so because I didn't like the sound of some political arguments across threads about some alleged security issues Foregjo raised with Gitea who allegedly ignored them.

What keeps you using Gitea? I'm wondering if I should try it over Foregejo now.

I also have a self hosted Foregejo on a Pi (but probably not much longer) that acts as a mirror of my GitHub. The main issues I keep facing are:

- Repositories seem to mirror fine for a few weeks and stop. Pretty useless. I have a PAT token for it that does not expire, and yet it seems to claim otherwise, despite the token working elsewhere when I test it.

- Sometimes there is nothing in the logs, sometimes it's the database being locked for some reason. The only thing that uses the database is Forgejo.

- So far I haven't been able to tell if this is Forgejo, crappy SD IO on the Pi causing database locks, or Forgejo sucking at being a mirror.

Did he at least get the book back? The one time I ever let anyone borrow my books, was a HTML 4 book, and I got it back in such a poor state I never did again.

This is really cool. My site is hosted by cloudflare, so I guess I could do the same with a cloudflare worker... maybe?

I had the same experience in the UK around 2005 to 2011, I wonder if it's the same everywhere?

I feel that my experience was far worse and bordering on the absurd and bureaucratic. We spent years following instructions, taking screenshots of us opening specific windows and dialogs in Office etc, saving all these screenshots into a Word document, and then printing the document.

To be clear, it was every single action you took. Moved the mouse to "Insert"? Don't click it yet, take a screenshot of your mouse on the "Insert" button, and then click it, and take a screenshot of the menu that opened. Then, take more screenshots of moving your mouse to buttons and lists in dialogs that opened. Then, take a screenshot of the document with the thing you just inserted.

Now, write several paragraphs in detail about what you just did. Print everything, and that includes both the document you just created for the exercise and then the document writing about the document creating exercise with all it's dozens of screenshots.

Each individual printed piece of paper needed to be kept in a plastic wallet, which was then kept in document folder. In the end we had multiple of these document folders that were without a doubt a complete waste of paper and time.

The argument was that it was needed in case the exam board decided it needed to double check the teachers scores, which I think never happened once anyway. There was never once a reason given for why each individual piece of paper needed to be put in a plastic wallet.

This was during a period of time where CS education at schools had essentially totally vanished from the curriculum for decades, it was added back after I'd finished school.

Words cannot describe how much I despised the entire ordeal. There simply are not enough words to describe the total absurdity of an IT class requiring screenshots of clicking buttons and being printed onto paper.

While the teacher was trying to explain how to add PowerPoint transitions I was writing scripts that would fetch currency conversions and graph them because I was that bored. One time I write some terrible "chat" system via some type of free shared HTML/PHP hosting and meta tag based auto refreshing of the chat history for a few class friends to talk across the room.

You can tell security has become complete theatre when people are registering domains and setting up a whole fucking website for individual ones.

I've often wondered why no one has built an issue tracker with Git notes, or if one exists, why it's not widespread.

Is the intention that you "fork" the PCB design and use it as a base/template for you own schematics/PCB design, or something else?

Just watch out Hetzner don’t fail to take a payment from you from their end then proceed to flag your account for non-payment all while communicating absolutely nothing about this to you arriving at the conclusion they will delete all your servers and ban your account and identity from ever using them again.

I now advise people to avoid clown-led services like Hetzner and stick to more reputable, if not as cheap, options.

Probably the only even slightly relevant thread I’ll ever find for this so here goes. There is a certain visitor in the “Madrid Autonomous Community” (whatever that is) which frequently requests just my homepage, no other page on my site, over and over again.

It comes in waves, and it’s not enough to affect anything, but it’s very weird because when I did some digging by looking at the ASN there was actually only one active IP address and if I browse to it I get someone’s Synology NAS login page.

Why would someone setup their NAS to randomly keep pinging my homepage?

My problem with it was that it looked truly disgusting and I don’t say that lightly. They had essentially cloned the Reddit “new” theme that has the all too common obnoxious overuse of white space over content.

I’ve absolutely seen adverts on TV in the UK by Microsoft advertising Microsoft Cloud. Azure was not mentioned anywhere…

It would have been less controversial to place an ad somewhere at the top of the screen. Putting it in the Markdown feels like a very deliberate and antagonistic fuck you to everyone.

That last part about it acting like a junior matches my experience very well. I'm using LLM's for refactoring, adding repetitive blocks of code, etc.

Unless I'm very clear at all times it will write code like the most annoying stubborn junior you've ever worked with. Nothing is sacred, everything can be abbreviated, shortened, made more confusing, made less readable, and concepts like readability or naming conventions are not even considered.

It also adds superfluous nonsense comments that don't explain the "why".

The Excalidraw website describes itself as: Excalidraw is a virtual collaborative whiteboard tool that lets you easily sketch diagrams that have a hand-drawn feel to them.

And the GitHub repo says: An open source virtual hand-drawn style whiteboard. Collaborative and end-to-end encrypted.

It's the intended design...

Why go through all that instead of updating the ISO to bypass all that?

I use Rufus boot to change downloaded ISOs to allow local accounts and bypass other nonsense. Like TPM and other crap. This allows me to use 11 on my PC I built in 2015.

The gymnastics VPS providers force people to go through just so they can have some dumb "wizard" with a limited number of OS choices is maddening. Just allow people to upload an ISO!

It's funny that these all look more modern than you typically see on desktops.
