lkjaero··on How far can you go by train in 5h?
Sadly this site doesn't seem to be maintained still, there's lots of contributions that aren't getting merged. https://github.com/mapnificent/mapnificent_cities

Low inflation and high inflation are entirely different things, especially if you mean hyperinflation. During high inflation, monetary transactions break down because nobody wants to hold cash. Why would you sell things today if you would be better off selling tomorrow? Business breaks down, and that's reflected in the stock market.
lkjaero··on How the Nintendo Switch prevents downgrades by irreparably blowing its own fuses
Maybe this is a dumb question, but can these fuses be blown by accident? Eg: too much power in the switch. How do they mitigate this?
lkjaero··on Poetry – Dependency Management for Python – v1.0
This looks pretty nice! Definitely reminds me of the node ecosystem.
lkjaero··on Show HN: Spaced Repetition System for iOS
Love the idea! Is there any way to import existing Anki decks? I don't want to start my learning from scratch.

The database stores the data, the rest API handles the business logic. Django has multiple plugins for providing a REST API, such as Tastypie. http://tastypieapi.org/ With this, django is the API. A rest API is good for when you want to share data between multiple clients (eg a website and mobile apps) and want to have more complicated business logic than the database can provide by itself.

CD quality is not 192 kbps. 320 is the maximum bit rate that a MP3 can provide, and is the standard for the other lossy formats (such as AAC). These formats compress audio by cutting out difficult to hear frequencies. By contrast, CD quality is considered lossless, because it represents the entire frequency of the sound wave. 320 kbps is less data than a CD. Whether the jump from a good quality MP3 to a lossless format gives you a higher quality listening experience is up for debate, but 126 kbps is definitely terrible.

This website can help you compare the bit rates and see if you can hear the difference. http://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/h...

lkjaero··on Try out Stanford's CoreNLP natural language software
But it won't ever have trouble, because it's not trying to understand the sentence. It will tell you the most probable parsing of that sentence based on its model, whether or not it makes sense to a human.
