lizardactivist··on Paul Le Roux is Satoshi?
I've always believed it is Nick Szabo.
lizardactivist··on Is Europe just not good at innovating?
Of course we are. Just not good at marketing, nor willing to take big leaps of faith.
lizardactivist··on Globalization is dead and no one is listening
We often speak broadly like this, just like you speak about how Russia and China (everyone living there, apparently) are bad. It doesn't mean we're saying that every single person in that country is to blame.

I say that the USA is to blame for the end of globalization, you don't, and so we have to agree to disagree.

lizardactivist··on Globalization is dead and no one is listening
Thanks, USA. Globalization was only good as long as they thought they could come out on top and make everyone else dependent and obedient.

We should have continued to strive for globalization, and left the USA behind to implode into its own collapsed mess. Now we're just turning our backs to China and Russia, pretend we're the "good guys" and that everything's amazing.

lizardactivist··on Tell HN: Your Android carrier can remotely turn settings on
Not sure if it's related or just Apple's data-greed and malice, but on a previous iPhone, iMessage and FaceTime would turn on by itself every time the phone was restarted, again 24 hrs later, and one final time 48 hrs after that.
lizardactivist··on North Korea’s Hackers Became Dangerously Good
Do these mythical hackers actually exist, though?

North Korea has been demonized for so long that you can accuse them of anything, and everyone will believe it without question. A game that the USA in particular plays often and well, not only with North Korea.

They're an easy target when a plausible perpetrator is needed.

lizardactivist··on Theranos exec Sunny Balwani sentenced to 13 years in prison
Surprised that he got a longer sentence than Holmes. She really must have made him out like the devil during interrogation and trial. No doubt the nasty old US American racism factored into it, too.
lizardactivist··on Apple introduces end-to-end encryption for backups
"E2EE" is probably more like it. I have no doubts there will be a data, picture, movie or some-such leak eventually that proves that the encryption keys were in the hands of Apple all along.
lizardactivist··on Russia risks becoming ungovernable and descending into chaos
Considering what the US has done to countries it has declared enemies in both recent and distant past, I imagine they are already hard at work to make this happen, with no consideration for anyone or anything other than how it benefits their own ambitions.
lizardactivist··on Sci-fi illustrations by Shigeru Komatsuzaki (1915-2001)
I remember several of these featuring inside and on the covers of programming books for the 8-bit home computers of the 80's.
lizardactivist··on The U.S. military is poisoning Okinawa
The article states that the US even denies it and interfers when the local government wants to investigate.

Absolutely despicable, well on form for the US.

lizardactivist··on Microsoft Is Forcing Me to Buy MacBooks
"This allows laptops to perform small house-keeping tasks while they're asleep"

- or to be remotely logged on to and operated, without your knowing.

A computer system that is on and connected the internet while you thought it was turned off, is IMO an attack vector.

lizardactivist··on France prepares for possibility of electricity blackouts during winter months
You cannot be serious. Why would Russia blow up their own pipeline instead of just saying "no"?

Did you even listen to the US in the weeks leading up to the invasion of Ukraine? They were agitating more about Nord Stream and their own Energy Dominance agenda than actually talking about Ukraine, and to top it off Biden literally said right in front of the cameras that we want to stop the EU from buying Russian gas, and in fact we have a way of doing that.

lizardactivist··on No longer possible for the public to learn who owns a EU company
What a boon for the US conglomerates this would be.
lizardactivist··on South Dakota first to ban TikTok on state-owned devices
While the US is urging a ban on TikTok, I'm curious why the world at whole is not waking up and banning US-owned and operated social media - obviously it's an even bigger risk.
lizardactivist··on Puter
These types of systems are interesting, but I wonder if there's any use case where you would prefer them over the one you're browsing from.

FriendOS is arguably also the most advanced and complete of these systems: https://friendos.com/

lizardactivist··on Apple blocks Coinbase Wallet
I'm literally waiting for the day Apple attempts to take a cut on people's income via their banking app.
lizardactivist··on New York City hiring top rat killer
First, it's NY, the dirtiest city in the world and planet earth's own asshole.

Second, if the city hasn't realized they need to introduce containerized and properly sealed garbage collection city-wide by now, they never will.

lizardactivist··on Sperm counts worldwide are plummeting faster than we thought
Stick around. The world and things in general will get better.
lizardactivist··on Mozilla, Microsoft yank TrustCor's root certificate authority
Stay the heck away from these small-time CAs. In particular if they are based in North America or have any ties to the US Goverment.
lizardactivist··on Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk's salvo
With iStuff and generally Apple things, I keep getting the feeling that I don't actually own and control the device, I rent it, and it is Apple who ultimately controls it.
lizardactivist··on Notes on ExFAT and Reliability (2021)
Sorry, I can't recall in detail.
lizardactivist··on Notes on ExFAT and Reliability (2021)
Thanks
lizardactivist··on Notes on ExFAT and Reliability (2021)
Builtin driver back in 10.12 or 10.13.
lizardactivist··on Notes on ExFAT and Reliability (2021)
I've had problems with exFAT on macOS where both files and disks become corrupt.

I can't nail the problem down exactly, but it appears to me that if you delete files [using the macOS FS drivers] then it may also overwrite other, random blocks on the disk.

lizardactivist··on JSON Hero: Enhanced JSON structure visualization
I'm not sure about the way-over-the-top name of the product, but it does look useful. Also, how much data is collected, and can people trust pasting in sensitive stuff there?
lizardactivist··on Neighbors built 10Gbit fiber-optic network after attempted extortion by Comcast
I love stuff like this. People sticking it to the man after being victims of abusive business tactics for years, if not decades.
lizardactivist··on Meta claims US military link to online propaganda campaign
Drop in the ocean. I recall reading an article several years ago on how they publically announced job openings at a US Airforce base for _1000_ people, and they made it clear that the job was to maintain and operate multiple online accounts and personas.
lizardactivist··on South Asian people undergo type 2 diabetes remission with low calorie diets
It always amazes me that all types of nutrition are folded into the single "calorie" in these discussions.
lizardactivist··on German privacy watchdogs conclude that Microsoft 365 is incompatible with GDPR
Good. The sooner this data-siphon is cut off from the EU the better.
