I got a 2001 Honda Accord passed down from my dad in 2016 and drove it for three years before I sold it for 2000 bucks, and the reason I sold it was because my dad had a spare 2013 Lexus RX350 I got to drive. I now drive a 2024 Toyota 4Runner and have been absolutely loving the car with least amount of smart tech.
I think that is the nature of being a software engineer, even before AI you had to keep learning new libraries/SDKs/APIs/languages to keep up with the industry trend. I think it will remain the same in the age of AI, good engineers will adapt.
Go to countries with lower cost of living than where you are, travel around, avoid doom scrolling on the internet, and I think you will figure it out on the way.
There’s also one specifically for God - 祂, and one for animal - 牠, the first one you can see frequently in Chinese bibles or churches, the latter is rarely used.
I occasionally enjoy well executed ads, like something that’s creative enough to make me curious, but nowadays, I’m seeing a lot of ads on YouTube that’s obviously low-effort AI slop, they are boring, fake, and depressing.
I scuba dive in Monterey, CA every other weekend, and just came back from a liveaboard in Galapagos in May. The water is much warmer this year, and it is very noticeable because usually in Galapagos, divers are expected to wear 8mm wetsuit or dry suit to be comfortable in the water, but this year even a 5mm made me feel too warm. In Monterey, water temp used to be around 11-13°C but this year it’s easily above 16°C, divers also reported more sightings of spiny lobsters which were rare in Monterey because water was too cold for them.

I did B.S. in software engineering instead computer science in college, and there were classes that indeed taught the industry software engineering process like you mentioned.
I always bring two phones when I travel, sometimes more than two, mostly because I’m a mobile engineer so I need devices to test apps on, but also just in case of situation like this.
Based on my own experience, there are already a lot of images/video/music that cannot be distinguished. There are tons of them on bilibili.com, a major video-sharing platform in China. Many of them are actually pretty good/enjoyable. On top of that, AI generated short form series are extremely popular now in China.
> Overall my view is that AI is structurally a technology that tends to concentrate power, for reasons that have nothing to do with regulation (more to do with the extreme implications of the scaling laws).
If only money thirsty capitals didn’t drain the HBM/DRAM/NAND capacity to rush to build out all the data centers so that they can make money off of inference, driving up memory prices like mad man leaving consumers with not only no chance of local inference setup, but also higher price of consumer electronics. Of course it has nothing to do with regulation, more to do with the greed.
I was scuba diving on a liveaboard in the Galápagos around May this year. The water was so warm that even a 5mm wetsuit made me feel hot, which is unusual for the Galápagos, where divers typically wear 7mm wetsuits or drysuits.
Well I’m a heavy Flutter user myself, and the app I built Hacki often gets reviews saying it doesn’t feel native on iOS. I personally don’t have anything against it and I think Flutter has the BEST developer experience compared to other mobile app dev toolkit/SDKs.
Define right, it’s hard to replicate the native UI especially Liquid Glass on iOS because it’s rendering everything using its own rendering engine, making it hard to feel right on iOS. I have also seen a lot of companies move away from flutter to either native or React Native.
