linusnext··on Chinese ‘students’ keep getting arrested at Key West Navy base
Hard to walk up to an rc-135 in flight.
linusnext··on Chinese ‘students’ keep getting arrested at Key West Navy base
This is an issue as there is a large sigint site at the Truman Annex. Makes me think they are seeing what antennas and other items exist there watching Cuba. Maybe China has some interest in Cuba now? As far as sigint sites go, this one is the most accessible due to being the southern most point in the USA. We always had problems with tourist wandering up the beach and around the fence.

True or not, you have my apathy and my down vote.*

* My memory says I spent way too much on an iPhone. My ego says that can't be true, and in the end memory yields. -nietzsche

linusnext··on New Cambridge Analytica Leaks
That's the evidence? Just because you want to believe it does not make it true.
linusnext··on New Cambridge Analytica Leaks
The statement that the stolen data was used for the campaign is contradicted by the interview link provided.
linusnext··on New Cambridge Analytica Leaks
Specifically "which infamously used stolen Facebook data to target voters for President Donald Trump’s campaign in the 2016 U.S. election" from the article is inaccurate.

5 Million was for ad buys on TV. The rest was just for support staff that actually were not employees of CA.
linusnext··on New Cambridge Analytica Leaks
The story incorrectly reports the company was hired for the trump campaign to do data work. As per https://youtu.be/yjn6wK01cqk?t=1878 only staff were hired.

Won't be a "distro"... What do they think the D in OpenBSD stands for?

He's being Matriotic. He lives in a Motherland, not a Fatherland.
linusnext··on Authentication Vulnerabilities in OpenBSD
Yeah, the "it's secure as long as you don't use it for anything" gets old.
linusnext··on Authentication Vulnerabilities in OpenBSD
Security is not Boolean
linusnext··on Authentication Vulnerabilities in OpenBSD
Show me, as the owner of the openbsd server, how to change the default configuration to suit a purpose that exceeds the very limited set of services enabled.
linusnext··on Authentication Vulnerabilities in OpenBSD
There have been many bugs in NetBSD code that are found and fixed. Quite often these bugs are in code shared with OpenBSD, but you never see them list it as such, as they import said fixes from NetBSD.

edited: make verb plural.

The marriage operator is always a source of fun like this. So named as it's the end of options, and the beginning of arguments.
linusnext··on I am no longer able to use Google with Lynx
Yeah, jwz.
linusnext··on I am no longer able to use Google with Lynx
From JWZ.org

Greetings, Lynx users. There is a reason this page doesn't use ALT tags on the images. The reason is that the bozos responsible for both MSIE and Netscape Confusicator 4.0 decided that they would display the ALT tags of images every time you move the mouse over them -- even if the images are loaded, and even if they are not links. The ALT attribute to the IMG tag is supposed to be used instead of the image, not in addition to the image.

This looks absolutely terrible, so I don't use ALT tags any more in self-defense.

If they wanted to implemented tooltips, they should have used the TITLE attribute to the A tag. That's in the HTML 1.2 spec and everything.

I had to decide between making this page look good for the vast majority of viewers, or making it be readable by the miniscule minority of you stuck in the 70s. Those of you in the retro contingent lost. Sorry.

linusnext··on Trends in the San Francisco (mostly dog?) poop crisis
We call it "culture". Public restrooms don't help, people do it despite those, and often near them. We've had people come in during a change window late at night, and go right outside our office door. The custodian said he passed the person on their way out, and had to clean it up. Then there is that moment you realized someone tracked some into your office after walking to get lunch. It's very offsetting.

I've never seen so many people who feed their dogs corn.
linusnext··on Jimmy Wales has quietly launched a Facebook rival
Why is it every answer to this solved problem involves someone new playing go between in social networks? "Come to my alternative to X, where instead of X-corp handling all your data, Y-corp will!" The internet was not suppose to be like this...

I've been using this for over a year on multiple phones. The amount of negative feedback here based on zero experience reads like corporate fud.
linusnext··on SF residents buy boulders, place them on sidewalk to thwart homeless tents
Been here ten years, and cycling to work is a nightmare. Between every shop owner spraying down the sidewalk with a chemical bath into the street. Then pigeons bathe in it and take flight when you pass. Ensuring you get wet. There are public restrooms everywhere. It's just nonsense to have to deal with. Almost all the banks have studded areas outside to prevent camping. It's been referred to as "celebration of bum culture."
