lifty··on 670nm red light exposure improved aged mitochondrial function, colour vision
Do you use one of their devices? Can you say anything about the experience?
lifty··on Open Euro LLM: Open LLMs for Transparent AI in Europe
Can you tell me please what you worked on and where I can see the output? I’ve been adjacent to these kind of efforts and the only thing I can say is that I’m highly skeptical of your claims.
lifty··on Qwen2.5-1M: Deploy your own Qwen with context length up to 1M tokens
Thanks for aider! It has become an integral part of my workflow. Looking forward to try DeepSeek in architect mode with Sonnet as the driver. Curious if it will be a noticeable improvement as compared to using Sonnet by itself.
lifty··on No Bitcoin ETFs at Vanguard (2024)
I think they are consistent. They also don’t have an ETF which invests directly in gold.
lifty··on Ross Ulbricht granted a full pardon
I think he’s referring to Singapore. Don’t have any numbers but it does look like it’s working.

Why doesn’t nostr scale?
lifty··on Mise: Dev tools, env vars, task runner
thank you!
lifty··on Bitcoin is over $100k
My comment sounds overly cynical but I fully agree with you, there’s been so much progress in getting people out of poverty world wide. Yes there’s a big gap in wealth but it’s probably the smallest it has ever been on average, and way more people have their basic needs met than ever before.
lifty··on Bitcoin is over $100k
The world is split into two kids of people: the ones that have managed to take advantage of the massive financialization of the world, and the ones who haven’t.
lifty··on Matrix Client Tutorial
It's been a bumpy road but I think now Matrix has gotten to a good place. What's still missing is for the ecosystem to catch up a bit, both on the home server side and on the client side, and implement some of the new usability improvements brought by sliding sync and the rust sdk. Looking forward to see it happen!
lifty··on Trump wins presidency for second time
It sounds to me that this is crass exaggeration and one of the many reasons why there is such a big divide between supporters of both factions. The whole exaggerated narrative and associations to nazism is definitely off putting.
lifty··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Did Trump say that he will "deport all brown people"? Or that he will do a "full ethnic cleansing"?
lifty··on Asterinas: OS kernel written in Rust and providing Linux-compatible ABI
Can you give more details about it being used in Android? I thought they started using it in some small devices like nest but haven’t heard anything about Android
lifty··on The phone ban has had a big impact on school work
Sure, but the quick dopamine fix that you can get from scrolling TikTok or Twitter is way more corrosive than reading long form content in a library.
lifty··on Linus Torvalds muses about maintainer gray hairs and the next 'King of Linux'
Really curious, what ideology did the defunded African Pycons fail to embrace?
lifty··on OpenAI's $150B valuation hinges on upending corporate structure, sources
You won’t necessarily notice it as much in end user application. But I already see good adoption for knowledge workers and the next step is in process automation through agentic workflows. Most likely the result will be in the form of efficiency gains, improved profits and worse customer service.
lifty··on Show HN: Meet.hn – Meet the Hacker News community in your city
You have to add the link to your bio. It’s a way for the app to verify that you want to be added to the map
lifty··on Linus Torvalds talks AI, Rust, & why Linux is the only thing that matters
There is Redox but adoption and traction is minimal. But these things take time so maybe it will become popular in the future.
lifty··on Predicting the Future of Distributed Systems
Not disagreeing with you there; technology lingers for many years. But in terms of market share and mind share, configuration management has shrank in dominance and I suspect it will continue to do so.
lifty··on Predicting the Future of Distributed Systems
I remember seeing your presentation many years ago, at Fosdem. Very cool project and if I would have to manage classic OS deployments I would definitely give mgmt a try. That being said, I think the world is moving to more immutable systems similar to how Talos works (https://talos.dev).
lifty··on Russ Cox is stepping down as the Go tech lead
In my enterprise neck of the woods Go is steadily taking over backend development.
lifty··on Coinbase awarded a $500k bug bounty
I think the OP was obvious. To make money.
lifty··on Our audit of Homebrew
Don’t you have to disable SIP to use nix on macOS?
lifty··on Large Enough
Thanks for this suggestion. If anyone has other suggestions for working with large code context windows and changing code workflows, I would love to hear about them.
lifty··on Garage: Open-Source Distributed Object Storage
The EU, but yeah. NLNet are the ones that judged the applications and disbursed the funds.
lifty··on FOSS funding vanishes from EU's 2025 Horizon program plans
You’re right, it’s a mix of both.
lifty··on FOSS funding vanishes from EU's 2025 Horizon program plans
One project that was funded that I can remember is https://stalw.art. It’s a very nice and compact e-mail server. The EU doesn’t take decisions directly about which projects to fund, but instead delegates it to more knowledgeable organizations. One such org is https://www.nlnetlabs.nl
lifty··on Ford spends $3B to expand large truck production in plant previously set for EVs
There will be tariffs both in US and EU for protecting against Chinese EVs, so there's little pressure for them to hurry on the EV roadmap.
lifty··on Against choosing your political allegiances based on who is "pro-crypto"
You were endowed with power in order to pursue a noble goal. But it was the power you sought that allowed you to do that. I think he’s definition is correct.
