we're never had more effective 'circensis' (Tiktok, video-games, etc.)
the 'panem' part? yeah, that might be a problem, given (further) inflation

Hmm, usually that might be a pretty good indicator that the thing ain't great, mate.
Since we're on HN, I expect a rationalist to tell us why we're so, so wrong?
There appears to be no formidable organized resistance against the recent decades of surveillance boom.
With tech and many tech employees actively accelerating surveillance.
Horrible? yes. And extremely unlikely to be rolled back anytime soon. (Disagree? I'd love to believe you are right!)
Have found that homes and developments in line with https://www.patternlanguage.com/ are more my cup of tea, at least.
every now and then, old spy tech ain't that far from the public state of the art:

(And if the answer is "essentially none", then when is Youtube going to be broken up?)
(Anyone hear read _We_?)
Even a site that displays 'just' recent weather specifics (sans how the forecast was) would be quite helpful.
e.g., the hourly precipitation for the last week or month.
Am NOT talking about generalized monthly climate data, fwiw.
Anyone?
Specifically, offering a track similar to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_school
Five Wishes provides a simple form that seems worthwhile (am curious as to anyone who has experience with how the 5 wishes document is handled/honored irl)
In defense of those who may sincerely disagree, they may frequent higher quality retail than the bulk of U.S. shoppers.
why are there are a great many democratic nations with (many) more than two parties, even with new parties arising and old parties diminishing. (I have firsthand experience with some of them. I highly recommend the experience.)
Is it wrong to 'intuit' that those nations may have a more vibrant democracy than a system of two parties that are both beholden to corporate capture?
Of course I will not be surprised at how asking this on HN will affect the scrip - oops I meant to say karma of course! - of such an inquirer as myself.
There seems to be an overabundance of sci-fi that is hyperoptimistic with regard to tech advances. The 2nd law of thermodynamics is not understood by most, or waved away as 'overcome thru future science'.
fwiw, here's a few works I've found to be less the above:
book: Kim Stanley Robinson's _Aurora_
short stories: Damon Knight's _Stranger Station_ Larry Nivens' _Inconstant Moon
So, middle-ranked samurai were also commoners?

Those who disagree about this particular topic obviously deserve whatever they get here. That's why ad hominem rules do not apply to them, and there is no need to be civil when replying to Russian trolls such as them!!
If astroturfing were happening, it would show up as most anyone critical of the astroturf comments being downvoted and/or flagged into grey oblivion, while the astroturf brigade would present as an unusually large number of comments that all agree with each other.
Anyway, I have been keeping track for a small study I a doing on information warfare, and look forward to presenting my research on this. Am still gathering screenshots and other data. So far, I am in awe at the deep thinking and high level of civil discourse on display here. I really like that folks here show respect even to those who disagree.
Regarding political posts since inauguration, can you explain this, because I am flumoxed:
- on the one hand, there's been a huge surge in clamoring about posts critical of the new administration being flagged
- on the other hand, when such posts have not been flagged, they have consistently and overwhelmingly been dominated by one-sided comments critical of the new administration, while the vast majority of counterargument comments become greyed out, and quite quickly.
- a large portion of that one-sided piling on shows utter disregard for the HN guidelines, esp.:
"Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine. Edit out swipes."
I grew up in East Germany, fwiw. The things I have pointed out here remind me more of the bad old days there than the spirit of independent inquiry, individualism and fairness that I associate with the best of America.
And yet so many claim all we need is moooore housing.
I would love to see quality of life become more of a ubiquitous focus and feature of what is built.
so yeah, when will ethics > money?
At the local elementary school, we are told the kids are being kept safer now thanks to being tracked by AI cameras.
Some parents, maybe especially those with insight into tech fact vs. tech marketing, may have reservations about "tutors" whose services (perhaps for free) come with the stipulation that they are free to record every bit of data about your kid and do with it as they please.
The're being silly, right? Because?
As everyone on HN knows: software is super safe, and the entities/corps controlling it, so, so benign. Data doubly so -- hacks basically never happen, am I right? No one cares about your kid?
Or?
putting up a search engine without providing even a hint of info about who is behind it... ..does not inspire trust
