lfnoise··on Interchange in Houston is the same size as an entire city center in Italy
I grew up in Alief too, back when you had to drive past miles of farm fields to get there. We moved there because my dad, a pilot, flew out of Andrau Airpark. (Also, seeing your post history, I am a friend of Roger Linn.)
lfnoise··on The mysterious life of birds who never come down
..and for months in the freezer, apparently.
lfnoise··on When Hubble stared at nothing for 100 hours (2015)
My pet theory is that the universe isn't expanding. Rather, all the objects in the universe are shrinking. If your ruler is shrinking then it looks like space is expanding. /:-)

lfnoise··on The Battle of Helm’s Deep, Part V: Ladders Are Chaos
"The slits are wider facing outward to allow a wider range of firing angles and narrow on the inside to protect the archers." That's exactly the opposite of any castle I've ever seen. That would funnel arrows into the castle. See "Arrowslit" in Wikipedia: "The interior walls behind an arrow loop are often cut away at an oblique angle so that the archer has a wide field of view and field of fire."
lfnoise··on An analysis of the Lego City deep space rocket
Choosing the Orion capsule as a reference seems unnecessarily large. The Gemini capsule had crew 2, and was 3,851 kg.
lfnoise··on GDC 2020 has been postponed
Where did you get Mountain View? I watched the press conference. They wouldn't name which city in Santa Clara County when asked.
lfnoise··on Four common mistakes in audio development (2016)
Agreed. You really must not. No sane developer would do it. Unfortunately, there are some insane developers.
lfnoise··on Four common mistakes in audio development (2016)
I had someone on the Swift compiler team tell me unequivocally that they make no real time guarantees. Unless you can point to somewhere in the language documentation that the runtime is guaranteed not to ever do X, then I would not assume that you could. (me: former Apple CoreAudio engineer)
lfnoise··on The AI That's Too Dangerous to Release
Best sentence in the article: "It also happens to be trained on a large chunk of Reddit, since the author decided that this was undeniably the perfect location to obtain high quality, impeccable prose."
lfnoise··on Which countries are on the right track, according to their citizens
Chart unreadable for red/green color blind.
lfnoise··on Why Sleep Apnea Patients Rely on a CPAP Machine Hacker
In my experience, sleep apnea treatment in the US is a racket. The sleep center tried to maximize the number of office visits they could bill before prescribing treatment and the insurance tried to delay approvals and minimize the cost and quality of equipment they would provide. Meanwhile, patient suffers. After 5 months of repeated visits, when another 6 weeks was tacked on, I went out on my own and got the best machine.

people who use red and green on charts can go to hell.
lfnoise··on Comcast accused of cutting competitor’s wires to put it out of business
The Comcast installer ripped out the AT&T lines and the lines to my aerial antenna along the side of my house when he installed cable. At a previous house I rented, the Comcast guy cut the AT&T line from the pole and left it hanging two feet off the ground from a branch in a tree. Comcast didn't want to come out to fix it because it wasn't their wire.
lfnoise··on Alien star system buzzed the Sun
20 light years per 70000 years in miles per hour = 191604.751 miles per hour, according to google
lfnoise··on J for C Programmers
Alan Perlis on APL:

"What attracted me, then, to APL was a feeling that perhaps through APL one might begin to acquire some of the dimensions in programming that we revere in natural language — some of the pleasures of composition; of saying things elegantly; of being brief, poetic, artistic, that makes our natural languages so precious to us."
