letier··on DJ Turntables: Buying Guide by Vekked (2016)
I'm on the other side, only having a pair of MK7 here. They seem to be super stable, but I guess only time will tell if they also last for that long.
letier··on DJ Turntables: Buying Guide by Vekked (2016)
The MK7s are supposedly (e.g. the bottom of the player - didn't verify myself) built from slightly cheaper materials than the MK2. On the other hand they're new and they have a very solid build. Also they have proper cabling and ports on the player, which some older 1200s were lacking. I got two of them and really like them.

That one should be a Super OEM and therefore similar to the others.

letier··on Bitcoin’s reliance on stablecoins harks back to the Wild West of finance
Technically still not 60%, but thank you for pointing this out! I was not aware of this.

If i interpret this correctly, this could lead to a very high spike in interest for dai lenders on other collateral currencies, in case the usdc collateral goes bad.

letier··on Bitcoin’s reliance on stablecoins harks back to the Wild West of finance
This suggests only 5% being backed by usdc: https://daistats.com/#/collateral
letier··on Voltswagen of America
You're correct. Mistake on my side.
letier··on Voltswagen of America
.com for example was only reserved today and is using a domain parking service. Things like this would have been prepared if it was a serious rebranding.
letier··on Voltswagen of America
Looking at the DNS records it's definitely a joke.

It might be that neither is the correct answer.

letier··on Unexpected detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in the prepandemic period in Italy
I have trouble parsing these sentences correctly. Are they saying 14% of the samples from September 2019 tested positive for antibodies?
letier··on The joys of owning an ‘OG’ email account
I have one like this. It’s horrible. I constantly get invitations to some other people’s kids birthday parties. Invitations to random peoples weddings. Drafts for real estate sale contracts. Even Microsoft’s HR sent me onboarding details by accident. I also get some official looking emails by some US administrative institutions. The list could be continued...

The worst thing is that people continue to accidentally sending these mails for me, even if i ask them to stop.

letier··on Berlin approves 5-year rent freeze
True actually, after some quick research. There is only roughly 18000 empty apartments.

I guess the number in the blog doesn't include app usage.
letier··on Controlling a Quadcopter with Hand Gestures
Might be relevant for some of you.

Former colleagues of mine were experimenting with leap motion control for drones. They also had other experiments with the holidays lens and Oculus rift. I'm not sure whether they brought it together.

letier··on Fake news of a fatal car crash wiped out $4B in ethereum’s market value
I'd argue that bitcoin is still kind of a gateway currency for crypto in many countries. If you want to buy/sell crypto, you have to go through bitcoin.

With the crypto market being highly volatile and ethereum having seen such a huge gain this year i don't see much unusual with it going down a "bit".

letier··on Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier – BWV 731 [video]
I know I'm slowly going off topic here. :)

But check out the Glenn Gould version, as well.

Also Jacques Loussier has some nice Bach interpretations.

letier··on Google’s AI Invents Sounds Humans Have Never Heard Before
I'm asking myself if a synth is just a boring application for a model like this. But maybe it would be possible to implement a new kind of efficient sound compression algorithm.

Just checked, your repo seems to be private. (or I'm a bit blind :))

Here is the link to what I hacked back then: https://github.com/letier/boombox

I'm planning on doing a complete rewrite, when I finally find the time. This thing was build pretty quickly.

letier··on Show HN: DJ in the browser
Exactly, this one. :)

I wanted to try it with another transformation to see if it can achieve better results.

There was a nice article on the beatport tech blog. I didn't manage to find it when I searched yesterday. Basically what they suggested was applying a low pass filter to isolate the base drums, then count the most common intervals between peaks (basically some kind of transformation) and then reconstruct the BPM from there by applying a range from 80-160 or similar. Hope this gives you a rough idea.

I implemented and tested it and it worked quite well with electronic music.

letier··on Show HN: DJ in the browser
Very cool! I hacked the exact same thing a while ago. Also with soundcloud integration (and some filters and stuff). I'll take a peek at the code when i get to my computer in the next days. Maybe there is something where i could contribute.
