lenwood··on Tesla ranks last on influential JD Power quality survey
Fair point. This does illustrate why someone might find it surprising that Dodge is outranking Toyota in a measure of quality though.
lenwood··on Tesla ranks last on influential JD Power quality survey
According to JD Power [1], Lexus is the most dependable 2019 brand. Dodge is the most improved, but its still lower in the list. And according to Consumer Reports study on 2020 models [2] Lexus is the most reliable brand but Dodge is in the top 10. The CR results are behind a paywall so here's a USA Today article covering the study [3].

Edit: Toyota does appear higher than Dodge in both studies.

lenwood··on Safari now blocks Google Analytics on sites, new Privacy Report feature shows
There are a few threads in Twitter where people are discussing the validity of this article's claim. Here are the two most prominent (referenced in the article) [1], [2].

lenwood··on Safari now blocks Google Analytics on sites, new Privacy Report feature shows
Strictly speaking, GA is always 3rd party (it would only be 1st party if/when its used to measure google-analytics.com which is not a user-facing domain). For measuring any other website, its 3rd party.

I believe that this would limit GA's ability to store data in cookies on my system (user or session-based attributes). GA could still create unique identifiers based on my user or session-based attributes and store those IDs on their own servers, then call them back up when I revisit the site.

I'm still coming up to speed on this, maybe someone with more experience could correct or clarify my statements.

lenwood··on Text-Only Websites
I've been thinking of migrating my blog back to text only. When I was a student I kept a "blog" as a list of HTML files that I manually updated. I've been using Wordpress for the past ~15 years and am growing weary of having to keep up with plugin, theme or CMS updates. My blog is not worth this much effort to maintain, I just want a place to share essays and occasional photos. I need time to make the switch, but the simplicity of text only format is attractive.
lenwood··on Safari now blocks Google Analytics on sites, new Privacy Report feature shows
I've done a bit more reading. This is not as dramatic as it seems. First party GA is not blocked. Access to 3rd party storage may be blocked, but this would not prevent web interactions from being visible to GA.
lenwood··on Apple Safari to Block Google Analytics from Collecting Data
Apple’s Safari browser will reportedly block Google Analytics from tracking users and collecting data about their web browsing activity.
lenwood··on Colin Kaepernick joins Medium board of directors
I find it somewhat ironic that the article is not on Medium. It's listed there as well [1], but the stories I've seen shared are published elsewhere.

lenwood··on Boston Dynamics shop: Spot Explorer
Well it depends on what rmason plans to do with it.
lenwood··on DuckDuckGo was down
I tried to find one. The closest I came is their Traffic dashboard [1], which is updated daily. I also checked their Twitter account [2] but no mention of problems yet.

lenwood··on Twitter hides Donald Trump tweet for “glorifying violence”
Trump seems to think Twitter is a public service within his domain, rather than a private company with its own agenda & governance. I'm glad Twitter is responding to him, I respect them for the position they're taking.

In addition to his executive order [1], Trump has threatened to delete his Twitter account [2].

lenwood··on DuckDuckGo Billboards
I understand why they have billboards. I'm not sure I get why they have this billboard map up, other than showing that they could.

Tangentially related, DuckDuckGo is also sponsoring NPR programming. I've heard their snippet on All Things Considered a couple of times recently.

lenwood··on AdTech Sucks: This Time It's Personal IDs
I agree with the sentiment but how? Google & Facebook are in a powerful position, and its a complex issue that the general population (let alone politicians) don't fully understand. The author acknowledges that GDPR is fine, but doesn't address the underlying issue.
