lenkite··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
organic farms with best-practice are sustainable with lower yields and do not cause soil degradation or desertification. Study attached in reply to other comment.
lenkite··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
No, it is most certainly not indefinitely - "corpo agriculture" only yields more for a limited period of time before land degradation and desertification comes into play. I hesitate to call it "modern agriculture" since that is a moving target.

I am not asking for 0 children - that is silly. I just gave a target number for sustainable, high-quality of life in one nation which currently has a very stressed population due to limited resources, ongoing-desertification, exhausted mineral resources and a water crisis. Obviously we should not stop having kids tomorrow. But neither should we subscribe to the birth-rate cliff paranoia where corpo billionaires want the birth rate to increase so they always have access to a desperate population that they can treat as effective slave labour.

> This is deeply unsupported by the evidence I’ve seen.

What ? This is well-supported unless you have been sadly influenced by the brainwashing of corrupt American Agricorpos - who btw do a terrific job of FUD & misinformation. I even learned about the benefits of organic farming in high-school biology class.

"organic farming generally had higher soil organic matter, lower nutrient losses per hectare, lower energy requirements and generally better biodiversity outcomes"

Actually, there are dozens of papers. The research is extremely supported for sustainable agriculture with the corresponding caveat of lower yields like I mentioned. No idea how you got "deeply unsupported".

No, Mumbai is significantly more densely populated than Paris when looking at the entire urban scale and not just a few areas of Paris. This is easily fact-checked.

I mean Mumbai's population is 10x Paris population, so this should be obvious.

Glad you asked!

India has roughly ~18% of humanity but only about 4% of global freshwater resources, and agriculture consumes roughly 80–90% of India's water. The World Bank estimates that around 600 million Indians already face water stress. (The number is actually higher in many estimates)

https://www.worldbank.org/en/brief/2026/03/19/how-india-is-a...

There is also substantial pressure on land. Government data report about 97.85 million hectares, or ~30% of India's geographical area, as affected by land degradation/desertification.

https://www.pib.gov.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?lang=2&reg=...

If you want long-term, sustainable agriculture, we need to heavily move to organic farming. This yields ~30% less food produce. I forgot the popular paper on this - can dig it up.

India has also exhausted its mineral reserves. This is not fully our fault. We were fully strip mined and utterly bankrupted by the British in WW2. https://www.pib.gov.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?lang=2&reg=...

(IMHO that is the real reason why we got independence - the Brits didn't want to keep holding to a distressed asset and immediately liquidated. Look at Bengal famine of 1943)

We are having heavy import dependency on minerals - a ridiculous 80%!!! dependency, which is causing significant problems in our trade/current-account deficit.

So, if we want maximum ecological comfort, and long-term, prosperous standard of living, we need a significantly reduced population. You can get the number by just halving our population simply taking into account high-availability to water and then reduce further for sustainable agriculture and sustainable mineral consumption.

> There are 1.2 billion Indians.

Incorrect. It is 1.48 billion and expected to hit 1.7+ billion in next three decades in a nation that is <1/3rd size of the USA. Birth rate collapse cannot come soon enough.

lenkite··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
We are 1.48 billion people (and growing) in a nation that is 1/3rd the size of the US. Expected to reach 1.7+ billion in another 20-30 years - which will increase desperation considerably.

The birth rate falling is a VERY good thing. India cannot really support more than 300-400 million people with a high quality of life with its geographic size and exhausted resources. Life becomes cheaper than disposable toilet paper otherwise.

lenkite··on Go Concurrency Distilled
Superior in ergonomics - launching several async tasks and combining their results via futures is is much easier compared in Java compared to to Go's low-level, primitive way of doing things. No need to explicitly create channels and wait on them. Go doesn't expose Go-routines as a type and hence you are brow-beaten into laboriously using channels even when there is no real need to do so. I guess this could be all sorted out if the Go stdlib offered some convenient structured concurrency packges.
lenkite··on Go Concurrency Distilled
Erlang/Elxir would be more popular if it compiled to native. BEAM VM is not that performant and programs also take more memory compared to Go.

US removed the choke of colonialism 250 years ago and ignored patents freely until well into the 20th century. And even today, a foreign patent isn't automatically enforceable in America.

India had to fight extremely hard in USPTO to stop Indian turmeric from being patented. Perhaps you folks should go into Chinese offices and fight for years to be equitable.

lenkite··on Flock is rolling out a voluntary severance program
You do know that there were over a dozen social media networks that facebook bought over and effectively extinguished or merged into their behemoth right ? They deliberately ensured that choices were extremely limited. Any "alternative" that got popular and not under control of another behemoth was effectively taken over or killed. So your "use an alternative" logic just does not compute.

Its more: "Do as we say, not as we do". Lots of traditional techniques were appropriated and patented by the West and your nation deliberately ignored patents during its industrialization phase. But when the East that threw off the shackles of colonialism does so, oh my god, it is theft.

lenkite··on Why building a Rust LSP is hard
I meant the language server builds the normalized, lossless AST and gives it to the editor. Changes in the AST can be provided as events/diffs to the editor. The normalized, source-mapped AST is effectively the stable language protocol. (Possibly given in a columnar, database form via Apache Arrow, but thats impl specific). Was discussing alternative architectures with a collague since even the best language servers really suck on large projects.
lenkite··on Sherline Tools Is Going Out of Business
But isn't this completely fine ? The US became an industrial powerhouse by doing the same. Even barred foreign inventors from obtaining parents in the US. The U.S. Patent Act of 1793 was explicitly structured to favor domestic industrial growth at the expense of foreign inventors. Provided total legal immunity within the U.S. for commercializing pirated ideas. Only when the US became #1, did international protection of its patents became a priority.

China merely followed the American approach towards industrial success.

lenkite··on Why building a Rust LSP is hard
Wouldn't a normalized protocol based on AST vocabulary and tree operations make more sense ?
lenkite··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Many were out of print or were used copies, so they weren't books you could simply order new from a publisher. They are out of print. Anthropic deliberately sourced large quantities through used-book sellers such as Better World Books and World of Books and destroyed the physical copies after scanning them.

If you find this a "breathless emotional take", then I don't even know what to say. Nothing will meet your "evidence" criteria to dislodge your fervent fawning and support for destruction carried out by AI corporations.

lenkite··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Evidence ? Good lord, how about the US district court of justice ? Anthropic physically destroyed millions of books after scanning them - are you really, truly questioning that ?

Here is what was signed by Judge Alsup at https://docs.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/califo...

> Anthropic spent many millions of dollars to purchase MILLIONS of print books, often in used condition. Then, its service providers stripped the books from their bindings, cut their pages to size, and scanned the books into digital form — discarding the paper originals.

Dismissing the above as "dead inventory" is atrocious reasoning. The more obscure/low-circulation books are arguably MORE valuable as training material because they contain information that is less likely to be duplicated across the ordinary web.

And 404 Media's reporting wasn't merely based on a bookseller's terminology of your "dead inventory". There are now unsealed Anthropic internal documents describing Project Panama as an effort to "destructively scan all the books in the world"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/podcasts/post-reports/the-que...

lenkite··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
The scale is completely different. It is like comparing a tiny ant to a Star Devouring Shoggoth. Anthropic destroyed millions of books in hardly any time. They are destroying the foundations of civilization

I meant the strikes while the Minsk ceasefire was in effect - one that was admitted to by Merkel to merely buy time for Ukraine's arms build-up into the 3rd largest European military. And then used effectively to shell and kill Russian civilians including children. Not a SINGLE word in the Western media. The dollar is most certainly backed by military of the Corporate States. This is eminently observable to the rest of the world, who tend to get "regime changed" when the talk comes about not using the USD.

The leaked, then, declassified emails about Gaddafi and how his "Gold Dinar" was considered a threat really opens your eyes on why the Corporate States maintains a very big stick to hit anyone they don't like in the world and most especially nations who were foolish enough to disarm, stupidly trusting the Corporate States.

>These kind of monitoring exercises are common amongst both Russians and Americans when operating near each other or their territorial waters.

Denmark shares operational intelligence, reconnaissance data, and positional tracking regarding Russian naval assets. It would be ridiculous stupidity to permit a NATO nation aircraft that explicitly admitted it was performing reconnaissance on your military vessel to come close and obtain target data sent to Ukraine to sink your ship. Esp after it ignored radio warnings.

> Russia has also been committing acts of sabotage around the world, but more specifically has been cutting undersea communication cables

Do note that the later investigations did not establish Russian responsibility and investigators found no evidence of Russian sabotage. Refer to WSJ & Reuters articles on this. Can you point me to a specific incident in which Russian sabotage was established ?
