lenkite··on Teacher Arrested for Clapping in Support of Anti-Data Center Activists
Clapping 5 times after the first speaker has finished talking and the next speaker is yet to begin is not "disruptive".

Just about Anything can be considered "disruptive" by that definition. What is next ? Get someone arrested since they made a face or frowned at your speech ? Or sneezed or coughed ? Why even bother with an audience then ?

lenkite··on Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK
Our company has a strict gift giving and no-bribes policy. Everyone needs to sign that they have read it. It is even more extensive for the sales/procurement teams.
lenkite··on US strikes $1.2B deal to pay German firm to halt offshore wind projects
Utterly Insane. I mean the saying "Truth is stranger than fiction" is proven true by this US administration again, again and again. If you put this as a plot point in a novel, you would get a 1-star rating with readers complaining about lack of realism.
lenkite··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
> An undersold embarrassment of this fiasco is the Marine Corps has 10 (ten!) amphibious assault carriers that are more capable than most nations' flagships

These Marine amphibious assault carriers are highly vulnerable to swarm tactics by fast Iranian assault boats. Iran has a few thousand of them which can be deployed fast.

You need a full strike group to support the assault. And that means those ships are in range of Iranian mass-drone strikes and missiles. And Iran has a lot of hidden missile cities that they are yet to reveal.

There is no way to achieve territorial supremacy without tens of thousands of casualties. It will make Vietnam look like a papercut.

lenkite··on AI fuels more than half of cybercrime in Africa as scams surge – Interpol
Chinese criminal syndicates have even begun to conduct lure and abduct Indians into scamming centres. They do this by posting fraudulent online job ads leading Indians to clandestine compounds in the golden triangle nations. And then confiscate passports after they arrive, restrain them and then enslave them using threats of physical torture, electric shocks, and isolation cells.

Why do they even bother with India ? Easy manpower and one of the world's largest English speaking nations.

lenkite··on US Military asks troops for 'creative and unconventional' ideas to punish Iran
You can say that about most US allies in the middle-east. I don't see the US waging war on them.
lenkite··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
My opinion is that good old UIKit based on MVC (Model-View-Controller) is simply excellent for building scalable, complex and performant UI's in traditional, compiled languages. The declarative, state-driven UI works wonderfully on the small keynote-demo scale but needs a specialized language to support it on the large scale. Otherwise you waste a LOT of time debugging.

And Swift is simply just not that language. Apple should have just invented a specialized UI DSL to support SwiftUI. And continued to support good old MVC first-class. Explicit Constraints, Lifecycle Clarity and Programmable Control make UIKit apps easier to debug and fix.

SwiftUI should cleanly extracted out its reactive framework as a standalone, public framework for non-UI or decoupled use-cases. That would have helped in fixing a lot of issues.

lenkite··on SQLite Critical CVEs or LLM Slop?
Internet discussion != real-world professional fakery
lenkite··on Bonsai: Janestreet's UI Library
The value proposition about this web framework over things like React, Phoenix, etc is that it uses incremental computing right ? Using Jane Street's incremental computing library. I see it being used at https://github.com/janestreet/bonsai/blob/f31661450eb133fe89...
lenkite··on The House of Ellison Is on the Brink
Larri Ellisauron is too big to fail. He will be bailed out. Just need to call Trump and offer (tax-free) donations to the 2028 Trump campaign.
lenkite··on YC founder asks desperate job seekers to tattoo themselves for an interview
You are then dangerously obsolete. New branding means old flesh thrown to bio-degradable trash can and new flesh for the nexgen corpo needles.
lenkite··on Flint: A Visualization Language for the AI Era
I would love a CSS type system for humans. The language never stays in my brain for more than 2 weeks and then I have to re-learn it from scratch.

lenkite··on Upper stage impacting the moon on 2026 August 5
Never understood why we need to add this ridiculous tag for mobile. CSS/HTML are responsive by default.

lenkite··on Iran Has Figured Out How to Overwhelm U.S. Air Defenses
Peace Deals are so that Barron Trump can buy low and then sell high when Trump declares War again. He will soon be the youngest "self-made" billionaire.
lenkite··on A Discord Alternative – Echoed
All the people saying AI makes less mistakes than humans are just completely wrong. That has NOT been my experience in the last year and half after reviewing ~100 AI-assisted PRs. Humans made LESS mistakes when they took direct responsibility. (Some developers don't make any mistakes) Also, humans don't generally tend to repeat the same mistakes again and again.

General code quality has gone to shit and problems are discovered far too late.

lenkite··on Chip stocks slide in US and Asia as AI jitters rattle investors
The BIGGEST mistake of capitalism is the blank check given to acquisitions and mergers. Its like permitting a ravenous organism that grows by consuming others and pretending that the gigantic mutated Jupiter-sized Shoggoth with a billion devouring tentacles is still the same species as the cute friendly hamster-sized blob that it started out as.
lenkite··on Israel Is Paying Millions to Train AI Chatbots How to Talk About Gaza
They have been doing amazing. Any other nation which did this would have been sanctioned to death. The last several years have 100% convinced me that facts don't matter in geopolitics - only propaganda and narrative matter. In fact, facts matter least of all and perception is everything.
lenkite··on I'm 38 and I Can't Support Myself Anymore

What happens when labour-based production is fully replaced by automated factories? Then ?

lenkite··on Steel Bank Common Lisp version 2.6.7
For non-LISP languages on k8s, you have Tilt (https://tilt.dev/) or Skaffold (https://skaffold.dev/) nowadays to support continuous development.
lenkite··on Our position on open-weights models
I am sorry but this is nonsense. People already have access on how to make explosives. There are academic textbooks and professional reference manuals that cover the science, synthesis, and industrial manufacturing of explosive materials.

Information != physical medium.

lenkite··on Our position on open-weights models
Until models become sentient, it requires a human to execute dangerous activities. Nations already have laws regarding what a human can and cannot do. Let us stick to that.
lenkite··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
Our production incidents have dramatically increased over last 2 years after management pushed AI. In 2023, we never failed our SLA. Now, we continuously keep failing it due to some stupid outage. There was no real change in architecture or strategy - only the adoption of AI.

There have already been several high-profile AI-root-cause incidents at many companies this year. I guess we can look forward to even more deterioration in the next 2 years.

lenkite··on Patreon laying off 20% of staff
Patreon lost >90% of customers from India and a few other Asian nations since they did not implement credit card 2FA nor implement support for native payment gateways. Had to drop a dozen patreon subscriptions and found several hundreds online were complaining about the same thing. Several creators were puzzled why they had a sudden drop without any feedback. Many folks just shrugged and silently moved onto other mechanisms.
lenkite··on Escape IntelliJ: Scala and Kotlin LSPs on Emacs Eglot
Sorry, but gopls doesn't even support moving files/packages and updating references properly - which is basic, tablestakes, "everyday" feature supported out of the box by Goland.

I can list 2 dozen other things that Gopls doesn't support but Goland does.

lenkite··on Protecting our FLOSS commons from LLMs
US Supreme Court has yet to make any explicit ruling though. It The EU top court (CJEU) is currently hearing arguments. I guess we will know in 2027-28 globally.

lenkite··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
Doesn't this merely mean that states will do the job of investment ?
lenkite··on When can a power company take your land for data center infrastructure?
ALL High-tech Infra that leverages "eminent domain" SHOULD be held in the name of the nation state for public good not by the billionaire or his corpo. All these private data centers that leverage eminent domain to grab land should be property of the state and only temporarily leased to the corpo.
