leiaru13··on Michelangelo's first painting, created when he was 12 or 13
Interesting if true. This painting seems like it's largely in the style of Northern Renaissance painters and has been considered to be the work of Martin Schongauer. Allegedly, he was initially trained as an engraver and made 100+ prints, so it is possible that the painting got misattributed due to the original print: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b7/Sc...
leiaru13··on Nothing: Simply Do Nothing
Sensory deprivation tanks are also great for this. No distractions or to-do's, just you and your thoughts for an hour.
leiaru13··on I've built my first successful side project, and I hate it
I've heard that people have had success selling side projects with https://acquire.com (haven't used it myself, though) – have you looked into it?
leiaru13··on The Good Soldier Švejk (2018)
A favorite of both my dad and I. I've only read it twice -- once as a teenager and once as a college junior -- and loved it both times, while he rereads it every so often. As my dad would say, it's the type of book that you can read many times and discover something new every time.
leiaru13··on The best way to get unstuck
This article definitely resonates. I've found that the best cure to inertia is to start doing things, even if they seem completely unrelated to my work or end goal. Just incorporating simple habits like exercise into my daily routine help put me in the right mindset and generate the sense of momentum.
leiaru13··on Balkan genomes trace the rise/fall of Roman Empire's frontier, migrations
The amount of division in the Balkans -- especially in the last 20-30 years -- has never made much sense to me, given how close culturally and ethnically most of the population is. This only confirms that the fragmentation of the region is driven more from the creation of 'national myths' than on genetic differences between different groups of people.
