legolas2412··on Boston public schools suspend advanced learning classes
You are mostly making my point. My second point was classism, which was saying precisely what you are saying.

I was replying to someone who was arguing that everything was solely racism. That doesn't make sense to me. In fact, you argue that white women have not been doing a fair job teaching black men. But why are Asian americans excelling in school then? I don't think it's just racism to blame.

> Fighting racism against blacks is about a debt that is owed and has never been paid

And that's one bad argument. Reparations? Look, I'm from India and india was for a long time ruled by the british, and an even longer time ruled by muslim rulers who became the elite in india. So, if one tells me that britain needs to return the stolen 45 trillion (yup somebody estimated this bullshit number), or that muslims need to pay reparations, I'm pretty sure they would be called racist nationalists.

The law should only make sure that the people right now have equal opportunities for them, regardless of their history, skin color, ethnicity, and even wealth. Everything else is a illiberal idea that can only make things worse

First, there may be biological differences. Asians tend to be shorter, while africans tend to be stronger. Similarly men tend to be taller.

Second, the ism may be classism. Poor students with less access to education might perform worse. Classifying classism as racism and solving it that may be wrong.

Third, the ism may be cultural too. If asian parents drive their kids harder by their parenting technique, that's not racism either.

It does not help to call all differences as only racism. The truth is differences are caused by a variety of reasons, of which racism is one.

legolas2412··on Amsterdam displaces London as Europe's top stocks centre after Brexit
I have no stake in this fight, but.. from popular media, and my social bubble, the message seemed the exact opposite. It felt like the brexit people said that they would be able to survive with the same economic level and the ability to make their own laws and regulations, while everyone else ridiculed them with how britain would not even be able to get food, and would collapse into mayhem.

Just like how they had a cross country summon in 2017, coast to coast drive in 2018, and tesla network "robotaxis" by 2019 already?

It may sound similar to how china or russia control media, or how trump supporters think the liberal media is controlled.
legolas2412··on India protests: Internet cut to hunger-striking farmers in Delhi
And the reason all this happens is because a uniform civil code is unpalatable to muslims. We would be in a better place if we didn't have polygamy and good divorce, custody, alimony laws instead of religious laws.
legolas2412··on India protests: Internet cut to hunger-striking farmers in Delhi
> In India a Muslim woman can choose special marriage act [1], where triple talaq is inapplicable. It’s not for you or majority to decide how that community should live.

I agree with you on general gist but not this. Seriously? You don't think muslim women are oppressed by these medieval age laws and need to be changed? You don't think bringing religion into laws was a horrible idea, and live jihad is just the other side of the picture of triple talaq laws? You can't just hate one side and turn blind to the evils of the other.

legolas2412··on Europe's Vaccine Disaster
> Let's not get into the testing data debate here.

Let's not spread misinformation either. India did enough testing. India's positivity rate was almost always below 10%. Now it's even less than 1%. India has made testing fast, cheap, and easy to access.

Also, it doesn't matter if india has fewer hospital beds, if those beds are empty. Hospitals beds are empty, and our morgues aren't overflowing (like how milan or nyc in March did). It is a free country with open media. Nobody is suppressing covid cases.

There are many reasons it could happen like this. Cross immunity. Younger demographics. Smaller groups (most indians live in rural villages). Diet. Weather. Etc.

It's not strange that delhi and bangalore have more cases. They are also denser cities with more people. It's just like how nyc and Los Angeles have more cases than say indianapolis or santa Cruz.

legolas2412··on Statement of SEC Regarding Recent Market Volatility
The problem is the word inflation vs deflation.

When too much fiat is printed, it decreases its value and is called inflation.

But when assets lose value, it is called deflation.

So, do you call cryptocurrency a fiat currency or a speculative asset? Because falling value will happen, it will be just termed inflation or deflation.

legolas2412··on Apple’s self-driving electric car is at least half a decade away
It would be unethical that Tesla's magical actually full self-driving is only available as a autonomous system, not as driver assistance. You should not compare a modelS driven in favorable weather on favorable roads with younger people to the average car on the average road. You should also not compare a autonomous system with a system with no comparable driver assistance.

Tesla will convince me of driverless cars when a modelS driverless outperforms a modelS with a driver using emergency braking and lane keeping assist.

I think even Bernie was against TPP, not just Trump.

The situation could be similar to the idea that you gave unfair terms to a business partner and felt robbed. So you found other business partners and signed the same terms with them, basically to spite/limit the original business partner. But now you are still being robbed, even faster infact, and by multiple people, and no way of recourse, as you just signed that deal!

The move did not save me money considering the security deposit and moving costs despite the lower rent, infact it cost me 200$. But i got a bigger home in a nicer area. Well worth the 200$ it cost me overall.

Now, that may be the media soundbite, the actual numbers may surprise you.

In 2015, under the obama administration, out of 531k immigrant visas (green cards), only 21k were for employment based categories, with 8600 for investors (visas for sale), and only 11k for EB1,2,3 categories (that is high skilled employees of companies and academics/professors in universities).

In 2019, out of 462k green cards, there were 28k employment visas, with 16k for EB1,2,3 categories.

So, an asian would have a better opportunity to get a green card and subsequently become CEO under the trump administration. Both republcians and democrats want this feature of preventing high skilled immigration.
