legodt··on Micro-Dosing: The Drug Habit Your Boss Is Gonna Love
That is clearly an industrial design student project taken out of context. The sketching is overly academic, the app screens are very much on-trend and designed to reflect as much narrative as possible, and those earpiece devices are clearly keyshot renders. I sincerely hope nobody is falling for this. I mean, look at those overly convenient context shots and storytelling visuals! Or those cheesy cliche poster fonts! The only thing missing is a user storyboard, but I don't doubt the student didn't include them because, well, they did fantastic work with those images of hypothetical end-user chemical charts. Projects of this scope are extremely common (take a gander around online portfolios), I never thought I would see somebody intentionally take one out of context to fool people into some sort of conspiracy theory.

Those voters saw a bigot and didn't let that stop them for voting for him despite what their other reasons may be. That is enough.

I dunno, I've ridden the roads in Plano before. The fact that most roads are multi-lane definitely make things more amicable to biking there since cars can move around cyclists. In denser urban areas (yes, yes, Plano is semi-urban with all its corporate infrastructure) where the lights are denser and the roads have fewer (or one!) lanes it is much more difficult.

Also, more pertinent to Plano, what if you want to replace your car entirely? Grocery stores are still pretty spaced out and you are SoL if you want to get into Dallas proper! The DART is incredibly slow, so that's out, and biking from Plano to a night on the town with your friends is Deep Ellum or Greenville Ave is a tall, dangerous order.

Keep it 214!

I'm definitely willing to wager that half of the country is awful, but that's if you're willing to use voter turnout as a valid sample size to represent the population at large. That's not the point. Racism is bigger than political parties. It's crazy to say that the left doesn't do racism, of course both sides carry that weight! I'm really confused by your comment, I don't know what point you were trying to make beyond trying to absolve yourself of a perceived implication of racism.

Being intolerant of bigots doesn't exactly make you as bad as them...

Parent comment is wrong and overgeneralizing a bit (as others have pointed out, awful people exist everywhere and transcend the bounds of class and geography), but the line of thinking you are getting at that it is hateful to be agressive against perpetuators of evil is somehow equal to their hate is dangerous and incorrect. It isn't fascism when you stomp a fascist.

You're the guy who knew more and filled in the blanks! I am super fascinated by this topic (and an outsider). Do you have any specific examples or situations that you know of this happening? The hypothetical you gave above was awesome and now I'm curious for more.

If you actually read those articles and still believe that, I want you to know that I legitimately find you frightening. This is about a person in a position of authority making a statement that normalizes sexual assault. This isn't video games. There are real victims and a culture that perpetuates this. He didn't grope somebody personally and get away with it, he did it in real life and bragged about it. I don't know how to break this down any further and that you tried to flip this into me normalizing rape culture is disgusting. Maybe you need to learn what rape culture is? Maybe it's time to stop pretending that anti-feminism isn't misogynistic. I hope I'm never near you in the real world because your words indicate a lack of care about actions to my body.

I'm out.

WOAH the XPS 15 comes with a 1050 now? I might pay the huge price premium to get my hands on that (and then some more to turn that USB c port into all the useful ports I'm losing).
legodt··on Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake review: Is the desktop CPU dead?
It's also much more expensive to produce an i7. i7 are near perfect chips and are able to run higher clock rate efficiently and safely while i5s are more "standard" and have their performance clamped down to what they can safely handle. There are less i7 chips rolling off the lines, which increases their price.

Hopefully somebody who knows more about this than me can jump in and fill in the blanks here.

EDIT: I communicated my point poorly and the comments below mine explain this is much clearer terms

legodt··on Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake review: Is the desktop CPU dead?
If you already live the glowing light life and aren't getting out anytime soon (and why would you? It's not like anyone else is selling high quality computer stuff like this), MSI has been putting out fantastic laptops in terms of performance to dollar recently AND they don't skimp on the port selection, something I love about my workstation type laptop. Some of my co-workers brought these in recently and it only furthers my endless disappointment that good hardware can't come in sensible a package.
legodt··on Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake review: Is the desktop CPU dead?
Try buying a laptop for CAD rendering sometime. So many people where I work didn't want to settle for last gen speeds of "workstation" class (think, AMD firepro and Nvidia Quadro cards) and now pay the shame price of rainbow LEDs, red plastic, and gaudy keyboard fonts.

Thanks user persona centered design!

legodt··on Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake review: Is the desktop CPU dead?
Apple makes a damned good mobile chip, but it's still just a mobile chip and it plays by mobile rules. Do you think apple has the expertise to switch to desktop class chip design?
legodt··on Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake review: Is the desktop CPU dead?
I think most consumers feel this way right now (hence the always slowing sales in the PC market) and companies like Intel and AMD are definitely feeling the squeeze. When the farthest you can push the limits of your new chipset are, well, see review above, I can't imagine how stressful it is for them right now.

I'm going to give to the benefit of the doubt and not assume you are intentionally being misogynistic, so here's some light reading to help clear up why what you said perpetuates rape culture and isn't okay.

Hasn't stopped me or you from doing anything. But being upset about this is like being upset and saying "not all men" or "not all white people." It doesn't matter that you don't associate with the nasty parts of how somebody is describing a unit as one. Of course it's going to be overly simplistic and broad and miss a lot of the details. But complaining that you think it is unfair to do so because you're part of that group and aren't what is being critiqued just makes it sound like you want to ignore the bigger issues to protect your ego because part of you is in the group being discussed.

This is about groups of power or privilege, nobody is in danger or under threat because they perpetuate these socially regressive parts of America, so we have to discuss America as its worst elements, even if we ourselves don't think we contribute to them.

Which brings us back to the original comment you took objection too. Why do Americans keep voting for a party that is hostile to marginalized groups? Because the America we live in is okay with this. And, as Americans, it is all of our responsibility to at least accept that this is country we currently live under. Agree with it or not, America's culture of racism, misogyny, and profiteering at the expense of others comes from Americans. You might think you're better than that (and you're probably right), but as a whole Americans have decided that their country is not.

legodt··on House Republicans Vote to Strip Independence from Ethics Office
I'm sorry this struck a chord with you and made you feel like you had to declare "not all Americans." That's great that you feel that way and don't associate with those aspects of American culture, but your individual actions and feelings do not negate the actions of America as a whole. The individual is nothing and their atonement does not rectify the system they are under. Loop me back when the brock turners and racist cops are behind bars or we don't have an admitted sexual predator and xenophobe leading us. Or even when we have functioning social services or a safety net for anyone but the 1%.

I believe you that you the individual are not what I said about America, but America as a whole still has a lot of work to do. And as we live here, we all embody a part of that America that isn't so wholesome and kind, and we always will until it changes.

I'm sorry that demands to be less awful to groups of people that aren't you make you feel like outside orgs are attacking your freedoms in some sort of conspiracy to destroy your insulated world, ESPECIALLY considering the context that the US has used malicious actors working against gender and racial equality to destabilize groups striving for better social justice.

If you like that text menu you might want to play around with RhinoCAD. You can do all of your work from a command line, so the workflow feels powerful and snappy. The drawback is that there is no fuzzy search like you mention so you need to know commands before executing them

Then what were you trying to say? It looks like you were trying to draw equivalence between crude workplace humor in your line of work and the tech communities's acceptance of misoginistic rape jokes. That is what the thread was about and that is the context I placed your reply in.

Come on, as a tech community we deserve and can do better.

legodt··on Lavabit returning in 19 days
That is different than making a joke at the expense of rape victims. Please think this through. The gender gap in another industry does not negate on in another.
legodt··on Lavabit returning in 19 days
I'm sure his service is just great, but, in the future, if you ever wonder why women don't go into tech (it seems so easy to, where are they?)- remember this. Tacit support of actors in the community like this make tech seem like a hostile place, or, at the very least, a boy's club of people okay with rape jokes.

It's not a sustainable atmosphere to maintain
