ldng··on Avoid Mini-Frameworks
Not every framework use IoC.
ldng··on Trump says US will keep or sell oil seized from Venezuela
Get ? You mean steal.
ldng··on Go ahead, self-host Postgres
More than that, it's easier than it ever was to setup but we live in the post-truth world where nobody wants to own their shit (both figuratively and concretely) ...
ldng··on Nvidia Invests $2B in Synopsys
"Synopsys will use Nvidia technology to improve its compute-intensive applications" Nvidia is basically giving them money for them to buy GPUs ...
ldng··on Nvidia Invests $2B in Synopsys
And Nvidia keeps buying itself clients ... when will the madness end ?!
ldng··on Markdown is holding you back
How about markdown -> PDF (with Typst) -> epub/mobi ?
ldng··on AI Exponentializes Your Tech Debt
You know nothing Jon Snow....
ldng··on Visualize FastAPI endpoints with FastAPI-Voyager
Is that de Chrome-only webapp ? Does not seem to work with Firefox.
ldng··on How we are building Audacity 4
Yes. And ?

A lot of projects propose cloud storage without trying to force it on you. More the How than the What which is questionable here.

ldng··on Nvidia buys $5B in Intel
Which is relatively funny since the new CEO has made it clear he wants to divest on the foundry side ...
ldng··on Gnome 49 Release
Kind of fascinating to see that "KDE is now my favorite desktop" is getting ~780 pts while "Gnome 49 Release" announce has a grand total of ... 9 pts.

So few actually really care about Gnome it's depressing to see. And seeing the release is appalling, I mean... "Totem’s aging GTK 3 base" replace by Showtime "Evince’s older GTK 3 foundation" What's to understand ? That GTK 4 needs YET AGAIN a full rewrite as porting from GTK 3 is too hard and old ? All that to impose a touch design that the majority of desktop apps devs DON'T want to follow ?

Gnome project lost itself and keep digging. Mate is decaying, I can't believe I'm writing this but KDE might be my next desktop.

ldng··on Varnish Cache to be renamed Vinyl Cache project
Well, that'll put “Varnish Software” straight to my blacklist.
ldng··on Voyager – An interactive video generation model with realtime 3D reconstruction
oh yeah, major nuclear winter, that's the solution ... /s
ldng··on EPA wants to eliminate regulation for greenhouse gases
Good grief ! Get a handle on your nutcases for humanity's sake !
ldng··on Futurehome smart hub owners must pay new $117 subscription or lose access
Same here, but man, it's hard to find devices with zigbee ... manufacturers all want to sell you their f-ing cloud service. They heard it is more monetizable yet they don't really know how and end up shutting down the service anyway. Long live to (literally) programmed obsolescence. Annoying.
ldng··on Debian switches to 64-bit time for everything
Since your nitpicking, I can't resist myself ^^ I would say that it's not inaccurate but, eventually, less precise. And wouldn't you say that i386 IS the oldest arch ? ;-)
ldng··on Infomaniak comes out in support of controversial Swiss encryption law
Same .....
ldng··on Beyond Attention: Toward Machines with Intrinsic Higher Mental States
Can the anthropomorphic scam continue unchecked ? Apparently yes.
ldng··on The behavior of LLMs in hiring decisions: Systemic biases in candidate selection
You are conflating Neural Model with Large Langage Model

There are a lot more models than just LLM. Small specialized model are not necessarily costly to build and can be as (if not more) efficient and cheaper; both in term of training and inference.

ldng··on A kernel developer plays with Home Assistant
Well clearly he did not look under the hood ... I did. A few technical decisions are ... questionable. But it's prohibited to ask why in the forum. HA could do well in cleaning up its community that can be particularly toxic, especially toward advanced user and start accepting critics. The hostility one face when they don't want to follow the "dumb down version, do as we say" installation process is really off-putting.
ldng··on Pyrefly: A new type checker and IDE experience for Python
NIH + copyright
ldng··on Game preservationists say Switch2 GameKey Cards are disheartening but inevitable
What your saying is true BUT. Your are talking about keeping servers (plural ?) running but, for conservancy, you should not need a full fledge cloud. It not about keeping it running for millions of customers. It's about being able to run for research to study games in the long run. One server that can handle a couple or two clients should be enough for conservancy.
ldng··on Americans Believe Russian Disinformation 'To Alarming Degree'
Apparently so.
ldng··on What If We Could Rebuild Kafka from Scratch?
More than that. It is a nightmare to make binding for. So if you want to really be extensible through plugins, supporting other languages is very important.
ldng··on Everyday life improvements since the 90s (2022)
And they used to be obsolete within 3 years, tops.
ldng··on Rebuilding tools I use daily and making them free for everyone
Excellent collection of small tools. Thanks !

Note : You should make an anything to .avif ! ;-)

ldng··on The Insanity of Being a Software Engineer
You haven't been tasked with mobile and AI ... YET !
ldng··on Dow plunges 2,200 points, Nasdaq enters bear market
Who would have thought ...
ldng··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
They responded with a middle finger plus a boycott and the message was received loud and clear ?
