ldng··on Wow, if it's this easy in 1998, I bet it'll be even easier in 2026
It. Was. Bad. But Apple managed to strongarm telcos and it came with free unlimited 3G.
ldng··on Big tech's anti-labor playbook has come for Wikipedia
Except it does not work ex-nihilo and the bubble busrt is going to be painful
ldng··on Apparently Google hates us now
Have you ?

I've been a ddg user full time for 15+ years and I did see it improve quite lot over time. But quality dropped when Yandex was cut off.

Lately, I've noticed YET AGAIN being trapped in a bubble with results being to clever for their own good ... I did leave Google PRECISELY for the bubble effect ...

Not even mentioned the AI shenanigans with ridiculous results at times. DDG is not immune to enshitification. Way too many managers thinks they know better than the user ... they don't.

ldng··on FSF trying to contact Google about spammer sending 10k+ mails from Gmail account
More often than people would like to admit, Google IS the scammer...
ldng··on Fixing a 20-year-old bug in Enlightenment E16
And people did but it is hard against Redhat that has actively made harder and harder to use Gtk+ outside GNOME.
ldng··on Xilem – An experimental Rust native UI framework
Fair enough. A little warning would go a long way though.
ldng··on Xilem – An experimental Rust native UI framework
hum, well, not that convincing :

Failed to open window: WebGPU context not initialized. Was Platform::run() called?

Not being able to load the component gallery does not inspire great confidence.

ldng··on Every GPU That Mattered
Indeed. It was, sadly, more important than popular. Which, to my eyes, comfort the generated content theory.
ldng··on German implementation of eIDAS will require an Apple/Google account to function
The solution is simple : https://www.europarl.europa.eu/petitions/en/artcl/I+want+to+...

Because you'll be stonewalled by devs because they can't really changer decisions made bu higher ups.

Edit: I'd sign it, but don't want manage and diffuse it.

ldng··on ESP32-S31: Dual-Core RISC-V SoC with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and Advanced HMI
And what would a better alternative look like ?
ldng··on Why I forked httpx
They always were but it's clearly spiraling faster.
ldng··on FFmpeg 8.1
Well, I don't how it is these days, but it hasn't always been describable as "Healthy".
ldng··on Can I run AI locally?
It is a deceitful metaphor.
ldng··on Don't trust AI agents
Plus, the "since there are more resources, let's add features" effect.
ldng··on The Eternal Promise: A History of Attempts to Eliminate Programmers
Terrible argument. They always could learn and DIY.
ldng··on EU bans the destruction of unsold apparel, clothing, accessories and footwear
I don't think you can sell at loss in Europe (not sure, happy to be corrected), so might be small but it'll still be positive. The bet is it will be high enough to be a deterrent. The other bet is that at some point the rest of the world will push back being a corporate dumpster.
ldng··on Anthropic tries to hide Claude's AI actions. Devs hate it
And unreasonably expensive unless you are Big Corp. Die startups, die. Welcome to our Cyberpunk overlords.
ldng··on TrumpRx delayed as senators question if it's a giant scam with Big Pharma
It's like American absolutly want to be robed by Trump.
ldng··on Designing a Passively Safe API
I find the emphasis on micro-service distracting.

I get that it is particularly valuable in that scenario by treating other services as "external API", but monolith also do call "external API" and delegate work to async tasks. The principles discussed here API are interesting beyond just micro-services while being lighter and simpler than Durable Execution.

ldng··on Mozilla is building an AI 'rebel alliance' to take on OpenAI, Anthropic
Don't bother. Moz management don't give a shit and haven't been giving a shit for a LONG time. It's like the f*cking magas, the more you tell them no, the more they double down ...

I'm done. Starting to look for an alternative.

ldng··on TikTok users can't upload anti-ICE videos. The company blames tech issues
Freedom of speech, right ? ... My god, the US are so fucked up.
ldng··on FBI is investigating Minnesota Signal chats tracking ICE
So ... you're saying that this militia as every incentive to overthrow democratie so that they never get prosecuted, right ?

See where this is going ?

ldng··on Proton spam and the AI consent problem
Did you by any chance report them to something like spamcop.net ?

Aggressive spamming => Aggressive reporting.

ldng··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
So Trump is jalous because it did not have its peace Nobel and take it on Maduro. Shall we give it to a Russian political opponent next year ?
ldng··on Claude wrote a functional NES emulator using my engine's API
And said emulator was opensourced and tested by third parties, right ?

Until it's so, it's just hearsay to me by someone having a multi-billion horse in the race.

ldng··on Postgres extension complements pgvector for performance and scale
I'm not how you'd combine the two; care to give us a quick outline ?
ldng··on MongoBleed Explained Simply
MongoDB has always sucked... But it's webscale (sic)

Do yourself a favour, use ToroDB instead (or even straight PostgreSQL's JSONB).

ldng··on Karpathy on Programming: “I've never felt this much behind”
I maintain, the web today is not what people though it would be in 1998. The tech has it's uses, it's just not what snake oil sellers are making it to be. And talking about Butlerian jihad is borderline snake oil selling.
ldng··on Karpathy on Programming: “I've never felt this much behind”
Yeah. OR. You just ignore the bullshit until the bubble burst. Then we'll see what's left and it will not be what the majority think.
ldng··on How uv got so fast
That might be how uv got fast but that is not why it got popular.

PyPA has been a mess for a very long time for in-fighting, astroturfing, gatekeeping and so on with pip being the battlefield. The uv team just did one thing that PyPA & co stopped doing a long time ago (if they ever did ...) : actually solving pain point of their user and never saying "it's not possible because [insert bullshit]" or reply "it's OSS, do it yourself" to then reject the work with attitude and baseless argument.

They listened to their user's issues and solved their pain points without denying them. period.
