lbj··on How to profile your PHP applications with Xdebug
There are too many to mention, even Clojure supports inline templating, but it's a horrible design pattern. Have a look at Enlive instead if you want something close but solid.
lbj··on How to profile your PHP applications with Xdebug
Not much have changed in PHP since 2012, relating to his exact criticisms. I've yet to meet a good developer who likes the language, but I've met many who like it.
lbj··on The Demise of the Mildly Dynamic Website
I guess we don't format our webpages anymore
lbj··on Launch HN: Meticulous (YC S21) – Catch JavaScript errors before they hit prod
Wow, that's impressive. Love the network request/response capturing for the replays.
lbj··on Show HN: A Web-Based Modular Drum Machine for You to Play With
Very impressive. How long have you been working on this?
lbj··on Is everything falling apart?
Thomas has said himself, that he does not care about pronouns, as long as he gets to destroy women sports, so I don't understand why you're so offended on his behalf.

Having said that, of course he's not a woman. No doctor in the world would disagree with me on that. You're deluded by some kind of ideology which puts even Idiocracy to shame. Snap out of it.

lbj··on Is everything falling apart?
That's my feeling as well. Go Woke Go Mentally Broke.
lbj··on The FDA is proposing a ban on menthol cigarettes
You can't help but feel loved when you see the great lengths governments go to, to act like our parents. /s
lbj··on Increased cardiovascular events in Israel during vaccine rollout and third wave
In Denmark we have only tracked "dead with" and then mid 2021 we had a large study to figure out the actual number of dead, which turned out to be about 120 people.
lbj··on Increased cardiovascular events in Israel during vaccine rollout and third wave
In Denmark at least, through all of 2020 we had 0.0% increase in mortality. 2 weeks after we started vaccinating that number climbed to 12.6%, so we might find that the vaccines have killed even more people.

Certainly if you did the deceptive deed of tracking "dead with vaccine" like we do for the disease.

lbj··on Increased cardiovascular events in Israel during vaccine rollout and third wave
It's very, very, very far from close. The most recent study from Christine Stabell out of Copenhagen showed that even if you're in the age group where the vaccine cuts covid mortality in half, you're overall 7% more likely to die by taking the vaccine. We need to get back to the drawing board on this one.
lbj··on Increased cardiovascular events in Israel during vaccine rollout and third wave
Correlation between rollouts and virus-infections respectively, show that the mRNA vaccine is almost twice as likely to cause a cardiovascular event. So Covid is indeed dangerous, but not quite as dangerous as the vaccine it seems.
lbj··on Netflix loses subscribers for the first time in 10+ years
Go Woke Go Broke, that's how it goes.
lbj··on Unreal Engine 5 is now available
Just amazing what these guys can do. The UE team and the Nvidia guys are doing 99% of the interesting work in graphics these days.
lbj··on Highlighting COVID-19 racial disparity can reduce support for safety precautions
Madness has driven us to this point, where instead of being colorblind we assign importance to race in every single thing that happens. Ironically those who spend their days and nights fighting racism have become the ultimate racists - As Nietzsche predicted they would long ago.

Also a good read in the same vein: https://eev.ee/blog/2012/04/09/php-a-fractal-of-bad-design/

Try calculating "Dead with water" and tell me how dangerous you think water is. Looksl ike another misrepresentation by the "covid fanatics"

lbj··on How I Use Clojure to Build and Scale My SaaS
Great write-up, and looks like a great product as well, love the dark-mode addition!
lbj··on The road to success is paved with rejection letters
I hate that an inspirational story like this has to start with an inb4 "Im white. Im straight. Im privileged". Its 2022 and I thought we'd be colorblind by now, but its never been a bigger issue. At least for some very loud people.
lbj··on Solid.js feels like what I always wanted React to be
Almost every criticism of React that I've read, goes away when you drive it from Clojurescript. If you haven't had the pleasure I suggest you take it out for a spin.

Example of a full blown React component in Clojurescript:

  (defn counter
    []
    (let [state (r/atom 0)]
      (fn []
        [:div {:onClick #(swap! state inc)}
         "The count is: " @state])))

lbj··on What I learned during my three days offline
I quit coffee for 45 minute today, anyone interested in a write-up of what i learned?
lbj··on Dune: Spice Wars
That looks surprisingly bad for a 2022 game. The characters are a matter of taste I guess, but rendering soldiers that are larger than buildings, poor perspectives etc. I love Dune but hope they put in a lot more work.
lbj··on Basic income would not reduce people’s willingness to work
Well, in Denmark we have the equivalent of Basic income and I'd say we have a major problem with peoples willingness to work. Some families are on welfare for generations now.
lbj··on Simple.css – A classless CSS framework
Meta question: I really love this post/framework, but have no use for it right now, so I'm putting it in my bookmarks where my ability to pick it back up relies on my memory of this post. How do you guys manage your bookmarks?
lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
Thank you so much!
lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
Very glad to hear that I'm not alone in this line of thought.

Keep us posted on your SKU success. I wont pretend to be a wizard in the area, learning as I go along so stories from other ventures are a big inspiration.

lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
Thank you for sharing, I think those insights are correct.

We have currently a few features where it's painfully obvious how to cheat the system to gain higher-tier functions. I wont change that, because if you're that strapped for cash that you'd rather cheat than pay 20€, I'm going to look the other way and hope that things change for the better for that person.

lbj··on Lessons learned on SaaS pricing
The top tier reduction isn't very scientific. We had 99% of our paying customers on the middle-tier and we engaged a couple of them asking how we could improve the top tier to motivate them to try it out. All of them said that 60€/mo was higher than what their gut would allow them to pay.

In addition, we allowed Basic customers to also invoice by creditcard or subscription, which was the main feature requested for Professional. Since isn't not exclusive to Professional, that does lower the total value of that tier.

If you disagree with logic, please let me know :)
