lazzlazzlazz··on Fort Hood attacker's execution by firing squad will be livestreamed
If you don't want to see it, you don't have to. Unfortunate that so many comments here are very interested in limiting other peoples' access to view justice, no matter how grim it is. Again: don't watch if you don't want to.

A fitting end for an utter monster.

lazzlazzlazz··on Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability
Did you read the post? It's all framed as "worrying". It's a very biased, thoughtless piece.
lazzlazzlazz··on Mamdani Bans AI in NYC Schools
There's nearly zero AI zealotry on here. As of the time of my posting, almost every comment here on Hacker News is both supportive of the measure and largely against AI. This is now a neo-Luddite messaging board.
lazzlazzlazz··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
Incredibly unpopular opinion on Hacker News, but X remains the center of many circles, including tech. There is almost nothing posted on Hacker News that I haven't seen on X first, with better commentary.
lazzlazzlazz··on AI companies destroy physical books – let's scan rare books before it's too late
Yes, read more carefully: one copy. Do you panic when the "wrong person" buys a single rare book?

The issue is that the copyright holders and book publishers make it hard to make more copies, not that somebody bought a single copy of a book, no matter how rare.

If you could print any book on demand (paying for it), the issue would vanish instantly. And who makes that decision?

lazzlazzlazz··on AI companies destroy physical books – let's scan rare books before it's too late
Aren't the AI companies just buying one copy of each book?

And this is supposed to be concerning?

lazzlazzlazz··on Unions Can Save Tech Workers and Tech Work
This is the absolute last thing that tech needs. What a blow it would be, a nightmare.
lazzlazzlazz··on Codeberg bans vibe coded projects
Are they also banning projects whose code was written with AI or just vibe coded projects? Roughly every serious codebase now and forevermore will be at least mostly AI written.
lazzlazzlazz··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
The advice subreddits were absolutely horrible before AI. The entire 2016-2024 period was utter madness there, likely as a result of globalization. As AI gets smarter, it may make the comments better, sadly!
lazzlazzlazz··on A Silly Adaptation of "The Odyssey"
Given the astroturfing/filtration campaigns known to be abused by Hollywood... sure it's probably fake, yes.
lazzlazzlazz··on A Silly Adaptation of "The Odyssey"
Looked awful in basically all respects, and everyone I trust on film thought it was an embarrassment. A shame, and such an opportunity.
lazzlazzlazz··on AI saves about 3% of your hours, and almost none of it reaches the money
Just embarrassing to believe a study like this right now.
lazzlazzlazz··on Ask HN: Why is the HN crowd so anti-AI?
Years ago Hacker News became deeply resistant of and resentful toward new technology, not coincidentally around the same time that it became more Reddit-like (consensus-brained, left-leaning politically, defensive, sclerotic). It's all part of the same phenomenon.
lazzlazzlazz··on She won a religious exemption from using AI at work
I wonder if, some day, people will request exemptions from being productive at work.
lazzlazzlazz··on Electrobun 2.0 will be decoupled from Bun due to the Rust rewrite
Yeah, bizarre and sad. And, unsurprisingly, Hacker News seems sympathetic. They are getting very old.
lazzlazzlazz··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
These are just a blend of Luddism, gatekeeping, and difficulty accepting new technology.
lazzlazzlazz··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
Where are all the guys in the Hacker News comments who have been explaining how bad LLMs are?
lazzlazzlazz··on GitLab announces workforce reduction and end of their CREDIT values
Insane to see this kind of comment on Hacker News. I suspect it's satire!
lazzlazzlazz··on United Wizards of the Coast
Awful news and a sign that WOTC has lost control of the company. The writing has been on the wall for WOTC for a while now, and this will exacerbate their decline. Amazing how unionists seize the body of their host when it is weakest.

EDIT: it is incredible how hostile HN is now to ant-union sentiment. None of the would-be founders here would support unionization at their companies. :)

lazzlazzlazz··on Parallel agents in Zed
I like Zed but the defaults for tabs (CTRL+Tab and CTRL+Shift+Tab step you through some diabolical tab selector in what is allegedly (but not really) recency order instead of just left/right. It really made me question their sanity.
lazzlazzlazz··on Don't post generated/AI-edited comments. HN is for conversation between humans.
This is a bit sad. The kind of people who post AI generated comments to farm reputation or exert undue influence will not be discouraged by politely asking them to stop. It's a toothless request that will only encourage people who clumsily police each other.

Without some kind of private proof of personhood enforced at the app level, this means nothing.

lazzlazzlazz··on A tool that removes censorship from open-weight LLMs
Exactly. And I'm downvoted below 0 for pointing this out. :)
lazzlazzlazz··on Statement on the comments from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
Turns out that Dario was lying about not having heard from the Department of War, as reported by Undersecretary Emil Michael:

lazzlazzlazz··on We Will Not Be Divided
The signatories of this site are leaping at a misguided opportunity for moral credit, when the reality is that they're getting whipped into a left-leaning frenzy.

As Undersecretary Jeremy Lewin clarified today[1], these weighty decisions should not be made by activists inside companies, but made by laws and legitimate government.

lazzlazzlazz··on Aqua: A CLI message tool for AI agents
I've been using XMTP[1] and their agent SDK[2] for agent-to-agent and user-to-agent messaging. Since it's the same network, you can reach other peoples' agents (and all users). Another huge advantage is you don't have to stand up your own infrastructure.

lazzlazzlazz··on Discord/Twitch/Snapchat age verification bypass
Apple is believed to be adding multispectral imaging to future generations of the iPhone. This and 3d mapping are more than enough to defeat the "point the camera at a high res screen" trick.

The issue is that age verifiers (like Discord) are not really trying.

lazzlazzlazz··on OpenAI's GPT-5.2 model cites Grokipedia
This makes sense. I already use Grokipedia maybe 50% of the time. If you really dig into things, it is - incredibly - more accurate. I often find glaring errors or biases in Wikipedia, especially over the last 5 years.
lazzlazzlazz··on Danish pension fund divesting US Treasuries
Many will downvote this, but this is profound validation of the concern that Europe is nearly suicidally trending toward what will be a disastrous relationship with China. Only the US seems to appreciate the risks. Complete insanity, not unlike German denuclearization, etc.
lazzlazzlazz··on A decentralized peer-to-peer messaging application that operates over Bluetooth
Every time I've logged into Bitchat, nobody appears to be online - across the entire United States.
lazzlazzlazz··on Launching the Handmade Software Foundation
Is the software better, though?
