lazycouchpotato··on ChatGPT won't let you type until Cloudflare reads your React state
At times I'm completely locked out of a website and Cloudflare asks me to email the website owner to get the issue resolved.

.. how do they expect me to find the website owner's email if I can't access said website?

lazycouchpotato··on New iPad Air, powered by M4
Disappointing to see 128 GB base storage. I thought they were done with that after all the iPhone 17 models got the bump to 256 GB.
lazycouchpotato··on KDE Connect: Enabling communication between all your devices
At least for Windows, marking a WiFi connection from Public to Private solved a lot of connection issues for me.
lazycouchpotato··on Do not accept terms and conditions
Site's borked, but for those that were able to access it, is it like Ente's https://consent.gg/ ?
lazycouchpotato··on Apple Vision Pro upgraded with M5 chip
I thought you can take spacial photos/videos on iPhone and view it on the Vision Pro later?

https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/spatial-photos-record...

I don't have either so I don't know how well iPhone vs. natively taken photos/videos compare.

lazycouchpotato··on Westjet is going to make you pay to recline your seat
I don't hate low cost carriers. I absolutely want competition.

I was flying Spirit quite frequently. I'm well prepped. I have a backpack that is the maximum size allowed as a personal item, I carry an empty water bottle and a meal from home. They have an option where you can bid on exit row and big seats in advance. I'd bid the lowest amount ($4-10) and almost always win the upgrade.

Not everyone is aware of this though. I dislike businesses that prey on customers' lack of knowledge to bombard them with fees.

The guy next to me on a flight last year got hit with a $80 fee at the gate because his bag was an inch or so too big. It was his first time flying Spirit. It was cheaper for him to discard that bag and purchase a smaller bag for the flight back.

How much more nickel and diming is there left to be done? Standing seats? [1]

Very anecdotal evidence, but I was on a trip last week and Spirit was more expensive than American which is what I chose. I'm not loyal to any airline.

No one was at the gate hounding at people for bag sizes. I had Wi-Fi on the plane and got a drink and a small snack. My knees also appreciated the slightly longer legroom.

lazycouchpotato··on Westjet is going to make you pay to recline your seat
Joining the likes of Spirit Airlines, it seems. It's working out great for them, going through their second bankruptcy in less than 12 months.

Updated to iPadOS 26 on my iPad 9.

It's so laggy on the home screen now. Absolutely ruined the poor thing.

lazycouchpotato··on Apple Debuts iPhone 17
Base Pixel 10 is the same as iPhone 17 at USD 800.

Yes the Pixel 10 now has telephoto but they nerfed the cameras from the Pixel 9 for that.

In the Pro models for both the pricing is comparable, yeah.

Also realized that Apple charges $200 to jump from 256 GB to 512 GB. That's ridiculous.

lazycouchpotato··on Apple Debuts iPhone 17
256 GB base storage without a price increase is good to see.

Makes the Mac Mini look weird now with 256 GB base storage.

Pretty shameful of Google to stick to 128 GB on the Pixel 10.

lazycouchpotato··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
Last I checked, Microsoft was trying to get rid of it.

It's still possible to set up using only a local account, but who knows for how long.

lazycouchpotato··on Kagi Reaches 50k Users
Large customers like DuckDuckGo are unaffected by the API retirement [1]. I don't know if Kagi is one of them.

It seems that Kagi isn't expecting that things will change much [2].

lazycouchpotato··on Firefox tab groups are here
Appears to still be rolling out progressively - something that the release notes left out. I'm on 138.0 and I don't have it either.

> All users should expect to see the feature by May 6, 2025. [1]

lazycouchpotato··on Everyone knows all the apps on your phone
The "pull to refresh" is probably the most annoying one.

Other than that, I'd like text to be selectable! I don't like it when apps don't allow you to copy text.

I use Copy [1], and when that doesn't work I use the OCR text selection feature on my Pixel phone.

lazycouchpotato··on Why can't we screenshot frames from DRM-protected video on Apple devices?
Recently ran into issues caused by Apple's DRM protection as well.

I wanted to stream Crunchyroll on my TV from my iPad 9 via the Lightning to HDMI dongle. Apparently an iOS update 2 years ago broke that functionality for DRM content [1].

lazycouchpotato··on 'The tyranny of apps': those without smartphones are unfairly penalised
You can add multiple Google accounts - one for each country, and switch between them on the Play Store. That's how I'm able to access apps from my home country and resident country.

As for using the apps themselves, you might run into issues depending on what restrictions they have - IP address, SMS verification, etc.

lazycouchpotato··on Blocklist for AI Music on YouTube
I'll give it a try. Thank you!
lazycouchpotato··on Blocklist for AI Music on YouTube
> since then, i really started to notice that my youtube recommendations have been colonized to a very large degree by mixes made entirely out of AI generated music

Turn off your YT watch history and search history. I've advocated for this on HN for years. Watching one or two AI slop videos won't ruin your recommendations, leaving the algorithm to rely on your likes to find you stuff you'd want to watch.

Now if only YT could fix search and allow me to block Shorts.

lazycouchpotato··on Motion sickness accessibility in video games
Botany Manor is a game I played not too long ago that has such motion sickness accessibility settings. It's a great way to allow those to experience the game who otherwise might find it difficult to do so.
lazycouchpotato··on Google Fiber is coming to Las Vegas
Took another look at the connection info and yeah you're right. The Xfinity connection in my area is cable. Not sure why I thought it was fiber.

Thanks for the correction.

lazycouchpotato··on Google Fiber is coming to Las Vegas
Xfinity hasn't gotten that notice apparently.

They offer 1 Gbps download in my area with 20 Mbps upload. And it comes with a 1.2 TB limit.

EDIT: I'm wrong. The Xfinity in my area is on cable.

lazycouchpotato··on Google Fiber is coming to Las Vegas
A recent LTT video attributes it to hotels colluding so that one's Wi-Fi isn't too much better than the others.

lazycouchpotato··on Nintendo announces the Switch 2 [video]
The giant 2 is a bit obnoxious. Other than that everything looks good.

And for the love of God Nintendo you better be using hall effect joysticks for this one. Can't imagine the amount of e-waste they generated with the Switch joycons.

lazycouchpotato··on TikTok preparing for U.S. shut-off on Sunday
Shorts is garbage.

There are so many UI elements on top of video that end up blocking what you're trying to see. There is no way to hide them.

YouTube also destroyed its search.

lazycouchpotato··on I've acquired a new superpower
Fascinating!

I was able to grab focus for the first image. Found it hard for the second and third image. I focused on the first one and then scrolled down to the second and third - that made it easier for me.

lazycouchpotato··on Microsoft Bing is trying to spoof Google UI when people search Google.com
Microsoft can't seem to compete on merit for anything.
lazycouchpotato··on Spotify Shuts Down ‘Unwrapped’ Artist Royalty Calculator with Legal Threats
For those unaware, there are services like TuneMyMusic [1] and Soundiiz [2] that allow you to transfer playlists between platforms for a fee.

Spotify did shut down certain API endpoints last month [3] though, so there's no guarantee these services may continue working for Spotify. Worst case scenario you'd have to download your data [4] and then figure out a way to create playlists on the other platform.
