This change only affects people who need UTC to be close to UT1 and also somehow don't know what UT1 is.
One of the largest electronic health records systems has code that predates the UNIX epoch. Much of the time handling code is custom written to deal with this. However, the code was so poorly written that the system would lose data during the double 1 am window that occurs during daylight savings time shift. Hospitals would just shut off all of their computers during this time to deal with it.
As the article notes, issues with leap seconds have also brought down reddit and cloudflare. Many people in this thread are treating this like some sort of display of incompetence, but if you've ever written code that deeply interacts with time, you'd know how difficult it is to get right. A sign of a good system is one where it is difficult to fuck up.
IMO it is better to guarantee that time always moves forward rather than trying to match computer time to human time.
(also the whole concept of "Up or out" comes from Big Law/Consulting... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_or_out)
You are just as "set for life" in big tech as big law. In fact, if you're looking at the last decade, big tech won hard considering tech stocks and how big law froze (and even slightly cut) salaries during the great recession.
We being Europeans. Double reads are not standard in the majority of the world, including the US.
Medicare funds this out of a broad idea of it being a public good if there are more physicians. Note, there is no obligation that physicians work in public service after residency. This is in contrast to if you go to med school on a military scholarship (in which case, there is an obligation to serve).
In other words, if medicine weren't cartel, the government wouldn't need to pay doctors to train new doctors.
Deletion is another matter though.
Probably in the same way that one could explain how the existence of Taco Bell does not preclude racism towards Mexicans.
2) Politically motivated violence is rare in the US and right-wing violence obviously exists as well:

Implying that people who enjoy wearing red hats should avoid SF is like telling liberals to not open their mail. It's absurd.
3) They definitely make 49er hats in bright red:

Is it so absurd to think that the pandemic is probably one of the worst events many people today have ever experienced? One of the reoccurring themes of existentialism is that individuals form their own meaning, a meaning that may be radically altered if they've lost their job due to the pandemic, have been hospitalized due to the pandemic, or have lost someone to the pandemic.
In fact, the first time existentialism became mainstream was in the aftermath of World War II, a large scale global disaster that shook people's faith in God and Government (capital G). Is the coronavirus pandemic not the most global disaster since WWII?
I was a somewhat successful premed student (99.9th percentile MCAT, CS major), and I went the FAANG route instead. Physician and tech salaries are similar in that the top makes alot more than everyone else, although the bottom for physicians is a bit higher. For less competitive people who may only have only gotten into a single med school and whose job prospects with a biology degree are limited, the med route can make sense from a purely financial point of view.
