Also shipping comes around 25€ in Europe. Quite steep for a phone priced at 169€.
Hopefully Datazenit[0] will solve this and provide great cross-database, cross-platform support. Currently it is beta stage and supports MySQL/PostgreSQL, but other database systems are on the way.
I added ``line-height: 1.4em;`` in dev tools and now they look ok - https://www.dropbox.com/s/ksxu15t9rrofxti/Screenshot%202014-...
After first glance it seems that Dgrid requires dojo framework which I have no interest to depend on and also provides too much functionality for us. Datazenit needs something simple, stable and extensible. Sensei Grid will definitely have just a tiny fraction of Dgrid features. If you need something fully featured and complex, then Sensei Grid is not for you and you should stick with Dgrid or any other alternative.
Sensei Grid will be kept simple, but additional functionality will be provided through plugins. I don't want to flood the core grid with functionality that would lead to complexity. However smart pasting is something I would consider including in the core.
Btw I just updated README.me file and added goals, blog posts and other info related to Sensei Grid - https://github.com/datazenit/sensei-grid/blob/master/README....
There are currently 571 open issues[0] for Handsontable on Github. Each new release breaks something major and we can't wait forever for them to fix the issues. I wrote two blog posts regarding this (without mentioning Handsontable, but it was the library in question):
* http://lauris.github.io/development/2014/08/25/work-and-open...
* http://lauris.github.io/datazenit/2014/08/29/open-source-wor...
These articles may shed some light on why did we start development on our own library.

Currently the list is just a work in progress, but I am certain that after several iterations of pull requests it will be up to date and useful.

And your are right about the right tool for the right task. Datazenit naturally evolved into what it is now. Customer feedback and feature requests initiated the switch to Scala.
Thanks!
Proper database management tools were long due.
Kohana was slowly dying at the time and the development had almost stopped (currently the framework is completely dead). But really I just wanted to try a new stack and Django looked promising. Also had prior Python experience.
In the next project [0] we went from Python/Django to Scala/Play :)

However after I left the company, we changed the design and did a complete rewrite (switched from PHP/Kohana to Python/Django). Now it is up and running for a few months and growing slowly but steadily.
I am currently building a web based database management tool in Scala and Backbone.js. Our initial prototype was built in Python, but Scala proved to be multiple times better fit for this kind of project.
Also we now offer both self-hosted and in cloud versions mainly thanks to JVM.
It's a recent poll about favorite relational database and Postgres came first by far.
