latishsehgal··on Show HN: Read My Book Notes
The notes are scanned as an image, so everything depends on your handwriting. The image looks exactly like what you typed on the notebook. The scanning/OCR process to extract the text out depends on your handwriting. My handwriting is pretty bad, but I get 80-90% accuracy in the OCR

I'll try and add support for comments soon. Thanks for the input.

Thanks! Appreciate the kind words

I cobbled it together using GatsbyJS and one of the starter themes. The rotating book effects are from tutorials from https://tympanus.net/codrops/
latishsehgal··on Show HN: Read My Book Notes
I take notes using a Livescribe Echo pen as I am reading. It gets OCRd about 90% correctly. I fix the last 10% manually. The whole point of taking the notes is because I have a horrible memory :).
latishsehgal··on Ask HN: Best business advice for software developers
* You get to be your own boss, but that’s not always a good thing. Because being your own boss does not mean that you are a good boss.

* Execution>Idea. Don't work on multiple projects till at least one is shipped.

* Pairing up with other like minded folks is better than going solo, but only if you can get along really well.

* The highs are higher, and the lows are lower.

* Develop good habits

* Make your first project a small one

* Failure (at least small ones) is not a problem. Failing to recover is.

* Sales and Marketing are very important. They need as much time as working on your products/ideas

* Start now, you'll never feel ready

This is the tl;dr version of a longer blog post I wrote about my personal experience http://www.dotnetsurfers.com/blog/2016/03/29/lessons-learned...

latishsehgal··on Why Fruits and Veggies Are So Cheap in Chinatown
I live in Dallas and have noticed significantly lower prices in the local Indian grocery stores as well. Would anybody here know if the same concept applies there as well.
latishsehgal··on Visual Studio Productivity Power Tools Open-Sourced
Sure. I built a SSMS (based on Visual Studio shell, so same code) extension called SqlSmash www.sqlsmash.com. Half the features in there have made me dig into stuff like that. The latest example was trying to get a handle on the query results grid so that I can use the data in there.
latishsehgal··on Visual Studio Productivity Power Tools Open-Sourced
This is great! As somebody who's worked with Extending Visual Studio before, it's always great to have some more code samples to dig through. Outside of simple scenarios, I usually have to decompile the VS dlls to figure out what's going on.
latishsehgal··on Ask HN: Book Recommendations?
My top 4 recommendations (full list and notes at http://www.dotnetsurfers.com/books/) The Power of Habit, Search Inside Yourself, The Willpower Instinct, Zero to One
latishsehgal··on Developing Our First iOS App with React Native
Have you run into any gotchas? I am thinking of doing the same thing for a simple app.
latishsehgal··on Stop Looking for a Cofounder
I am guessing his intentions were "You must have a cofounder to have better odds of surviving"?. I always use the marriage analogy for finding a cofounder. I love being married and would recommend it to other folks if they find the right person, but wouldn't recommend it just for the heck of it.
latishsehgal··on Stop Looking for a Cofounder
I have been trying to bootstrap a one man software shop for the last 2 years and recently released v2 of the software. How I usually explain it to my "work" friends is that the highs are higher and the lows are lower while trying to do everything yourself. I would have jumped at the opportunity of having a cofounder for that reason, but never found the right people interested.
latishsehgal··on Those making $1,000+/month on side projects – what did you make?
This is awesome! Thanks

latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
SqlSmash is now live and open to the general public.
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
I haven't finalized the pricing yet.
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
Is it possible to download the SSMS 2012 express version and use that?
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
Good point. I'll try to make the initial loading faster, and rethink the quick info feature.
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
That's a lot of sql :), and the perfect scenario to use the summarize feature.
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
Results wise, "Find all references" should show you a flattened list of the hierarchy that you see with show dependencies. Also, the idea was to make it keyboard friendly.

Quick Info might potentially involve to show more information (definition, references etc). If not, and if nobody sees value in it, I might take it out.

latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
I haven't finalized the pricing yet, but it should not break the bank. I am going to start with SSMS 2012, and if there's a demand to support older versions, I'll do that. I am curious what you would consider as a reasonable price for this? Also, I think you can use SSMS 2012 to connect to older Sql Server Databases. Is there a reason for you to use the older SSMS?
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
Good to hear. Thanks!
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
This is a revelation for me. I'll definitely leave it in there now.
latishsehgal··on Show HN: SqlSmash, A productivity plugin for Sql Server Management Studio
Great feedback. Thank you!

I am a huge R# fan myself. To be honest, that was the original inspiration to create this tool.
