lappet··on After many false starts, hydrogen power might now bear fruit
I am curious, how do Solar Parks in India work? The Quaid-e-Azam park is in the Thar desert and the desert extends to India as well in the state of Rajasthan. India seems to have built a solar park at Bhadla, ~300 km away from Quaid-e-Azam, in a different part of the same desert.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhadla_Solar_Park

Apparently Bhadla is the world's largest solar park. I wonder if the two countries can co-operate on this (I know relations are mostly hostile currently)

lappet··on YouTube bans Stefan Molyneux, David Duke, Richard Spencer for hate speech
So Al Qaeda etc would be legal in the US?
lappet··on YouTube bans Stefan Molyneux, David Duke, Richard Spencer for hate speech
Wasn't the Klan responsible for hate-mongering and terrorist activities in the past?
lappet··on YouTube bans Stefan Molyneux, David Duke, Richard Spencer for hate speech
Any thoughts on why the Klan hasn't yet been banned outright?
lappet··on Textures.js is a JavaScript library for creating SVG patterns
It is not clear to me how you can create maps with this.
lappet··on The Importance of India
The population factor is a very interesting observation. I think this is missing India's point of view of the situation. India has always been wary of being very close to the US or other Western powers because of history. During the Cold War India was closer to the Russians. If the US wants to improve relations with India, it needs to recognize that India will likely remain independent (another pole in a multi-polar world)
lappet··on For black CEOs in Silicon Valley, humiliation is a part of doing business
Man, I feel you, I have worked in the valley for 10 years and am yet to work closely with a black developer. I have felt the loneliness at times - I seem to oscillate between all white teams and teams with many Asians (I am Indian). When you are a minority in a group, I think you tend to overthink things, feel very judged, and may be put in to an uncomfortable position to speak for your community. It can be weird and I try my best to stay aware of myself in such situations.

By the way, I did read your blog post "The Machine Fired me" when it first came out - it was fascinating and extremely disturbing. Hope life is more boring now!

lappet··on The Holy Men of India
A while back I started reading the Bhagavata Purana and boy does it have some good stories. Do you have any favorites or recommendations for old Indian texts?
lappet··on US customs and border protection is flying a surveillance drone over Minneapolis
It is insane that a police officer in plain clothes would do that. Did they think they would not get caught?
lappet··on Rediscovering the Small Web
Thank you for making this! I joined as well.
lappet··on Ask HN: Mind bending books to read and never be the same as before?
I love this book and often read a random chapter just for inspiration. The cities described in the book are something else.
lappet··on Ask HN: Name one idea that changed your life
Can you elaborate why high tech is similar to mass murder? I don't always embrace tech but I see tech as a tool that can function differently based on who is using it
lappet··on A sweary, ranty YouTuber who's become an isolation cooking sensation
Indian here and I loved it. Death to jar sauce! I have been clamoring for no-nonsense cooking tips for ages...too many chefs take themselves too seriously. The video is a little jarring I must admit, but he looks like he is having fun!
lappet··on India coronavirus: The 'mystery' of low Covid-19 death rates
Wow, I just noticed this after you pointed it out. I have learned to take news with a huge pinch of salt. Many of the "reputed" establishments fail miserably when covering India or China. If you are writing an opinion piece, fine. But whatever happened to nuance and covering multiple PoVs? I think with Covid it is really important for us to wait and watch and stop competing.
lappet··on Ask HN: Why don't you have a blog?
I have a blog but I am unsure how to share & receive feedback in 2020. The online world seems to be trending towards micro-blogging, photos and videos and I worry if people take the time to read long form blog posts.
lappet··on Ask HN: Why did you leave the tech industry?
wow, I plan to study history at some point. Is it possible to study part time, do you think?
lappet··on Convert Markdown to a Mind Map
beautiful! I love it.
lappet··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
I am learning how to get better at writing short stories in April by participating in Camp Nanowrimo

lappet··on How to burn the most money with a single click in Azure
DB & API on the same instance doesn't sound ideal
lappet··on How to burn the most money with a single click in Azure
Does the $3.5 per month include DB as well?
lappet··on How to burn the most money with a single click in Azure
Oh wow, does lightsail come with postgres? Is it like a PaaS on top of AWS? Also TPS means transactions per second
lappet··on Ask HN: What projects are you working on now?
Sorry I missed your response, thank you for the detailed answer.
lappet··on Ask HN: What projects are you working on now?
I really liked your quiz. Curious - what are you using for maps and data? I have made a geography quiz earlier but its no longer live
lappet··on The good parts of AWS: a visual summary
Sorry, I don't know the answer to that specific question. I do want to point out that CloudFront is just a CDN, you would use it in conjunction with something like S3.
lappet··on The good parts of AWS: a visual summary
+1. Although the dev experience is convoluted on AWS, you end up learning more and I think it is quite cheap as well. I have a tutorial as well on how to deploy a static website using CloudFront, S3 and Route53 : https://raviramanujam.com/post/blog/meta.html
lappet··on “Why Using WhatsApp Is Dangerous“
Why is this downvoted? The spread of fake news through Whatsapp is a real issue in many countries

lappet··on Homeless Developer in Los Angeles Needs Work, Can You Please Help?
hey man, it really sucks to be in the situation you are. I don't know anyone who is hiring in LA, but I can venmo you some money if it helps so you can last longer. Let me know and good luck. Have you tried reaching out to universities for IT jobs?
lappet··on Being a Noob
Huh this essay seems really confusing. I can't figure out what pg is actually trying to say - it is short but talks about being a noob in roundabout ways. If this is so popular, perhaps I should get back to blogging again.
lappet··on Ask HN: What are the best unknown books you have read?
A Thousand Beginnings and Endings (1), a collection of 15 short stories, all of them retellings of folk stories from South & East Asia
