Indie minion of the online ads ecosystem.
I always believed having one "French" mindset person in the team is an asset as a counter balance to the "Yes everything is awesome". Much like the UK is (was I guess) to the EU, simply because it opens up new perspectives / discussions.
Now if you have more than one (or a tiny percentage on really large teams) that's probably where the troubles start.
And the reason is the extensive (and expensive) paid support. It acts as an insurance for these businesses that are all about risk management.
Outstanding execution there.
This so much. One of our main adtech vendor is lagging behind on the API front. We've been chasing them for a while on when they'll be up to date so that we can build on top and they get back to us on how their other customers don't really want an API.
Of course, no one (beyond us tech crowd) goes to bed thinking oh I need an API to interface with my DSP. But I'm sure they'd be delighted about what the API can enable them to do.
Here's an advice if you are building / improving a pretty consequent SAAS product : Your UX sucks. Not that it is awful but it is likely not optimised for what your customers are doing, simply because you keep adding features and now it's bloated.
And I don't mean that it is an awful thing, it is the nature of such product to keep growing, because marketing, justifying salaries and obviously adding value.
Chances are, 80% of your customers are only using a good 20% of the features you offered and they'd rather have something that is tailored for efficiency to address their main pain point. So either you step up your game to offer that flexibility or you get your API game up to speed. Your competition might beat you to it and I know which product I'll choose.
I don't always succeed but the pure thrill of trying to survive what is usually a virtual death sentence is something really powerful and when successful so exhilarating.
On a similar note, I realised pen and paper -away from any computer, works wonders to organise my thoughts.
They go out in the pub around the corner after work with their company badge on display, they leverage having worked at Google in later jobs as if it has blessed them with infinite wisdom and knowledge.
It's quite cringe worthy to see people fall into that trap. And yes, it's not every single one of them but not exactly a fringe group either.
If anything, the biggest challenge / last bastion will be for the highly mobile operations, bringing all the needed infrastructure to power them, which isn't as much as problem with diesel.
Maybe we'll see trucks mounted with large arrays of batteries to deploy on the field.
Leveraging the heavy handed approach of China to pit them against the western companies.
As a second order effect, by getting Overwatch and the likes banned (if that were to happen), maybe create some dissent within China itself, though that's a bit far fetched.
There's plenty of shade you can throw at the good old snake, be it package management, performance / speed, formatting peculiarity but this one is the most unlikely I can think of.
What does it make it not easy in your mind?
I'd rather my friends call me a cunt (as the closest ones do) than mate, because the thin veneer of politeness in mate implies distance if not contempt (from strangers / acquaintances).
Combining both cheatsheets and a better UX is brilliant. Wish I had this years ago when trying to wrap my head around the shell.
Text doesn't convey as much information and the synchronous aspect makes it much more interesting.
We're a Mumble crew though but that's down to personal preference more than anything else.
Given that SPOF, one can't help but think of the IRA's threat to Margaret Thatcher : "[...] we only have to be lucky once – you will have to be lucky always."
Besides the context (and the legal aspect), they are the same act, homicide with intent. Their morality seem to be different depending who you ask.
And as for Libra being made illegal, I don't see what value it provides in EU to make it worth breaking the law.
Given your struggles to get a job and your very valuable experience, what's holding you back from going as a contractor / setting up your own shop?
Turns out, they can't deliver on this pretty universal feature (even Twitter has it), so huh yeah, let's talk about how great they are again.
I'm with Ulster Bank ROI (which is actually a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Scotland) and have had a fair share of minor issues with them. Their app also sucks big time.
They've had a major issue 6 months ago where a fair amount of folks were locked out of their accounts (or couldn't access the money, same same ultimately).
Friends at AIB have also had issues, like discrepancy between your online statement and the paper one, or getting their account straight up closed out of the blue.
I can't remember any specific with BOI but they also suck.
If you're in Ireland for long enough, do yourself a favour, get a Revolut / N26 account for your day to day, it's pretty smooth.
Yeah, that was a tough one to swallow, literally.
On one hand, in the online ads biz, Google is king and is happy to outsource its customer support for its most premium customers both large network of agencies and advertisers. I know it quite well, I was one of those guys for Doubleclick many moons ago. That is if you are big enough to be worthy of being a Google (DC) customer in the first place, which means, you have to be a large spender.
But on the other hand, if you sign up for their Google Cloud thing despite being a nobody (me again), you'll have their sales folks hounding you for an upsell, mostly because GCloud is ridiculously behind both AWS and Azure.
Funny how it goes.
