lapama··on ChatGPT and other AI tools could disrupt scientific publishing
Today I wrote a budget description for a scientific proposal that an AI would not be able to match. The reason? My knowledge of the social context.

lapama··on Sweden brings more books and handwriting practice back to its tech-heavy schools
I am a scientist and over the last years I stopped using notebooks for notes... I lost something, you connect deeper with your thoughts by writing with hand. Now I occasionally use A3 papers when I see need, but still. I will take a notebook tomorrow!

What about that strage propulsion system announced by caltech a few years back? Sorry really I have no more knowledge.
lapama··on Where did our belief in abundance come from?
Both comments indirectly highlight a point: we know little about the behavioural economics of scarcity.
lapama··on A proto-pizza emerges from a fresco on a Pompeii wall

lapama··on Inside the Wuhan lab weeks before Covid
Gain of risk
lapama··on A birder's quest to see 10k species
Given the increasing difficulty of finding/seeing new species, at some point it will become 10 or 100 times more costly in time/money to see each new bird.

lapama··on A new class of tiny, self-propelled robots that can zip through liquid at speed
Next they will fly and cut your hear, in their most civil application.

Post Scriptum: I apologise if for some reason the above joke is found out of order.

lapama··on Germany falls into recession as inflation hits economy
I felt it coming... as a migrant, a couple of weeks ago I felt people started to look at me differently.
lapama··on Fermented coffee’s fruity aromas [video]
As an anecdote I would have never expected, English Breakfast tea standards are the poorest: broken leaves that fall apart while producing finer sorts.
lapama··on The bill of materials for the Apple headset leaked
When I read metaverse I see meta-depression, as it would have a massive mental health toll. Or how could this issue even be prevented?
lapama··on Fermented coffee’s fruity aromas [video]
I am impressed by how much the general population is driven by supply, instead of finding their way to quality, when it comes to coffee.

Those fees seem well below where I publish.
lapama··on Show HN: Build GPT-powered apps with just GPT4 prompting
Could you use this to build simulated human relations and decisions, say, like in an agent-based model?
lapama··on Do looks matter for an academic career in economics?
Does contentiousness relate to intelligence (as in having your own opinion?) or to stubbornness (as in not changing your opinion)?
lapama··on Do looks matter for an academic career in economics?
Do you mean a more motivated economist or a better economist?
lapama··on Do looks matter for an academic career in economics?
