lannisterstark··on Indiana police are seizing FedEx packages containing cash
Do you? Because money IS flying around in trucks. How do you think stores and banks get the money for their safes? Magic?
lannisterstark··on Google Illuminate: Books and papers turned into audio
>don't emulate small talk and quirky side jabs. It's pathetic.

>all I can feel is sadness and how cringe it is.

Hm, really? I came to the opposite conclusion. I explained this to a friend who can see very little, and usually relies on audio to experience a lot of the world and written content - it is especially hard because a lot of written content isn't available in audio form or isn't talked about it.

He was pretty excited about it, and so am I. Maybe it's not the use case for you, and that's fine, but going "this is pathetic, no one is using it, le cringe" is a bit far.

lannisterstark··on Home Assistant Presence Simulation
Idle wall draw is approx 4W, average is approx 15W under load. Hovers around 10-24 mostly tbf. These are mostly i5-xxxxT CPUs. They have TDP of 35W.

And honestly, if you're in many states of the US - power's consumption is not necessarily an issue. Electricity is dirt cheap in the States, but I see your point.

lannisterstark··on Japan was the future but it's stuck in the past (2023)
Hm. Good points. Maybe I misread their intention.
lannisterstark··on Home Assistant Presence Simulation
Honestly, to be fair, You can buy two more powerful 1L dell optiplexes or HP prodesks for this cost. i5-7/8xxx with 8G/16G ram often go for $40-50 on eBay.

Install proxmox and HAOS and you can use the rest for other stuff.

>us is the strongest in arm not civil

the US economy is one of the (if not the, depending on who you ask) strongest economy in the world - and we're not talking military economy.

To pretend otherwise is simply naive. Mississippi, the poorest US state, has both higher GDP Per Capita and GDP PPP Per Capita than most of Europe, much less the world.

I can type up a bunch of words on here too, doesn't mean anything.

so I'm going to call out a /r/thathappened here.

lannisterstark··on Anthropic's Prompt Engineering Interactive Tutorial
Really? A lot of the "wow so censored, look I broke it" people on reddit just want LLMs to say slurs.

Claude (and GPT-4o) works fine for an overwhelming majority of tasks.

lannisterstark··on Daily marijuana use linked to increased risk of deadly head and neck cancers
>It’s hard for you to support that assertion,

What assertion, that you should drive sober? It is literally the only statement I've made in that comment.

So you shouldn't drive sober and there's not any research done to support that claim? lol.

lannisterstark··on Daily marijuana use linked to increased risk of deadly head and neck cancers
>compared to alcohol

Yeah we're not comparing it to driving under the influence of alcohol, we're comparing it to driving sober - as you should.

lannisterstark··on In ‘The Book Against Death,’ Elias Canetti rants against mortality
>it's called Excession, and it is even better than you imagine.

I'd advise not startin with Excession but with Player of Games. Read from there. You'll get to Excession on time with plenty of background knowledge of how stuff works.

Reading Excession as book 1 will leave you ultra confused.

lannisterstark··on Hundred Rabbits is a small collective exploring the failability of modern tech
The problem is that none of their problems are real problems and there's nothing to minimize when they're not real. You cannot minimize made up first world problems

lannisterstark··on G1 AR Glasses
Eh, smartwatches are actually useful though - while I don't use them a lot for "phone replacement," I do use them for a lot of things they do really well, namely checking the time(lol), as well as health tracking. My watch constantly tracks my heart rate, any variations in it, as well as a bunch of other data, including sleep.

I don't need to manually adjust workouts, runs, or walks either. When I work out, it is decently accurate in tracking those too.

the other day it actually woke me up because my heart rate had dropped dangerously low. So, useful there.

Other than these, a lot of "doing stuff on watch" has been replaced by the RayBan Meta smartglasses for me tbf.

lannisterstark··on Disqualified (1954)
>options in between

Except in this case, there are not. Context is important. We're discussing this particular planet, and I gave you examples that would be equivalent.

lannisterstark··on Disqualified (1954)
> usian

Indian, and the term is "American." We're speaking English - in English we have two separate continents, North and South America, or just "Americas."

Further, no other nation state uses the term "America" in its name. So when people say "American," they mean the USA, not Peru.

So, unless you want to speak Spanish (more than happy to), or Peru changes its name to American Republic of Peru, it's American, not "usian"

>kinda telling

why would I know every single oppressed group. Kinda telling that this is your reaction and kinda telling on your political leanings too when you can't give any other reasonable objections. (See, I can do this too lol - it's a dumb argument).

lannisterstark··on Disqualified (1954)
Does it?

Imagine Taliban with their treatment of women, queer people, freedom advocates, and dissenters. Or Imagine DPRK. Now with an entire planet's worth of control.

Would you willingly give them technology so they can oppress their own people better?

lannisterstark··on Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with the U.S., allowing him to go free
Yet.

Not to mention you sidestepped the entire conversation. It sucks for their own people. Their own govt is their enemy - we should be standing next to them, not going "oh yeah you're oppressors of your own people but in my book you're cool because I dislike my own country/Israel/West" or whatever the new excuse is.

Good point, I may have misread part of what you said.

You can find ex-corporate dell optiplexes or hp prodesks for like $40 for i5-7/8xxx on eBay in the US. They're fantastic.

>professionally annoy people on street

>Provoke a response

They mostly do it to cops and people in authority. It's their right to do so, they should be able to. They expose so many cops and authoritarians who blatantly do not respect citizens' civil rights. Good for them.

The fact that "oh no you're annoying me I'm going to arrest you because you're annoying" is even a talking point from you is baffling.

lannisterstark··on Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with the U.S., allowing him to go free
They'll be your enemies if you're the "wrong" kind of person as soon as you step on their soil.

Hope it helps, because it doesn't to millions of people living in their regimes. Authoritarianism apologia is wild.

lannisterstark··on I Received an AI Email
In an optimistic POV of this, eh, why not?

if models handle my day to day minutia so I have more time, why the hell not...

(I know this is very optimistic POV and not realistic but still)

lannisterstark··on Supreme Court rules ex-presidents have immunity for official acts
That's not a defense though - because of qualified immunity, cops get to be rampant authoritarians with 0 recourse for most people.
lannisterstark··on Supreme Court rules ex-presidents have immunity for official acts
Except he committed those crimes. There's nothing wrong with punishing people for crimes they committed, especially when entrusted with so much.

lannisterstark··on Aphantasia: I can not picture things in my mind
You have to realize that it's you who is the oddball, not the rest of us.

It's not useless information - I get to track what I ate when, I get to figure out the recipe if I like something etc etc. Imagine going "What you had for breakfast is useful information" as if your brain isn't already full of useless information.

> at least until their brain fills up.

(X) That's not how it works.

>If I don't, it's gone.

As I said, for the rest of us, it isn't an issue. We just remember. You don't - so you just go "it's useless information." It's not for us.
