lackoftactics··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
I got restricted on X for making fun of Matt Pocock ai methods like GRILL ME while having verified account and paying subscription. It's back to normal, but it was demotivating experience and I stopped caring about X
lackoftactics··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
My best guess was that video would be the last frontier, but I think I was naive about that too. The amount of content we’re producing right now and the changes coming to YouTube (allowing A/B testing of video edits). For example plan is to test multiple intros to retain the audience, might offer a glimpse into the endgame.
lackoftactics··on What About Rails?
You're fucking rails programmer. You're the best of of the best. This is goddman Top Gun I'm looking at here -- DHH, Rails World 2026 opening keynote, moments before calling everyone loser
lackoftactics··on Topcoat is pushing the boundary of server applications with Rust
I really like the direction Topcoat is going in as a Rails developer. Although it is just a bit itchy to my eyes, it is not acid-level, though.

The things that look great are LiveView and getting rid of boilerplate for client-side reactivity

lackoftactics··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
When I started as rails dev in 2013, it was really the top solution for producing MVP fast. Now, I don’t think that’s the case and most of the incentives are gone if we are no longer writing code by hand
lackoftactics··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
also worth noting that hotwire is dead according to DHH in this talk. The rendering html server side is old way now
lackoftactics··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
that's a killer name
lackoftactics··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
it's funeral of Ruby on Rails
lackoftactics··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I don't know if it counts as a project, but I just posted my first YouTube video yesterday after spending 100 hours learning about cameras, audio, and video editing in Final Cut Pro. I just want to share my thoughts on programming and tech in general, and doing that on a blog has become much harder nowadays because trust in written content has been lost.

lackoftactics··on Logo Programming
tbh, sounds like a made-up term coined by someone who could go on and on
lackoftactics··on Ask HN: Can we please limit the AI news flood?
Yep, HN loves/loved Ruby :)
lackoftactics··on Logo Programming Language
same problem, it wasn't exaclty the best experience with first programming language
lackoftactics··on Logo Programming
I didn't win logo programming competition in polish equivalent of 7th grade and I am still salty about it
lackoftactics··on RTK reports token savings, but our cost benchmarks disagree
I wrote article about it couple months ago that I didn't believe it works. Nice to see numbers now

lackoftactics··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
the tricky part about React Native is that you almost always need to use it with expo.

I developed React native app for ios as side project and took breaks often and came back to have to do big updates with expo to make it work again. Maybe there is smoother process, but this was annoying

lackoftactics··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
I believe this will be overall trend in industry. Dropping React Native and Flutter for native
lackoftactics··on One decision put Ruby into a downward spiral. It's not too late to fix it
there are more issues currently than ViewComponent and I am planning to do video essay (not very technical one) on future of rails.

Overall, interesting read, although very heavy on bullet points

lackoftactics··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
are we really moving the goalpost after solving Millenium Prize Problem? Six years ago that would be something, but today let's move the goalpost
lackoftactics··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
hmm, maybe not sentiments, running commands can produce binary results to reinforce, but that's also speculation
lackoftactics··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
do you even needs thumbs up? I've been long suspecting that code models get better because they use our data and our results from feedback, status codes, green tests for reinforcement learning
lackoftactics··on Watch Los Angeles get built, one building at a time (1880–2026)
Pretty great day for HN. You can’t just shut off people anymore with „machine did it, not you” as we live in new reality. Comments below make even more sound argument, for data viz we probably don’t need novel problem solving, just people interested to see viz
lackoftactics··on GPT-6 Astra
That’s grim that it was it first idea, but I guess if you have whole internet knowledge at it’s finger tips
lackoftactics··on GPT-6 Astra
that's what I call true creativity AI can't replace
lackoftactics··on Go grandmaster Shin defeats AI KataGo with a two-stone handicap
I read it wrong, I really hoped that he gave AI a handicap :)
lackoftactics··on GPT-6 Astra
Good take, I think his view is a bit simplistic. Also he also have a huge ego

"I am the best economist in UK!"

lackoftactics··on GPT-6 Astra
Gary Economics wants to have a word with you.

It would be fun to get to post-work society, but hard to imagine atm. TPTB won't let it happen

lackoftactics··on GPT-6 Astra
I have some fond memories from my celeron days :) But I was upgrading from AMD K5 100 MHz
lackoftactics··on Dwarf Fortress' creator says the industry's in shambles over AI
This seems to extend even beyond the arts. I would say that the race to add more features to web and mobile apps will face a similar obstacle.

How long can we continue making 10x more features just because we can, until somebody realizes that users do not have the attention to spend on them? There might be a shift, but currently, we are too focused on pleasing shareholders.

lackoftactics··on I trained a small transformer in 1.5hrs and it beats many LLMs
Sounds like a good day to be you, top 5 on Kaggle with a publication like this. It seems like you will be on a plane to SF shortly
lackoftactics··on Coding expertise is going to collapse from AI reliance
I think this is one of the most popular patterns seen nowadays. We approach problems that we didn't before because they were absurdly stupid and touched so many places that it seemed risky, hacky, costed too much time. It would be nice to go back to simpler problem solving and saying no to things that extend team skills
