Wanted, ADHD devs because... they can... focus more?

Is this a joke?

lIIllIIllIIllII··on Can LLMs learn from a single example?
The original article mentioned LLMs needing powerful abstractions

this is basically the case with transformer networks, which is apparent when learning from scratch. The model seems to be going basically nowhere and totally useless until suddenly, at some random point after a bunch of learning cycles the weights find some minimum on the error surface and bam, suddenly the model can do things properly. And it's because the transformer has learned an abstraction that works for all of the input data in an attentional sense (think how you scan a sentence when reading). Not the best explanation but its from memory from a post I saw on HN a while back

I'm routinely using LLMs in place of search engines. Would you rather type in a cocktail and instantly get a recipe? or do you want to open google, scroll past 50 ads, click through a bunch of blogspam that gives you the history of cocktails, the prohibition, the chemical formula for ethanol and their life story, followed by a recipe that was itself generated by a substandard AI model anyway

edit: I'm prepared for the enshittification of GenAI, but given competitive edge, many people will pay top $ for faster/higher parameter inference, I'm hoping ad support is minimal on the super deluxe god tier AI subscription which I'll have to pile all of my spare cash into.

There's a bunch research indicating that shame is not really a useful tool. Correlation with depressive symptoms etc. Hopefully anyone with kids should have realised that making e.g. toilet training more stressful, surprise surprise, is completely counter-productive, but who knows.

If the kid knows that they're not supposed to do something, that's enough - they experience their own internal feeling of failure strongly. I've found that the opposite is usually true, that kids never understand that learning things always involves failing a bunch of times, which is the imore important meta-lesson

Flipside, if they don't care about doing something wrong and you shame them, in my experience they often simply don't give a fuck. Maybe that's my own genetics though. Admonishment and punishment is more useful.

lIIllIIllIIllII··on When did people stop being drunk all the time?
People don't know how to work remotely. It's still kind of a new concept in the mainstream after all.

You need to make social engagements during the day with friends. Otherwise it's lonely and isolating. as a nice plus, seeing your actual friends is much nicer than seeing your workplace "friends" who'd likely sell you out for half a dollar.

Go grab lunch at a pub, coffee, do some exercise or whatever.

lIIllIIllIIllII··on Deutsche Bank's “dysfunctional” IT division (2018)
there are a whole array of "neobanks" in Australia, a few of which have been bought out by large incumbents and their IT platforms subsumed into the colossus or whatever.

I can hazard a guess why this hasn't happened in Germany but I don't want to make assumptions based on stereotypes, lol.

I actually prefer writing little JS apps to do stuff like this to using Excel.

Which I don't even have on my personal computer now that I think about it.

It's pretty textbook behaviour for narcissistic manipulators.

Harm the victim in some way, when victim complains about it, turn it around so as to frame it as the victim doing the wrong thing all along, and the victim should feel like a bad person.
