l33t2328··on We’re mostly living better than our parents
I’m confused about what your paragraph about people wanting fuck college students has to do with the price of college.
l33t2328··on Generating Children’s Stories Using GPT-3 and DALL·E
I really thought HN was safe from people blaming “the internet” for school shootings
l33t2328··on Generating Children’s Stories Using GPT-3 and DALL·E
I’m curious why you mention Musk. He’s neither the first nor the most insightful critic of AI’s long term impact.
l33t2328··on Show HN: I stripped DALL·E Mini to its bare essentials and converted it to Torch
That’s annoying
l33t2328··on Leetcode Considered Harmful

l33t2328··on NeRF: An eventual successor for deepfakes?
Well…yeah. If you don’t trust anything you can’t know very much.
l33t2328··on Meta is inviting researchers to pick apart the flaws in its version of GPT-3
I have already generated fake news-esque things with gpt-3 to send to friends.

A lot of the outputs look incredibly genuine. We live in interesting times.

l33t2328··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
Laws are the result of politics. I think it doesn’t make sense to say you can interpret/reason about laws in a non political way.
l33t2328··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
> scientific fact

“Science”(whatever that means) doesn’t really weigh in on what “personhood” is.

l33t2328··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
> Then what about miscarriage?

This argument has always struck me as odd. A miscarriage is, for lack of a better word, a random natural event. People die from random natural events all the time.

l33t2328··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
Their stance is that abortion is killing babies. If that’s what you believe, it’s easier to get out of bed to stop baby murder than to help make child care more affordable.
l33t2328··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
No pro-lifers think infants deserve no societal protection.

I’ve never heard this stance put forward.

l33t2328··on Italian watchdog bans use of Google Analytics
Can the government own a BMW bus?
l33t2328··on Sleeping longer than 6.5 hours/day can help you lose weight: study
I don’t think gp means that they are happy to work until that late, I think they mean that they regularly use their phone for non work communication that late because they spend their day at work.
l33t2328··on Sleeping longer than 6.5 hours/day can help you lose weight: study
A “dieter” mindset rarely leads to sustained weight loss because they rarely last 3 years.

Too many people go on a diet when they should really be changing their diet.

l33t2328··on FDA to order Juul e-cigarettes off U.S. market
Basic human decency to ask another culture to change its language on behalf of some abstract group that may have members with hurt feelings?
l33t2328··on One-night stands will be illegal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
I think so.
l33t2328··on One-night stands will be illegal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
Why on earth do some people think it’s okay to include USA with countries like Qatar?

USA isn’t perfect, but being gay isn’t punishable by jail time here.

l33t2328··on The $10m OMG Fund
Have you been traveling around Europe for fun? If so, have you been working? If not, how much did you have stayed up before you started?

My friends and I are in the early stages of planning a back packing trip.

l33t2328··on Editing Means Writing Less
It’s unclear to me what is the benefit of presenting the information like this.
l33t2328··on Meta VR prototypes aim to make VR 'indistinguishable from reality'
My form is fine, it’s just that swinging as hard as you can i to air many times is going to take its toll.
l33t2328··on Meta VR prototypes aim to make VR 'indistinguishable from reality'
Sure you don’t need to defend it but you should be able to.
l33t2328··on Meta VR prototypes aim to make VR 'indistinguishable from reality'
Thrill of the fight is an amazing game for that. I’ve collapsed in a pile of sweat after a decently short time.

Expect to have sore shoulders/back after throwing a few thousand air punches as hard as you can.

l33t2328··on No-one knows what they are doing
Why did you choose him in particular? Do you believe him to be the most capable politician today?
l33t2328··on Consciousness is not computation
If you show me a TM with an infinite length memory tape I’ll accept that.
l33t2328··on “Google” programmers. How one idiot hired a couple more idiots
> they did something unrelated that gave us no choice but to fire them

Out of curiosity(from lack of experience working for a company), what are some things that lead to this situation?

l33t2328··on The computers are fast, but you don't know it
> Things which takes minutes in optimized C++ will probably take days in Python, even if I use the "accelerated" libraries for matrix operations and other math

I’m gonna need an example because I do not believe this whatsoever.

l33t2328··on The computers are fast, but you don't know it
I don’t think you can generally control the cache with such granularity since modern processors do all sorts of instruction level parallelism and cache coherency voodoo
l33t2328··on Senator Warren proposes sweeping ban on location and health data sales
HN is generally very hostile to the idea that many people want their data collected, or at least don’t care much at all.
l33t2328··on Hinge and Its Implementation of the Gale–Shapley algorithm
Of course it’s politically correct to say certain races have certain physical characteristics.

That's how we identify race to begin with.
