l-lousy··on Fewer young men are in the labor force, more are living at home
I think this would somewhat validate his “prepared for life” argument because if they have a lot of money they can provide for themselves (food and transport is pretty easy with the gig economy).

(The previous comment used to include something about people wanting to quit their jobs and just play games all day) For your point about playing games all day — there’s definitely some aspect of “having a purpose” that makes some hold down a job even if they are already rich. So for some it’s definitely their life dream to sit in their room all day, and for some having something that you can point to saying “I contributed this” is an invaluable part of their lives

l-lousy··on Apple sued for terminating account with $25k worth of apps and videos
Change it to “rent” or give the option to download. You can’t have a contract where the terms change at any time for any reason (apples account termination policy)
l-lousy··on Apple sued for terminating account with $25k worth of apps and videos
I think the main problem is that because the conditions of the rental are not known at the time that you make a purchase (accounts can be terminated at any time for any reason) you can’t call it rental or buying really.
l-lousy··on The looming software kill-switch lurking in aging Playstation hardware
Would it really be that costly for Sony to keep whatever NTP-esque server they have running? Sure, shut down the storefront, but an endpoint to check the time must cost peanuts for them to run....
l-lousy··on Is Netflix's Seaspiracy film right about fishing damaging oceans?
Naming - because the same guy also made cowspiracy.

Quality - I would say it was pretty illuminating on a lot of issues that almost nobody here will get to see first hand.

Would the new discovery for catalans number be considered a counter to:

> nothing considered remotely new by an expert

Or is the proof mentioned at the end of the article the proof for Catalans number (sorry, I’m a non mathematician)

l-lousy··on No support Linux hosting shutting down from hack
“Why did it take you so long to answer my question” , “I just wanted a quick answer why are you charging me for 20 minutes of support”. Human time spent on support is not as cut and dry as hosting resources used, so I imagine it’s easier to not have that discussion. Also 5$ would be like 15 mins of any qualified persons time, so really you’re not paying much.

l-lousy··on 23andMe to merge with VG Acquisition Corp. to become publicly-traded company
23andMe gets to IPO immediately without having to go through a lot of the regulatory work that would normally happen in a direct listing because the SPAC acquiring them is already public. This means they can get a good percentage of the normal cash infusion with half the hassle.

Those creating the SPAC get a discounted price on the stock they eventually take public, but for the bill via increased risk they might not get a good company.
