kymaz··on This resume got me an interview
Which I don't know, that seems kinda silly, like, how are you going to be able to tell a good resume from a bad resume if you lack the domain specific knowledge to determine that in the first place?
kymaz··on Helium: South Africa strikes new 'gold'
It is currently cheap, but if it's all bled off into space through party balloons and we run low, it's not gonna be cheap any more.

With this news I guess it's not as precious as it was last month...

kymaz··on The Amish have negotiated a pact with modernity (2018)
That and getting shot.
kymaz··on How Debian cron handles DST transitions
You also depend on cron never having a bug, and you also depend on crons working as intended, unless you also have some extra system logging your cron jobs.
kymaz··on How Debian cron handles DST transitions
So the fix to using UTC for computers and crons that only care about the local time zone is to reimplement time checking?

If youre just gonna run it every hour, you might as well while(1){ check time; do stuff; sleep 1 hour;} now there's one less dependency?

kymaz··on Wikivoyage has disappeared from DuckDuckGo
If you tell people they're missing out on valuable information and they understand the implications, I'm sure they'll start caring.

BRB gonna stare at the sky and check that the stars are still moving as expected :p

Except a new internet directory probably wouldn't be very useful without some kind of search. If those old directories were big enough and didn't have a search worth using, the directory wasn't very useful.

If you need to develop one to have the other....

kymaz··on Blue light from monitors no danger to eyes or sleep
I never realized just how blue many computer screens were until I got my first calibrator along with a new panel. In general these days I target all my screens to around 6500 kelvin/D65, screens could be easily be 9300 kelvin out of the box.

You get used to these color casts, but bright screens with blue casts do seem to cause more eye strain... unless you just turn the screens brightness down? like, to around the sRGB spec screen luminance level?

kymaz··on Firefox Now Sends Your Address Bar Keystrokes to Mozilla
> It wasn't until the OS started alerting the user to this clipboard read that it started to look very suspicious.

Maybe sprinkle in a bit of users didn't consider it suspicious until it was reported that some apps were abusing the privilege.

kymaz··on Firefox Suggest (address bar based ads, currently limited to US)
Right, but I'm also an end user, so that's the part I care about first.

A phoenix is born from the ashes of its past. Mozilla the browser was considered bloated by some and that led to a cleaner browser, a firebird if you will. This is just another indicator we're past due for another cycle of fire.
kymaz··on Apple Will Not Reinstate Epic’s Fortnite Developer Account
Using flash cc several years before EOL, it just wasn't a particularly consistent environment to develop in regardless of target device, and if you wanted to make ipad apps you ran into lots of limitations on what you could actually do with a release build, not sure if flash ever got the opportunity to use runtime interpreted actionscript 3 on release builds for iOS... that would have been nice to have.
kymaz··on Mozilla has defeated Microsoft’s default browser protections in Windows
Which feels quite amateurish and thus ridiculous for Microsoft. Like, they invent a new app store in Windows 10 and they still can't even be bothered to implement a working update routine that isn't infuriating to end users?
kymaz··on POW Captcha: a lightweight, self-hosted proof-of-work captcha
If in the future all bitcoin-like currency transactions have to be reported for tax purposes, and there's all these micropayments, wouldn't that effectively make your browser history part of a tax audit?
kymaz··on How PCI-Express works (2020)
It's trivial to take a rotary tool to a piece of plastic, but now you have plastic dust and shavings all over the place. like on the PCIE contacts.

You could also use a razor blade or other such manual cutting devices...

kymaz··on Reddit seeks to hire advisers for U.S. IPO – sources
given that "haha jit go brrrrr" I would presume they do. Why wouldn't they?
