kylehotchkiss··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
Glad I got received my M5 ultra studio already, I smell a price increase coming.
kylehotchkiss··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
o__O my url bar doesn’t currently say Reddit? This argument feels red pilled and not curious nor productive. Women have plenty of valid frustrations with the dating pool. I don’t live in SF but the last woman whom I talked to there told me many of y’all just have mattresses on the floor and like no bed frame. There are places to improve fellas

Yeah, dating apps are problematic. No, nobody here is going to fix that with another stupid app. But I think a lot of these “meet with a group of strangers at dinner” biz concepts are cool and gonna try some soon.

kylehotchkiss··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
Tell her that again man, I'm sure it warms her heart
kylehotchkiss··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
The euro bashing will stop when the pointing noses down at USA for being uncultured or unrefined or whatever stops.
kylehotchkiss··on Theranos founder reportedly to be transferred to halfway home next year
Looking forward to the eventual Holmes-SBF collab on a startup/cooking show/rap song.
kylehotchkiss··on Rising sea destroys homes, erases beaches in California
It also almost washed out the San Clemente track. Which re-opened in 3 days despite having waves crash over it.
kylehotchkiss··on Goodbye Google
respect for choosing your faith over your work man! I'm trying to find the intersection of my faith and the new tech too. Feel free to email if you ever wanna chat it out.
kylehotchkiss··on Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second
I felt happy I could run it at 100tk/s on my new Mac Studio :')
kylehotchkiss··on Do not fear AI. Fear AI companies
This feels low effort by HN standards. Nothing wrong with the sentiment, but no domain name? Pretty superficial call to action? Gotta argue harder for what you think we lost, cite some news sources etc.
kylehotchkiss··on Fable 5 – Median thinking declined in August
I'm always excited about running local models at home. This is one of the reasons. I pull it down from hugging face, and it continues to work at the same level of performance indefinitely.
kylehotchkiss··on OpenJev
Anecdotal: LLMs like the hallucinate things and did a poor job of determining when to leave things null/blank. A more structured approach with confidence ratings helps resolve.
kylehotchkiss··on Reverse-engineered Jev-like model
Anecdotally qwen2.5-14b runs a lot faster on my mini than the small 3 models ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
kylehotchkiss··on Hugging Face is billing OpenAI $100M for hacking it
Falling asleep thinking about corporate litigation sounds tough man :’( wishing you more blissful bedtime thoughts tonight
kylehotchkiss··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
Cells have machinery for removing worn out proteins (tag em with ubiquitin and send them to incinerator [lysomes]). Doesn't surprise me too much a useful mutation (this folding is wrong detector) could work its way in.
kylehotchkiss··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
"While Jev gives up string generation, it’s optimized for structured outputs and can’t hallucinate"

Ouh! Any open weights models that can do this yet?? If not, how much longer? I have a Mac Studio coming soon.

kylehotchkiss··on For AI leaders Doom is a form of hype
This narrative is gonna result in the feds installing electrical kill switches on datacenters. I wouldn’t take the business risk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My biggest fear with AI is that they’re going to hack into antiquated bank architecture and empty out accounts.

kylehotchkiss··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
My many successful brightdata calls say ACTUALLY TRUE :D
kylehotchkiss··on Trey Parker and Matt Stone Are Changing the Name of South Park to South America
You forgot the Emmy winning lovemaking scene between POTUS and VPOTUS
kylehotchkiss··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
Well, at least our adversaries know how to completely deadlock US productivity now.
kylehotchkiss··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
Same ruling class that goes on a bunch of tangents about birth rates stops immigrant visa processing for US citizens who married abroad.
kylehotchkiss··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
I realize it's not a 512, but for context on why I ordered a 96GB. $95/month after a trade in. I'll use it for a long term project where I'm building a national sized dataset/processing video transcripts with a rubric (of churches/sermon health). I'm willing to trade SOTA models for local ones for cost of regenerating/model consistency/ethical reasons.

I'll find other ways to use the power though, opencode or maybe start working on more video projects.

kylehotchkiss··on Apple Introduces New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Insta-leased. I’ve ran over 1 million prompts on ollama to determine “is X website”. I’m ready to use use bigger models locally to do more thinking now. I have zero desire to give Dario anymore than $20 a month after his “you all are gonna be mass unemployed” spiel.
kylehotchkiss··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Oh yeah. Throw it behind tailscale. Herdr multiplexer in terminal is cool, it’ll remember your session if you open it in ssh from the neo
kylehotchkiss··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
I often think of how much of government lethargy to climate change is because of miserable marketing like Greta thunburg yelling at a bunch of old EU bureaucrats or teenagers throwing paint at art or glueing themselves to highways.

There was too few “there are green technologies superior to the carbon based ones” (heat pumps got really good).

Well, there are two problem spaces - innovating ways to reduce emissions AND inventing new ways to help people cope with rising temperatures - and I hear very little about the second one despite the immediate humanitarian need for it

kylehotchkiss··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Today in manufacturing: I saw one time use mouthwashes at target (ugh). Made in china. We can’t make overpriced pouches or mouthwash here
kylehotchkiss··on 'Ghost job' ads are getting so bad that lawmakers want to ban them
I'm sure some ambulance chasing lawyer types will make quick work of the problem
kylehotchkiss··on 'Ghost Job' Ads Are Getting So Bad That Lawmakers Want to Ban Them
Instead of wanting to, why not just do it? This is a bipartisan win.
kylehotchkiss··on Being Against LLMs Is Against the Spirit of Floss
A model that doesn't change under your feet every few weeks. Great if you need to consistently process small data tasks over the course of months.
kylehotchkiss··on Mars Bar from 1991 found – and it's 20g bigger than today's
More newsworthy than most of the garbage Fox News is slopping out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
