kvirani··on Icons in Menus Everywhere – Send Help
I do like how in some MacOS examples we see icons for some of the more important or commonly used menu items, but not the others in the same list. The absence of icons has meaning ("it's likely not what you want")

kvirani··on The past was not that cute
> I’ve noticed how fashionable it is in the US in particular, to distrust the government

No that's actually a sign of a third-world country. It's definitely shifting towards that in the US but is not as bad as Pakistan, for example. Yet.

kvirani··on Cloudflare outage on December 5, 2025
Security almost always brings inconvenience (to everyone involved, including end users). That is part of its cost.
kvirani··on Netflix’s AV1 Journey: From Android to TVs and Beyond
Top post without a single comment and only 29 points. Clearly my mental model of how posts bubble to the top is broken.
kvirani··on Instagram chief orders staff back to the office five days a week in 2026
Do you think that was a hiring manager specific preference or an overall HR policy thing? Shitty nonetheless.
kvirani··on Agent design is still hard
No desire because you don't need them to optimize anything for yourself, or ?
kvirani··on Google Antigravity
I think they are referring to public market investors vs private investors. Meaning, their stock valuation.
kvirani··on Google Antigravity
it's rare to see someone circle back with a retraction, even on HN. Kudos
kvirani··on I am stepping down as the CEO of Mastodon
I don't see his linked comment as blocking progress. Both of those questions are very valid and something I'd expect from a good core maintainer.

Disclaimer: I don't have any additional context.

kvirani··on Google Antigravity
Sometimes smart sometimes the opposite, though. Perhaps due to memory loss.
kvirani··on Google Antigravity
Can this additional prompt from you also be automated? I do this too but I forget sometimes. I don't know if a general rule will be enough ?
kvirani··on Firefox expands fingerprint protections
We just down know from the outside how much revenue they would lose by redirecting that effort though.
kvirani··on Study identifies weaknesses in how AI systems are evaluated
Curious why not the MCP? I use that
kvirani··on Study identifies weaknesses in how AI systems are evaluated
Fair question but I think the tone of this is a bit abrasive towards the poster, and unnecessarily so.
kvirani··on Gmail AI gets more intrusive
True but that is a function of ignorance too. There are plenty of good features in Gmail that are off by default, like undo / delayed send and keyboard shortcuts.
kvirani··on Tim Bray on Grokipedia
And the idea of it being controlled by any one entity makes it less interesting and less "good" when compared to Wikipedia
kvirani··on China has added forest the size of Texas since 1990
Great question. Let's indeed make it a point of discussion then. I'd like to know too.

kvirani··on ChatGPT Atlas
Yes
kvirani··on ChatGPT Atlas
Well said. Can't wait for the windows version so I can use it. Jk jk
kvirani··on Claude Skills are awesome, maybe a bigger deal than MCP
Wow. I hadn't thought of it like that but it resonates
kvirani··on Exploring PostgreSQL 18's new UUIDv7 support
Which I have to assume is rare, right?
kvirani··on Claude Skills
How does it call upon the correct skill from a vast library of skills at the right time? Is this where RAG via embeddings / vector search come in? My mental model is still weak in this area, I admit.
kvirani··on Why We Migrated from Neon to PlanetScale
Possibly silly question, and not specific to this DB offering, but why is it a good decision to connect to your DB over the Internet vs keeping it in the same data center as your db clients, given the network-latency based performance hit I believe it causes?
kvirani··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
Wait that's not how Cursor etc work? (I made assumptions)
kvirani··on GPT-5 vs. Sonnet: Complex Agentic Coding
Isn't it all heavily subsidized by VC money at this time?
kvirani··on Blip: Peer-to-peer massive file sharing
Haha
kvirani··on Show HN: Inkverse - An Indie comics platform
Nice to see an attempt at disrupting consolidated marketplaces.

My 2c: The open standard is great for creators in the long run but it doesn't solve their today problem: distribution. Creators won't leave predatory marketplaces despite higher costs because that's where they get distribution. The only way to truly convince established creators to consider Inkverse is by showing compelling readership numbers. It doesn't have to match the same number, but it should be in the top.

The more direct way to truly get viewers in today's internet is to buy them via ads.
