kvdr··on ARM and Lock-Free Programming
This is more about the way of doing lockless data operations than specific data structures - look up the RCU pattern, there are good CPP talks by Fedor Pikus on it.
kvdr··on Show HN: A bookmarking tool designed to help synthesize your web research
Love it! Thank you for creating this. Is there a way to add the bookmarklet to my toolbar instead of having it on the bookmarks toolbar which I keep hidden.

EDIT: Also can I get to my home page when I click on Klobie than clicking on my username? And can I tag bookmarks with topics under different boards?

kvdr··on Ask HN: Anyone from Google here? The new Gmail UI is painful
Also, the new (now a few months old) Google finance UI as well.

The charts are almost always broken, clicking on 1M will not show today's levels.

And earlier I could just put a /FB or /GOOG in the URL to get to that page instantly, now the URL is some 100s of long char string (sorry, I am from C/C++ world so dont know the exact terms for these)

Then there is the news events map to the chart, used to be cool to see what caused the dip/bump, but not there now..

I have since moved to Yahoo finance, but that has too much ads and autoplay videos.

kvdr··on Ask HN: What fragrance do you use?
Lots of them! Too many to count :(

Depends on what you going for, the non expensive stuff is usually not that great and doesn't last long or smell very crass.

Good resources to get more info - fragrantica and basenotes.

If you want to get into fragrances and try a few things, highly recommend r/fragsplits, where you can sample a lot of stuff for not much.

Personal favorites are from Dior Privee, Creed, Bond No. 9, Frederic Malle, Montale

kvdr··on Ask HN: Which VPS hosting do you use?
lowendbox.com is where I look for cheap experimental boxes.
kvdr··on Chats.io, new HTML5 / Node.JS-powered social group chat, launches
Can confirm this.
kvdr··on Twitter and Me
I interviewed with a company in San Jose for a job on Nov 16th last year. And guess when I got a answer back from them? Dec 23rd. Yep, that's right. And not like it was some big corporation or a shady company, its a legit publicly traded $2B up and coming firm. As an active job seeker, it has been a very frustrating past 4 months for me. People don't respond after phone interviews or after interviews. And yet if I make a single mistake I always keep thinking about if that costed me that opportunity. Sorry for the unrelated rant.
kvdr··on $$ Apple / HP laptop price comparison
Sigh. IMO one really really has to give up the thought that you are paying for the hardware when buying Apple products.
kvdr··on Ask HN: How are you changing the world with your startup?
A million upvotes for this.
kvdr··on Sleep is more important than food
Yep. Basically one sleep cycle is 90mins. So it just gives you 3-4 times based on minimum 2 cycles. Nothing fancy.
kvdr··on Ask HN: A data structures book
The latest book (4th edition) though a book in the same series is not exactly in the same vein as the earlier editions. It is toned down and uses Java. I would recommend the 3rd edition based on C or C++. If you are really new to data structures and algorithms then go with the 4th ed. otherwise the 3rd. Also check out Bruno Priess's book which tackles data structures with a lot of object-oriented concepts (can be a bit of academic overload).

My personal favorites are Sedgewick's C and Priess's C++ books and for algorithms, the Algorithm Design Manual.

kvdr··on Lunch with Sean Parker: on how he's coping with his new reputation
All of you thinking about this is such a long article with no meat, why he describes food so much, hold off a bit. This is THE format of the column, he does this every week with interesting people (mostly in showbiz), its just relevant to HN due to Sean Parker.
kvdr··on Working at Microsoft – Day to Day Coding
>> Great, but how about week-long hackathons where people can code on whatever they want? Showing the three-level branch hierarchy of your repository doesn't seem to tell me a great story about what it's like to be a dev at MS. Not because there's anything wrong with the branch structure; if you work at a place where coders are given a lot of liberty and freedom, there should be more interesting things to talk about.

I guess those can be counted as special cases and not pertaining to day-to-day working. The main point to gain from the post it seems is that its not a pain to work in such a complex environment. This is not some web or phone app, its a huge undertaking and how it works in a precise routine.

kvdr··on Ask HN: Moving away from GoDaddy - which registrar do you recommend?
Currently 1and1 is running a promo for $5 domains. They are pretty good generally. Nothing special though.

Would recommend eurodns or namecheap.

kvdr··on Why does Adobe Reader need so many updates?
Yep. Sumatra is great for snappy viewing. But do not print! What it does is convert whole pages in bitmaps and chokes the memory and the network.

I would strong recommend PDF-Xchange. I was a heavy Foxit user, but then it became bloated too and Sumatra lacks some features like highlighting and commenting.

kvdr··on Nice list of show HNs
Yes, that's what I was querying with, but the results link to HN threads while I wanted to look at actual sites/products.
kvdr··on Nice list of show HNs
Thanks. I did not know of searchyc.com, I was just looking to see if people had done what I was thinking of.
kvdr··on WebSocket whiteboard with chat
Can you spawn a new whiteboard when more than 40 users join?
kvdr··on Ask HN: Domain name for personal website
Honestly I don't care. I just want something easy to remember. About caring about other people's perception well I was concerned about potential employers, nothing major.
kvdr··on Ask HN: Domain name for personal website
Sadly none of them are available.
kvdr··on Motorola XOOM priced at $800
Everybody is getting hung up on the price of this device, which I admit is high, but a comparison to the iPad's price is not fair. As stated below, the closest iPad is $730. Also the hardware is a generation and a half ahead of the iPad. The iPad doesn't even have a camera, very basic need for any kind of video conferencing (Xoom comes with 2). Please see the comparison chart [1] for more details.

But yeah, having to buy the Xoom from a carrier and paying atleast one month of data plan rate before cancelling it is kinda ridiculous.

kvdr··on DropQuest 2011
Same, dont know what to do at that page.
