kurofune··on Five companies now control over 90% of the restaurant food delivery market
Is this surprising?

This is what our actual economic system is all about: a series of market oligopolies whose greed is unchecked by our political establishment and legal apparatus with the complicity of the voting masses. Any attempt to implement measures to palliate the social decay and corruption it breeds will be branded as chinese communism and opposed by the media and the public.

We have collectively decided that the economy shouldn't be in service of the people, canis canem edit.

kurofune··on Human coders are still better than LLMs
The fact that we are debating this topic at all is indicative of how far LLMs have come in such a short time. I find them incredibly useful tools that vastly enhance my productivity and curiosity, and I'm really grateful for them.
kurofune··on Wealthy Americans have death rates on par with poor Europeans
>Almost all of my friends with higher educations have left for northern countries, as the situation here is untenable for young people.

>Bottom of the barrel wages for natives are the result of uncontrolled mass migration - we have received millions of immigrants in the last decade, which has basically destroyed wages.

Putting those two sentences of yours together triggered that thought in my mind, I apologise if I was wrong.

kurofune··on Wealthy Americans have death rates on par with poor Europeans
Spain is one of the best places in the world to live if you have a steady income, you don't have to be wealthy to be happy. I've lived there for many years working for Spanish companies, with spanish salaries.

But seeing how you blame mass immigration, mostly uneducated and low-skilled workers, for the fall in wages of the educated people leaving the country, I wonder if your vision isn't too myopic and narrow on economic issues due to political bias.

As for the struggles of the young people in the country, because real state is inaccessible, I agree with you, but it's a problem in most capital cities of the civilised world.

kurofune··on Wealthy Americans have death rates on par with poor Europeans
Could be the "beautiful beef" we are not eating here in Europe.
kurofune··on What's Happening to Students?
I disagree. They are well aware of these issues as teenagers, especially now that they are affecting their parents' lives.
kurofune··on What's Happening to Students?
I live in a country where almost no one under 35 is able to purchase a house, no matter how educated you are. We live to pay the rent, the system is broken and we all know it, so we don't need to toil anymore; there is no incentive. As simple as that.
kurofune··on US Government Bans Export of Nvidia A100 and H100 GPUs to China and Russia
>On July 27th, Nancy & Paul Pelosi sold all 25,000 of their shares of Nvidia, $NVDA. Today $NVDA was told to restrict chip sales in China & Russia by the US Government on August 26. $NVDA is down 20% since their initial sale, -5% in after hours today.

kurofune··on IQ scores are falling and have been for decades (2018)
>The fact that you believe this only shows you to be gullible.

The fact that you choose to believe this only shows you how little you have been around them IRL. Keep finding solace inside your own narratives and consider yourself lucky, most of them are the dumbest bunch of crooks you could ever find.

kurofune··on IQ scores are falling and have been for decades (2018)
I would like to stress that "high achiever != intelligent".

And the choice to "walk away from this as best as you can and go about your life on your own terms" is mainly a money issue and not one defined or solved by intelligence.

kurofune··on IQ scores are falling and have been for decades (2018)
Who would struggle to be smart in a society that rewards idiocy and blind alignment to asinine political discourses, a society where the loudest opinion is the only one that matters. Enjoy the permanent state of frustration that being "smart" or "rational" will bring you.

Most politicians are exasperatingly dumb, most celebrities are witless mannequins and the richest man in the world is a simple minded moron that acts like a 16yo in the middle of a sugar rush. Don't blame the youth for not wanting to be "smart" when they can see that plenty of mediocre adult content creators can earn more in a week than your average office worker in a month and when their role models are dudes vlogging about getting rich gambling on JPG monkeys and shilling for crypto rug pulls.

kurofune··on Ask HN: Are there any good poverty simulator games?
Pathologic 2.
kurofune··on Why do you waste so much time on the internet?
>sometimes i wonder why do i waste so much of time on internet

I enjoy my time on the internet and I treasure it as a tool for reaching new intellectual heights but not in a straightforward fashion. I speak two languages more than my own native one thanks to the time "wasted" on the internet shitposting on imageboards & forums, watching JP vtuber clips and anime, playing CRPGs or MMORPGs, etc... and that's just the one quantifiable metric I can offer, cause to me it's pretty clear I would be a worse, less polished version of myself if I hadn't spend so much time on the internet running in circles.

>not even doing productive work >back to that unproductive and mindless pithole

What a tragic and servile mentality to think we are always meant to be productive to deserve enjoying our time on this Earth; guilt-tripping yourself back into the cog in the machine mindset to force yourself to become something you don't really want to be seems a terrible choice. That path will only lead to wearing you down, eroding your actual capability to be productive in the process.

PS: Try to improve your experience on the internet by constantly filtering your information sources until you find you stay here useful.

kurofune··on CDC warns of a steep decline in teen mental health
Are you sure you can't imagine why the terrible economic situation a family is living in could impact the mental health of a 13yo? We love problem solvers in this site.
kurofune··on CDC warns of a steep decline in teen mental health
Blaming it all on the pandemic is an absolutely hilarious misdiagnosis. Everything seems to be on the brink of collapse all the time, housing prices are absolutely bonkers in most cities and wages are, in the best scenario imaginable, same they were 20 years ago for your average professional who lives paycheck to paycheck. Politicians have no vision, they are just parasitic entities that benefit electorally from violent asinine confrontation between voters on pointless cultural issues that never find any satisfactory or permanent resolution. Mass media are fully immersed in a two decades long psychic war against the general public that only seems to be accelerating.

There are too many structural weakness in our society to point out without having to write a full essay, but this mental health decline is the direct result of our failing political and economic systems and our apparent impossibility to challenge them in any productive way.

kurofune··on Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.5
>For anyone interested: Ignore the negative reviews.

Most of the negative reviews are not only perfectly legitimate but address structural issues in the game not fixable with quality of life patches and the adding of a bunch of new weapons and cars, one year after the release of the game, which by the way were never lacking. This game has so much cut content that some quests feel like a demo version and main characters like Adam Smasher (a primary antagonist) behave like an afterthought with barely no presence, feeling as lifeless and predictable as the rest of Night City.

The excusable tragedy of Cyberpunk it's that it miserably fails to deliver in every different aspect it touches, excelling in none of the many ambitions it had. The unexcusable part is its unplayable console release, that felt like a borderline scam.

>It has a great and challenging story

Disco Elysium or Pathologic 2 have memorable stories; Cyberpunk is a painfully mediocre experience at best, in my opinion.

kurofune··on Apple's child protection features spark concern within its own ranks: sources
Randomly suggesting that every authoritarian decision taken unilaterally by an american company was made to please the evil chinese government while offering no substantial proof is not "criticizing the CCP", it is just shoehorning US's far-right talking points into a thread that has nothing to do with it.
kurofune··on Finland provides housing and counseling to the homeless (2020)
That also seemed to be the norm in northern Spain not so long ago, none of my grandparents (maternal/paternal side) locked their doors, even at night.
kurofune··on The invisible addiction: is it time to give up caffeine?
I prefer this harmless invisible "addiction" than what to me seems the inevitable consequence of a collective distancing from caffeine, the rise on alcohol consumption.

I can be a social drinker (of coffee) while my friends are drinking their beers, but I cannot fathom myself asking for a "juice" instead.

kurofune··on Audacity fork creator steps down. Claims his life is in danger
>This site is the most disgusting place in the whole world, and I think all the people that are active in /g/ should get put in jail and be ashamed of themselves for making the world a worse place than it already is. >They are cyber terrorists, not cringe cancel kiddos.

I sympathize with his case but this post seems a delusional, hyperbolic rant that will make his harassers target him with renewed fervor.

They are trying to get on his nerves, he should go to the police and stop seething on the internet cause he's giving them plenty of what they really want.

kurofune··on The Unlikely Survival of the 1,081 Year-Old Redwood El Palo Alto
That's a neat etymological fact I wasn't completely aware of, but in today's spanish "palo" doesn't mean "pole" nor "poste", it just means "stick".

I believe we are talking about two different things, because I'm only clarifying the current meaning of the word.

kurofune··on The Unlikely Survival of the 1,081 Year-Old Redwood El Palo Alto
Not really, "palo" means "stick" in spanish.

Pole = Poste.
