kuraudo··on It's hard to overstate what a scam academic and scientific publishing is
The cognitive dissonance your comment created reaped undeserved downvotes. It's a legitimate concern: massive amounts of money fund these ventures and massive amounts of money in turn get guaranteed to the concerns which funded the ventures. The efficacy of the procedure is irrelevant: this is clearly corruption at a massive scale with perverse incentives which guarantee it repeats itself.
kuraudo··on The Patriot Act Has Threatened Freedom for 20 Years
Still waiting on Saudi Arabia invasion (not that I believe that would be the proper answer either, but still).
kuraudo··on YouTube deletes rapper's 'Let's Go Brandon' song claiming medical misinformation
Try to understand as much as possible and make your call that way. Most of the scientific questions in this world don't require you to have an opinion (I don't much care which rocket fuel is better; I'll let others argue over that).

Covid and Climate Change are interesting because certain conclusions related to them have a direct impact on you and I. The ruling class would certainly like you to believe one conclusion over all the others and that conclusion might even be 'correct' in terms of being beneficial to you or humans as a whole, but asking people to believe that conclusion because of some 'consensus' is fraught with both logical and mortal peril as history has shown us time and time again.

kuraudo··on Ask HN: Is the Great Resignation in tech real? If so, why?
I think the american paradigm of "going out on your own" at 18 and not starting a family until you have had a career is what fuels this psychological damage. Immigrant types with big families seemed to not have this problem and are ok with whatever allows them full wfh. Myself, I never once lamented the lack of physical interaction in the office; it was a burden precisely because my full religious/family support group was always accessible even under maximum lockdown conditions.
kuraudo··on Arthritis drug that cost $198 in 2008 is now more than $10k
That's because, in a democracy, the incentives aren't to fix problems, but to create more so that you can continue to 'solve' them forever. This is exasperated by the obvious bribes that get flung around in the form of speech fees, employment after political career, and so on which give politicians, even ones ostensibly out to 'fix' your problem, perverse incentives to do the opposite in favor of a massive corporation.

I have heard that European Healthcare, especially in places like Denmark, is top notch and somehow free of this evil: I would love to know how they achieved this.

kuraudo··on Pay Transparency Is Coming
That's been my experience as well. I see zero value for phd's in my field. I'd rather train up a high school graduate: the high school graduate will take as long to train in most cases.
kuraudo··on Why doesn’t natural immunity count in the US?
Funnily enough, I am for vaccines just as I am for mandatory weight loss across the entire population. Banning all unhealthy activities is a given.
kuraudo··on Why doesn’t natural immunity count in the US?
I know of several people who purposefully went to get the virus in the early stages of 2020: I don't think your worry is very far off the mark at all.
kuraudo··on Why doesn’t natural immunity count in the US?
I think everyone should get the vaccine, but this is the kind of comment that births brand new skeptics.
kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
I'm in your camp: the problem is the people we rely on as experts are said to be lying/wrong/stupid/evil/devils/.etc by the people against the positions they hold.

How do you fight that kind of thing?

kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
Highly suspect: I heard that they count anyone without three jabs as "unvaccinated." that might not be israel and it might be two jabs, apologies on unreliability. I'm putting this out here because I hope someone can disprove or verify it.
kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
I believe everyone should be vaccinated but your point worries me. This doesn't seem 'right.' I don't believe in conspiracy theories of people pushing anti vaccination propaganda just to bring this state of affairs about as some are suggesting: that said, I don't want us to be in this place, but I also want everyone vaccinated so the vaccines can actually work and we can eradicate this thing.

I can't help but feel manipulated in this state.

kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
I take issue with this comparison: just because the prior 'experiments' have been failures does not mean that future efforts which utilize entirely different methods will be. The war on drugs was already highly criticized for its ineffectiveness on several accounts: there is definitely a way to eradicate the problem, but those were not it and even people at the time knew it.
kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
I'm not sure that's the case: the iceland, malta, and israel results (very highly vaccinated population) are worrying in the extreme; take a look and see if you agree that transmission might actually be worse. As to why that is, perhaps because they think they're not a spreader? Are we actually typhoid mary/joe when we go out thinking that we're not putting people at risk? I think this means wearing masks for the entire population is a good idea.

Either way, everyone should get the vaccine for the health benefit when they actually acquire covid (when not if). The better outcomes are without question, but what is questionable is the rate of spread, especially of delta and the new... is it called lambda(?) variant.

We need to be honest about this: the benefit of the vaccine is clear due to the milder outcomes across even low risk groups. That itself makes it worth it.

kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
That's not true: people in the peanut gallery can be swayed. sub-midwits like myself only form opinions based on what smarter people have convinced us about areas we're not experts on.
kuraudo··on England vaccine passport plans ditched, health secretary says
Well said, but I think the problem we're fighting is that people don't view these as vaccines so much as preventive treatment now. The Israel, Malta, and Iceland cases with very high vaccination rates and growing number of hospitalizations means we need to acknowledge that these things don't confer immunity, but that their benefit is still tangible and real in that it confers better outcomes to those that do contract the disease.
kuraudo··on The Forever Trial at Guantanamo
This is the lie that the intelligence community uses to perpetuate its drug running, assassinations, and general evil that it commits on a daily basis.
kuraudo··on The Forever Trial at Guantanamo
We'll hem and haw about it, but you're right that we won't do anything. Is it a cosmic injustice worthy of the guillotine for every president and official that has presided over it? Absolutely, but that's the thing with evil empires: the people populating it don't want to risk their good lives in the pursuit of real justice.
kuraudo··on The Forever Trial at Guantanamo
I remember reading as a kid that this is the kind of thing that an evil empire does. Now that I realize that evil empire is us, I don't understand how anyone can justify this horror show.
kuraudo··on OSHA to require employers with 100 employees vaccinate or test workforce
This argument implies that we should start mandating mandatory weight loss for the obese. The vaccine is about protecting other people, not hospital space.
kuraudo··on OSHA to require employers with 100 employees vaccinate or test workforce
>As another comment said, if the unvaccinated were willing to stick to their "ideals" and die at home instead of an ICU bed, I would be a lot more amenable to arguments against mandates.

This argument falls flat when we do not require mandatory weight loss from other citizens. The point of the vaccine is not to protect oneself from taking up an icu bed, but to protect other people.

kuraudo··on OSHA to require employers with 100 employees vaccinate or test workforce
As long as we mandate mandatory weight loss for all overweight citizens first.
kuraudo··on No laughing matter? what the Romans found funny
High school historian perspective: I don't know; compare their conquest to the greek's. Greek civilians thought of Rome as "the light of the world," even though their wealth was used in much the same way.
kuraudo··on LAPD officers told to collect social media data on every civilian they stop
We live in a world where people get shot for less. You better believe I'm complying with whatever they ask.
kuraudo··on Sacklers granted lifetime legal immunity in opioid settlement
Legality has nothing to do with justice; I'm all for bringing everyone you just described to justice. Laws are made by the rich, not the just.
kuraudo··on Sacklers granted lifetime legal immunity in opioid settlement
Anecdotal, but I had a dear and close friend who started with a totally innocent prescription who is no longer with me due to abuse. He wouldn't even touch marijuana prior; I would like to see the data of how common this is; I suspect it is more likely than you are implying.
kuraudo··on Sacklers granted lifetime legal immunity in opioid settlement
it's nice until the guillotines return.
kuraudo··on The Sackler Family Wins Immunity from Future Opioid Lawsuits
Why are we only talking about relieving them of their wealth? Why is capital punishment off the table?
kuraudo··on The Sackler Family Wins Immunity from Future Opioid Lawsuits
I disagree; free speech is already showing its degradation in the west: it's only a matter of time before we're left with nothing.
kuraudo··on The Sackler Family Wins Immunity from Future Opioid Lawsuits
More of a reason to get started now.
