By the same logic we can justify any [social issue] division. The sad thing is that the rules are arbitrary and do not help in solving the issue. Actually it is in the interest of the division to create or exaggerate problems to justify its existence.
If anyone is in doubt that's the purpose of this endeavor here's a related fragment: "- Realizing the declaration of the world’s resources as being the common heritage of all people.
- Replacing money-based nationalistic economies with a resource-based world economy."
It is a gamble. The interests can go up and then you could be cooked. And anyway you need to find a way to get ahead of the inflation with this money. Sure it is an opportunity but not without risks.
I did not say that taxes are evil per se, but bad taxes are bad.
"This undermines the free market (...)" - yes taxes obviously affect the free market. They are often meant to skew (regulate) it, like tax that targets unhealthy products eg cigarrets.
Also, the way we spend money is not neutral to the economy. By buying one product over another we send an important signal about what is valuable. If we, as a sociaty choose junk, we will get more junk, if we choose good products, we will get even better products in the future.
I recommend you read about "the broken window fallacy", since it is related.
Your last argument could be reduced to "if evil happens to me, why not make it happen to others". If taxing investment is bad let's agree not to do it, instead of perpetuating the abuse. And no, definitely not all money is productive and it can be easily wasted on worthless products and services. Taxing the tools to create value is not the same as taxing for example vodka.
I was referring to the WFH aspect the parent post mentioned. My point was that the admins could get the same level of access as if they were physically on site, assuming the correct setup.
It is a matter of preparation. You can make sure there are KVMoIPs or other OOB technologies available on site to allow direct access from a remote location. In the worst case technician has to know how to connect the OOB device or press a power button ;)
I do not think it is about the form. I believe it is about whether we can make others sacrifice for the common good. And this discussion involves us all.
I do not know what the author means by productivity. On the surface there is a structure in the thought achieved by versioning the term, but beyond that there is just the chaos of ideas. And I am not sold on redefining the words, please invent new ones if you really have to.
For the love of God, we do not want a government to be in charge of the innovation. When government declares specifically what technology is mandated then we can be quite certain that there will be no more progress in this area. For example why bother working on a better port than USB-C, if there is this new risk of not being able to even use it.
I know that there are built in workarounds ie default aliases and the case can be omitted. But it creates another set of problems related to documentation and code samples/conventions. The objects passing is great, but it is not enough for me, except for writing scripts. I guess there are ways to make it work fine as an interactive shell, but that is probably an extra customization and in some administrative environments it may not be possible.
One thing about PowerShell that annoys me is the verbosity and the use of capital letters in commands. While it is fine for scripts that you write once it feels suboptimal for daily use in a terminal, where I prefer the least strokes possible. Also the slow startup makes me often choose an alternative shell in Windows (CMD,bash).
I do not perceive productive as equal to fulfilling. But I understand you mean that for some people the sacrifice would not be worth the extra pay. It is another issue. Being a cog in a machine for x hours a day is a sacrifice. One voluntarily becomes a slave but in return can enjoy the fruits of the labour in the leisure time.
Regarding the matter of education, it is not always an option to do what ones enjoy for a living no matter the acquired knowledge and the degree that confirms that. Some work is more valued than other. The market, we, decide that by our selective spending. One can become expert in the ancient history and end up working at Starbucks just because there is no need for their knowledge.
The terms productive and profitable are tightly related to each other. Of course you can argue about definitions, but I think I understand what you mean anyway. Yes, some things are hard or impossible to price (measure). But nonetheless pricing is the best tool in this complex world that we have for deciding what is most productive. We get monetary compensation for our work that we can exchange for the work of others. The more we earn the more we can do. We can help others with our earnings, maybe more this way than by direct contribution. It is a matter of specialization and division of labor that helps everyone be more productive.
My point is that being a cog in the larger machine may be the most productive thing for a person. Even if it means doing a boring, repetitive job. For example someone shuffling boxes in Amazon may be way more productive than an office worker in some small company.
If shuffling boxes around gets them the highest pay they can get on the market it just may be the most productive thing they can do! That means being a useful cog in a very effective machine.
Or mid term. I wonder if there is a study that looks into this problem. I suppose it backfires similarly to minimum wage. The legislation while helping some workers will hurt others. I doubt it will be net positive.
I think it is a great strategy to push maintenance costs on customers as long as they swallow them :) Now seriously it is fine, it makes some room for competition to jump in. Sure as a customer I would like to have a great support for little cost. So I will look for such solutions on the market. I could also whine, but it is not too productive.
Why shouldn't intelligence be inherited while other traits are? It makes little sense to me, especially because intelligence is so important for survival.
As far as I know 4chan people were trolling the media and they succeeded. The result is both funny and scary. The scary part is that random people's lives are harmed because of some innocent photo or gesture. This insanity stems not only from media but also the new culture. Hopefully when going back to normality we will not swing too much to the other side.
I found out that a good way to learn idioms for a given language is to do some simple katas on codewars.com and then review the most upvoted solutions.
Well the fact there is more jobs than laborers can be explained by the government actions. If the government offers free money it rises the minimum wage that people are willing to accept. And if they do not produce more than before it means they are more expensive for the same quality/quantity and the prices will rise. The nominal numbers will get bigger eating away the savings that are kept in cash. Do not keep cash, invest or spend.
Good luck competing with the government's free money. The only solution is inflation. Let's increase the nominal wages, hence prices, while inevitably reducing the real wages, and purchasing power of savings. It may be a good time for assets owners at the cost of the middle class. Inflation is taxation but it is safer for politicians, since common people do not get it and do not blame the culprits.
