kubami··on Ask HN: What technology is “cutting edge” in 2022?
For anyone wondering what the hell is this:

EUV = extreme ultraviolet lithography

NA = numerical aperture

the NA part makes the EUV part better :)

These next-generation lithography systems will be key to advance Moore’s Law towards the logic 2nm technology generation and beyond.

kubami··on Rich: A Python library for rich text and formatting in the terminal
does it just work out of the box?
kubami··on Show HN: I make $3K/mo from a browser extension
...writing on twitter? wow! It seems hard work is paying off, congrats!
kubami··on Show HN: I make $3K/mo from a browser extension
How did you build the follower base in such a short time?
kubami··on Show HN: I make $3K/mo from a browser extension
So you're not really "scraping" Twitter, just using their API (but carefully not to go over rate-limiter/flagger)?
kubami··on Increase Your Consulting Rates (2015)
I think the question is, how to find "the subject".
kubami··on Epiousios
I think what the OP means is that on average native speakers understand the language intuitively, while most of the non-natives were taught the rules and structure of the language directly. Being a non-native english speaker I experienced this often. I have never gotten a useful answer for a question about english from English people. It usually was "oh, I just feel which word is right"...
kubami··on I use Attrs instead of Pydantic
The `attrs` authors address it in the documentation:

https://www.attrs.org/en/stable/overview.html#on-the-attr-s-...

At first, some people have a negative gut reaction to that; resembling the reactions to Python’s significant whitespace. And as with that, once one gets used to it, the readability and explicitness of that API prevails and delights.

For those who can’t swallow that API at all, attrs comes with serious business aliases: attr.attrs and attr.attrib.

kubami··on Ask HN: Companies of one, what is your tech stack?
Fair enough for the GraphQL.

However I'd say React is so widely use I'd say it is boring and stable (as the frontend tech goes)

Terraform, well, what is the alternative? Clicking through web interfaces, or bash scripting the cloud-provider CLIs.

kubami··on Ask HN: Companies of one, what is your tech stack?
Some of the libraries I use

- nltk - preprocessing

- spacy - preprocessing, entity recognition, part of speech recognition

- gensim - Similarity and clustering

- pytorch - ML model building

kubami··on Ask HN: Companies of one, what is your tech stack?
I make a lot of prototypes along with maintaining production systems. A lot of the projects have to do with ML/NLP, which basically means I have to chose python as a core backend language. Which is great, I love python. My core production system and every new prototype is: - Django + PostgreSQL - Celery + redis - for long-running tasks - React - GraphQL - Terraform + Cloud-init to provision the infrastructure

All quite boring and stable, the way it should be :)

I have a longer writeup, along with my reasoning for the technologies I chose: https://kubami.com/articles/my-modern-saas-software-stack/

kubami··on A haunting new documentary about Anthony Bourdain
Extroversion and introversion do not work like that.

In layman terms, it is where you "get your energy from". For introverts they spend energy when they have to interact with lots of people and be the "center of attention". But it doesn't mean they don't like it. Or that it's bad for them. It just means they have to go and be by themselves after to recuperate.

kubami··on Launch HN: Fig (YC S20) – Autocomplete for the Terminal
But I think it will be the same with Fig. They will take the autocomplete scripts from the vendors and integrate them with Fig.
kubami··on Launch HN: Fig (YC S20) – Autocomplete for the Terminal
Each needs to define an autocomplete script. oh-my-zsh provides plugins that do that for common tools like git.

Those scripts are usually supplied by the CLI tool itself. For example for terraform: https://www.terraform.io/docs/cli/commands/index.html#shell-...

kubami··on Beginner’s guide to mechanical keyboards
I think there is a distinct branch to this path. When you start building your own mechanical, ergonomic keyboards. I know this because I have built my first one couple of weeks ago [1], and am already thinking of how I can improve it.

kubami··on Ask HN: What was the biggest leadership challenge of your career?
IMHO having this as a rule that keys in dictionaries are sorted alphabetically can be a valid rule. But this should be enforced in tooling, not "rules", and not through micromanagement. Much like using opinionated code formatters - like `prettier` you mention. It makes lives of everyone easier down the line.

Sometimes this comes from years of experience (mostly pain ;)). Some leaders, while coming from a good place - I want to help you, and others, avoid pain in the future - communicate it very badly - do it like that... because I say so!

kubami··on E Ink smart screen puts a newspaper on your wall
I am not sure if this is a reference to telescreen from 1984 or not.
kubami··on SETI@home shuts down after 21 years
Ah! Athlons. My overclocking journey picked up when I built a DIY watercooler out of a bent 5mm cooper sheet (at which thickness you stop calling it "sheet"?) polished to a mirror finish. At some point, during the peak of easter european winter I kept the heat exchanger outside in the -20*C temperatures!
kubami··on Generative Art Finds Its Prodigy
I have built it myself. I was inspired by a couple of tutorials I found on the internet. Most of the components are off the shelf, stepper motors, smooth rods, belt, arduino, etc. The components that hold everything together are either 3d-printed or laser cut. The software that is running on the arduino that translates gcode -> stepper motor impulses is slightly modified grbl [0]

I have a (poor) timelapse video of the assembly process - [1]

Shameless plug: Inspired by "inconvergent" I have built a plotter and started working on my own generative art realised with pen and paper: https://www.instagram.com/framedbyher/
kubami··on Backyourstack: discover and sponsor your open-source dependencies
You can do that! Check out the section below the button.
kubami··on Show HN: Write every day, measure your progress, achieve your writing goals
There exists a similar "app" with the same premise: http://750words.com/

I used to use it long long time ago. It had other interesting features like sentiment analysis of entries. You could see for example that you were really sad that that week in december 2 years ago...

kubami··on Subutai – Primary military strategist of Genghis Khan
I recommend Dan Carlin's "Hardcore History" podcast. He has a series about the Mongol Empire called "Wrath of the Khans". The stories and delivery are amazing!

Here is a link to the first episode: http://www.dancarlin.com/product/hardcore-history-43-wrath-o...

kubami··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses?
Is this profitable? What's the business model, I can only see a donation button.
kubami··on Music for Programming
Yes! I'd recommend Rodrigo y Gabriela. In paricular albums '11:11' and 'Rodrigo y Gabriela'.
kubami··on Music for Programming
I have been listening to Civilization 6 soundtrack recently. It all-instrumental.

kubami··on Music for Programming
can you share some of your favourite tracks?
kubami··on Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
I am surprised no one mentioned freeciv yet. I used to play Civ II on Amiga. After moving to linux on a PC I found myself missing Civ and found freeciv. It was even better than Civ because of the multiplayer aspect of it. I played with my friends over 'LAN' over serial port connection. Ah! Good times!
kubami··on Show HN: I made a Chrome extension that helps battle impulsive procrastination
I have been using StayFocusd [0]

It has a time limit. And various other settings to stop you from, for example, disabling the extension.
