ksec··on macOS 27 Golden Gate
Safai 27, which is often the only thing I look forward to when new macOS comes out. But Golden Gate feels something similar to old Mac. may be the icon redesign. But for now it doesn't feel any faster than macOS26 on my M5 MBA.
ksec··on Apple Stores Said to Lose Video Walls, Regain Dedicated Genius Bars
Basically they are bringing back the old Apple Store design.

Ever since Steve Jobs passed away and Tim Cook let others continue to make Apple Store into something different. First a high street electronics store then a fashion showroom and then a "social community" space. It wasn't until Deirdre O'Brien took charge before she start to walk back a lot of changes.

Another Good sign from John since in charge.

ksec··on Will there be a 7G?
3G to 4G was a giant leap forward and it makes perfect sense. Your parent is specifically comparing 4G against 5G.
ksec··on Will there be a 7G?
It needs to work backwards, much like Video Codec and ask what do the stakeholders really want or need?

We are closing in to rolling out the last / final phase of 5G. And yet none of the Massive MIMO on FDD is happening. We are still stuck on 32T32R, hardly that impressive considering we have that in LTE already. Not to mention the insane complexity increase from 4G to 5G. And judging from the previews of 6G that seems to be event worst.

If you ask an average user, they will tell you they don't feel much different between 4G and 5G. Yes there are capacity increase and other things. But at this stage I don't think the benefits outweigh the cost of switching. That is both from MNOs and End user perspective.

ksec··on Apple A20 Pro Geekbench Result
Apparently the A20 Pro Performance Core is a new design that is different to the M6 Super Core.
ksec··on Apple A20 Pro Geekbench Result
2027 April will be MacBook Neo with A19 Pro and 12GB Memory.

2028 April we should be getting A20 Pro MacBook Neo. But I wouldn't be surprise if they bump the price by $100 again.

ksec··on Neki – Sharded Postgres
>Kinda ironic that Planetscale built their company on open source Vitess that google built

That Youtube built. I know at the time Youtube was already part of Google but I don't think of Vitess as a Google Stack.

ksec··on Apple A20 Pro Geekbench Result
This is interesting because the single Core is even fasting that the M5 suggest the two 2nm chip might not share the same Core.
ksec··on iPhone Duo
Apparently Foldables are incredibly popular in China. They sold more foldable in China than the rest of the world combined.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple release an iPhone Duo Max later.

ksec··on Thanks to Siri Recaps, your Apple Watch is always listening
I lost count how many times my boss will just flat out lie. This will be a very useful feature.
ksec··on iPhone Duo
I think the Duo looks great. And from the few hands on video I have seen I think the Apple presentation actually doesn't do it justice. There is no crease at all! [1]

On the note on this year's keynote. I can't be the only one who feels the whole vibe of the keynote changed. This isn't Tim Cook style keynote and John Ternus wasted no time to try and changed a few things already. I can't wait for John to further shake things up at Apple. But everything so far, all the small minor details suggest they are in the right direction.

ksec··on Apple Watch Series 12
I am looking forward to 3rd party testing on most accurate heart rate. Because I have both Series 11 and Google Fitbit Air and the Air is so much better in everything, from accuracy, when to track and display of information.

I just wish they made a band without all the hassle. I don't use my Watch for anything other than Stop watch, Alarm Clock and Health Tracking.

I will try the Audio note taking, although my current Boss constantly lie and deny she have said something I am not sure how useful will this feature be.

ksec··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
I am actually quite excited on this iPhone 18 Pro. Seems to pack a a lot of exciting stuff. 2nm A20 Pro, C2. I wish they have N2 but I guess not. 2nd Generation Vapour Chamber. I thought I would have to wait another generation because Apple like to use new product features for two generation before moving on. And it seems this Vapour Chamber along with other heat desperation features are much better built. Much better Camera. And larger battery. With 60W charging that finally matches or closes to a lot of Android phone has been doing.

Never thought they would do it all within one update. In terms of hardware that is pretty much everything I wanted other than Silicon Battery.

The only thing that need radical change is iOS.

ksec··on AirPods 5
Interesting on the pricing. You now get some of the best AirPod features all in $129. In Apple's pricing that is cheap.

On the other hand in the past few years I have noticed a lot of people wearing Sony's Wireless headset and Earphones. Apple used to dominate this category when they first launch AirPods. I am wondering what happened they people discovered they could use other brand and Apple's brand loyalty don't quite work.

ksec··on AirPods 5
>Extend the Stem!!

Same thought as well. It doesn't have to be much bigger, but even 10% longer would be much more useful from mic placement and battery perspective.

ksec··on The far right's win in Germany is sending a chill through Europe's establishment
I wasn't specifically speaking of Afd, but overall general direction of the term used by media. How many people who are moderate and haven't changed their views on things moved from moderate to being labeled as far right.

Anyway this topic shouldn't even be on HN. The story will likely be flagged soon.

ksec··on The far right's win in Germany is sending a chill through Europe's establishment
This isn't really news. Media has been calling anyone which does not align with their views as far right for more than a decade.
ksec··on Arm Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU: desktop-class mobile gameplay with AI-native graphics
>Xring O3.

I just can't wait to see it being tested in an actual phone. So far all the data are done on development board. If they are really as good as everything we have read so far, both Mediatek and Qualcomm are in big trouble.

ksec··on Arm Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU: desktop-class mobile gameplay with AI-native graphics
With IMG PowerVR mostly gone from Mediatek roadmap. Which means ARM Mali is effectively the GPU IP on Android, excluding Qualcomm Adreno which its market continue to shrink and concentrate on premium segment.

I wonder how far or how good Mali is now compared to others. I wish Chip and Cheese do compassion on GPU as well.

ksec··on Nvidia's Jensen Huang says 'AGI has arrived' and congratulates OpenAI
>until it reaches full human intelligence

I don't know if there was ever a formal definition of "human intelligence". But those who works inside software industry, the bar of human intelligence is comparatively higher, because that is what is considered as norm in industry.

If we take IQ curve, 50% of population will be under IQ 100. If current LLM scores better than IQ 100, i.e better than 50% of human population, is this AGI?

ksec··on Nvidia's Jensen Huang says 'AGI has arrived' and congratulates OpenAI
There was an HN comment I read a few months or may be a year ago, which stuck with me ever since.

He said he works on AI in the late 80s and early 90s in IBM. Had we shown him what we have today in 1995, he would certainly have called it AGI.

ksec··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
>In 2025: Wikimedia Foundation annual expenses are about $200m

Am I correct in understanding, the $200M annual spend include the salary of those workers. And in case of any mass layoffs incoming, they are forming an union to better bargain?

ksec··on Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda with immediate effect
May be in developing countries. In developed countries, qualities matter. And Uber tends to do much better there, even with higher price.
ksec··on Apple CEO Tim Cook's Legacy Is Dull Products and Spineless Capitulation
>despite no limit of "fuck you money" (Apple has a $4.665 trillion market cap and $62.5 billion cash on hand).

$62 billion is not a lot of money for Apple's size. And if there is one major thing that changed between Steve Jobs and Tim Cook's Apple, it is Steve Jobs prioritise a lot more for stakeholders, while Tim Cook 100% prioritise for shareholder. They went from being a pirate to become the navy.

Other than that the whole piece is more about Apple getting close to Trump than anything else.

ksec··on The Rise and Fall of Agent Civilizations
I am not sure how many people here watch Anime, but this reminded me of Sword Art Online.
ksec··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
>The sensible course for rejoining is to work towards Schengen or similar, while acting as a partner state in good faith for a decade or two.

Except nothing logical or sensible is ever done by the government. Which means it won't happen. At least not in the next 10 years.

By the time they come to that conclusion it will be 2035. And starting any talks or preparation would take at least another 5 years if not 10 given how slow these things move. And that is on the assumption public is not against it.

We are looking at 2046. The probability of Scotland breaking out and join the EU is higher than that happening.

ksec··on Bug Blindness
I am in latter camp. Although I also agree with you on >escalate "works according to spec".

But let me use Steve Job's phase, "you must start with the customer experience and work backwards to the technology".

A bug to developers is work according to spec, but a bug to a user is that is it has mismatched expectations. And it really should be someone's job to make sure this is corrected. But as parent said, there hasn't been one in most if not all companies.

And perhaps that is what makes old Apple such a success. They have a low pay $1 dollar salary beta tester to test out literally everything.

ksec··on Bug Blindness
I do think a lot of these are not Bug Blindness, but a bar for acceptable quality standards.

A low bar means people walk past without realising it, a medium bar may take notice but it doesn't bother them and tends to get throw out within min or seconds. A high bar gets insane irritation that some may even call OCD.

And unfortunately, these spectrum follows an S curve. If you have a high bar, you are likely in the single digit percentage monitory. And the same is across all things not just software.

ksec··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
It wasn't until this site did I know there are people with aphantasia but also have the ability to dream with at least some imagery details.

To answer your question. Nothing. It is just black. Not even a slight hint of shape of Eiffel Tower or even a tall rectangle or just outline of the structure. It is just nothing.

I sometimes think or wonder people who can dream and close their eyes and actually see things must have so much fun.

ksec··on Htmx 4.0
Congrats on the release. The next stage is probably some real world comparison between DataStar and HTMX 4.0. Or against Hotwire / Turbo.

And perhaps the long term goal is if half if not most of HTMX 4.0 could be inside HTML 5 spec.
