It is not a fetish, some people like this and others like that.

I like CLI more than TUI, and TUI more than GUI where appropriate. For working with text TUI is better, for e.g. images GUI (GIMP).

krzyk··on Gemini 4 Argon
Why use some GUI when there is a TUI?
krzyk··on You Said No MCP
MCP is only for agents, bash (and CLI) is for agents and people.
krzyk··on You Said No MCP
Now it is http, but previously it was some kind of binary protocol. And it was ... statefull, which is mind blowing, why would it be in the first place.

Nowadays they moved to http and stateless.

krzyk··on You said no MCP
And as a result it is the most hardened.
krzyk··on You said no MCP
But agents do write scripts, in bash. And they are very good at it. And bash is quite efficient with its pipeing.
krzyk··on Pi.dev: You Said No MCP
And subagents don't always communicate with each other, AFAIK that is the most common case.
krzyk··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
For me Anthropic models from 4.7 to 5 including where bad and ate tokens like crazy. Task delivery was worse than GPT 5.6 and token usage was 2-3x higher.

Looks like 5.5 is the new 4.6

krzyk··on Sonnet 5.5
I do, it gives some fun comparison between models.

You can also check for any kind of degradation of them - you have the prompt, it doesn't use much $.

krzyk··on Evolving programming languages in the AI era
Why not languages that are designed in that way, like Ada. Or if one wants less of rigidness then a static typed language that makes it hard to shoot in your foot like Rust,Java, C#?

JS derivatives are that, a derivative to a scripting language.

There is no way to have no "shady ad-free" on Google play. Have you tried installing anything that is free? Games for example? There are ads every few minutes that you either wait or accidentally click on them and you install another approved google play app, that has similar ads.

Look at apps on fdroid, no such thing.

So the solution is simple - ban google play and allow only fdroid if one wants good apps.

You can't protect everyone. Just like there are people oblivious to bad eating habits - it is a tax on ignorance.

That reminds me when I was in Schleswig (lovely town) on my way to Denmark. And I wanted to pay for 1 day stay, lady that had (a really nice) apartment said that unfortunately her terminal doesn't accept international debit/credit cards (wild! and probably not true) and I had to hunt for an ATM machine to get some cash. It was 13 years ago, I remember I was so surprised that the west is so far back behind us.

It is like saying that you should not have free speech because someone might influence 70+ to say stupid stuff (well, that is already happening...).

Family should be responsible on education or making phone of people that are not educated enough (minors, elderly, etc.) limited - I do that using Family Link. I have there my child and also my in-laws - both of them can't install new apps without my permission.

So the tech is already there, one just needs to use it.

krzyk··on F-Droid 2.0
There are such laws already, what ragequittah was proposing (and Google implementing) is handcuffing people that are not robbers.
krzyk··on F-Droid 2.0
It sounds like moving software devs closer to people doing hardware, they have to wait for their changes a bit longer.
krzyk··on F-Droid 2.0
If I'm a developer I also need to wait 24hrs to test my app?
krzyk··on F-Droid 2.0
Just like people get robbed, it is as common as that.

It doesn't mean one can't buy nice things because one is afraid of being robbed.

krzyk··on F-Droid 2.0
That means education for people: don't perform actions that are in emails.

Blocking apps is like blocking buying of knifes because one can hurt themselves.

And quite averse/backwater (choose your version) on using debit/credit cards. Which is mindblowing from my Easter European perspective. I didn't use cash in a decade.

See how StreetView looks like there (or looked), they have trouble being photographed.

Yes, but services are easier to replace than hardware. And control is something you have, and then you don't have if the country in which you operate decides otherwise (or US presidents throws another tantrum).

Companies use AWS because it is there and others used it, so they got ball rolling. It doesn't mean one couldn't replace it with another service, most probably more pricey one. If there would be some kind of war, then one doesn't need to have servers in US, and European ones are right there.

You can't easily replace e.g. lithium or other metals.

Fuel is problematic, but there are places that are closer that could sell them (middle east, if we ignore current Russian state of mind).

As for machinery, it is hard to guess what kind. Germany produces a lot of it, and I would guess China also.

Not sure about pharmaceuticals.

Generally US is not our greatest import partner, China is. And we have a big internal market also.

krzyk··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
And that is the beauty of it, no one is forced.

Benefits are more visible from the inside, and if you don't like it you can brexit.

Unfortunately no one can be forced out also.

krzyk··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Like what specifically? Only services come to mind. Any hardware is produced in Asia, in fabs that use equipment from Netherlands.
krzyk··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
There are way more benefits to being in EU than disadvantages.

It would be nice to have roam-like-at-home also.
krzyk··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
So it doesn't work on Steam Machine, and also won't work when streaming from it to Steam Frame :(

I don't have a windows machine for that. A bit disappointing.

krzyk··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
I was wondering, what could I play with it. But besides Half-Life Alyx (never played any of HF games), No Man's Sky and Elite: Dangerous, I couldn't find anything bigger (well, there is also SUPERHOT: VR).

I wonder why there are not that many 3D shooters, or 3D RPGs that use VR. The idea sounds great. Never used any of VR headsets and I was wondering if I should try out Steam Frame and if I don't like it I assume I could resell it later.

Also I wonder how well it would work with my headless linux gaming rig that I use for Game on Whales/Moonlight playing on my 3060ti card.

On the other hand, I still have Steam Deck that I used to play about 3 games total, it is unused besides that. But the initial investment is pretty high (well, it is AFAIR +50% from the Steam Deck 512GB price when I bought)

krzyk··on Make your first edit to OpenStreetMap
StreetComplete also asks about opening hours, but you need to have a POI added first (AFAIR StreetComplete allows adding POIs also)
krzyk··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
I don't think that works like that in Europe, cash backs are rare and even fewer people use them.

I have credit card only to be able to rent car on vacation. It is not used outside of that. For other payments I use debit card.

krzyk··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
I'm quite opposite. I avoid any places that don't accept card payments, because it usually means they are avoiding taxes. And I don't have cash on me, or wallet. Only phone or sometimes only my garmin watch (with garmin pay).
