krunck··on OpenAI and Anthropic unite against open-weight AI risks to their bottom line
> Some people in some large companies have absolutely cared about social good, art, and other things outside of financials.

But companies do not care about social good, art, and other things outside of financials. A company is a generalization of sorts of all the people within the company who have influence over it's direction. 100% of people working for companies have a profit motive. That's why people work for for companies.

This is great. Thanks.

Try fingerprinting the behaviour in the sessions. Over time you should be able to distinguish between various automated tools and live people.

I can't wait until we can start mining our landfills for plastics, metal, and intact Twinkies.

krunck··on Weave Robotics launches Isaac 1, a $7,999 home robot with Fall 2026 deliveries
"Is Isaac 1 teleoperated? Isaac 1 is autonomous for Laundry Flow and Daily Reset by default, with teleoperation assistance when needed to guarantee we complete tasks."

Offline and autonomous or never in my house.

krunck··on Opening up 'Zero-Knowledge Proof' technology to promote privacy in age assurance
"ZKP makes it possible for people to prove that something about them is true without exchanging any other data. So, for example, a person visiting a website can verifiably prove he or she is over 18, without sharing anything else at all."

But not "...without sharing anything else even when setting up your token."

Can I prove that some cryptographic token A) doesn't contain any PII and B) that the token itself can't be used as an ID tied to my identity in a Google or government database?

No and no. So, I do not support schemes like this.

krunck··on Android Developer Verification: Threat masquerading as Protection
Would this also be a strategy to get all Android users to have a Google account? Once you are locked in to using Google's Play Store then can then require login to even install apps. I don't have a Google account. I never will. If I am required to get one to use my phone(Fairphone4, eOS) then I will cease using the phone. There is nothing in my life that requires me to have an Android phone.
krunck··on For first time, a cell built from scratch grows and divides
Everything they are doing is dual use. Thus I don't feel the benefit.
krunck··on The Anti-Palantir Manifesto
I would say that all forms of incipient fascism and totalitarianism can really only be stopped by a motivated populace willing to step away from feelings of safety, from their endless entertainment, and embrace a bit of risk and stand up physically to their governments an yell at the top of their lungs: NO!

Sitting in your cozy home coding and thinking you are making a difference is bullshit. We are physical beings who ultimately fear physical violence from those who would oppress us. The response must be physical. Stand up, protest, make noise.

krunck··on What's wrong with EU age verification? (Nothing)
Can I prove that some cryptographic token A) doesn't contain any more information other than what the article outlines and B) that the token itself can't be used as an ID tied to my identity in a government database?

No and no. So, I do not support schemes like this.

krunck··on Supreme Court takes sledgehammer to federal regulatory structure
Who cares about campaigning? It's whats happens after the election that matters: Does the representative represent their constituents? That's not an electoral system issue.

Each eligible voter should get one vote of equal weight to all others. The EC breaks that.

krunck··on Xsnow "protestware" in Debian
One comment really nails the problem with this sort of thing:

" People in Western countries don't realize how bad the situation on the ground actually is¹; random Ukrainian flags showing up on your work monitor can result in severe problems for you (like losing you job, or worse), especially if you work in the government sector. If they show up on your laptop in a random cafe or an airport, you might very well get a beating from one of many "war heroes" that walk around the cities these days.

No, the government sector doesn't just make missiles and bombs, it also covers schools, hospitals, many other things."

krunck··on 30-year sentence for transporting zines is a five-alarm fire for free speech
So I wonder if I go around saying I'm "pro-fascist", it's OK now because I'm not saying I'm "anti-fascist"? But that would be false of me. So maybe I can only declare I'm "fascism-neutral"? That would also be false.

krunck··on FUTO Swipe – A new swipe typing model

krunck··on A deadly fungus that can infect cats and people is spreading
"Who is at risk?

Sporotrichosis affects otherwise healthy individuals, often those working in agriculture or with plants or plant materials, such as packing straw or thatching. It also affects individuals exposed to the fungus during leisure outdoor activities associated with skin abrasions. Contact with domestic or feral cats, particularly among veterinarians and others looking after cats, may also lead to infection in some regions."

krunck··on Encrypted Spaces An architecture for collaborative applications
So it seems this is a system where the server only does encrypted storage and minimal processing on plaintext that it is allowed to decrypt. I was hoping it was a FHE implementation where the server does computation on the encrypted data. Still waiting for that.
krunck··on Thermodynamics rules future orbital data centers
They'll pay the price if it means their data centers are immune to the anger of the commoners who are being surveilled, analyzed, and manipulated by systems running on these data centers.
krunck··on L'Affaire Siloxane
No mention was made of eliminating the siloxane use by astronauts: leave-in hair conditioner, deodorant, etc.

krunck··on Pokémon Go Scans Trained the Navigation Tech for Military Drones

“We just launch it and we know everything will be dead – everything that will be found there in this particular area will be dead,” says Kokhanovskyy. “There is no connection to the drone at all, you cannot see the video, nothing… Everything it sees will be killed.”
Because there are never any civilians caught in the middle of two warring armies, right? I think the ICC will be getting real busy soon.
