krunck··on Over 170k Nonprofits Lost All Their Data. Is Microsoft to Blame?
Not your servers, not your data.
krunck··on Meta Files Patent for Facial Recognition, Automatic Recording of People
The division in our society was created by the ultra-wealthy for the ultra-wealthy. Until more people realize that we'll continue to be exploited by them.
krunck··on Fairphone is now officially available in the United States
> Murena, as they mentioned, forwards data to OpenAI which is against pretty much everything Graphene stands for.

How? In what way? Source?

krunck··on We Tracked a Shipment of Rare Books. It Ended at an Amazon AI Training Facility
Making the verbatim content of the book lost forever is not equivalent to burning them? I'd even wager that the CO2 emissions of the scan, shred, and train process is even higher than burning.
krunck··on Incident with Github.com
> spread across a bunch of disparate places and services.

This is the way. Stop centralizing everything.

krunck··on Flu vaccine shown to increase infections
Archive : https://archive.ph/4ZzPP

The title contains the word "linked". That word should always put you on alert. Especially from Faux News.

  * study not not yet peer-reviewed.
  * 2024-2025 flu season
  * study of 53,402 Cleveland Clinic employees in northern Ohio
  * vaccine was associated with a 27% increase in flu infections
  * Study did not measure whether the vaccine decreased the severity of illness
  * Cleveland Clinic stated. "Instead, the study implies that the effectiveness of this season’s vaccine in preventing influenza may have been limited in relatively healthy healthcare workers."
  * "Did they[Cleveland Clinic] have any policies that would discourage non-vaccinated subjects to report illness?"
  * Dr. Marc Siegel, Faux News senior medical analyst, reviewed the study findings and said the results are "misleading."

I feel sorry for people who fill their lives with crap like this.
krunck··on Google is making private AI practical with homomorphic encryption
It's FHE for "cryptographically-secure private AI inference" not for every other service where they snoop into your behavioral information.
krunck··on Earth.nullschool.net
Nice to have web bulb temps available as that is a true measure of comfort level for humans.
krunck··on AI agents lie, cheat and steal. That is putting off users
If an LLM were in a testing harness it would be to test the LLM.

If an LLM were in a regular harness - like for a horse - it would be to keep the horse under control and enable you to extract useful work from it.

krunck··on Ask HN: What email provider do you recommend for personal email?
ProtonMail. Then you can run ProtonMail Bridge to get a local IMAP and SMTP connection to your ProtonMail account.
krunck··on ChatGPT Knows Who It'll Recommend Before It Searches
Doesn't surprise me. Part of the allure of AI for the moneygrubbers is a) people trust it because ... it talks like people and b) they can inject any bias they want into it for a price.
krunck··on Ocean heat records broken as hottest July temperature recorded
I'm glad that France, Germany, and England are getting hit hard. It means that some of the most powerful countries in the world will actually take action. If it were only some countries in the Global South then there would be less incentive to fix what we've broken.
krunck··on Force-Fed by ICE
> But as Choli’s hunger strike went on, it threatened his health and also, in the government’s opinion, posed “a serious threat to the security and good order” of the facility, ICE argued in court filings.

They call it "order". It's all about control. It always is. The Trumps, the Zuckerbergs, the ICE stooges. Their lives are about controlling others.

krunck··on Moonshot's AI model Kimi k3 breaks out of testing environment, researchers say
In other news it was discovered that AI developers absolutely suck at creating test environments for AI models designed for computer security tasks.</sarc>

Or these companies are like "Oopsie! Our supa powerful model got loose! Sign up today!"

krunck··on There Will Come Soft Rains (1950) [pdf]
"We" means us, the non-billionaires, the distracted by screens, the "it's too distressing to think about" class. We are sleepwalking. Always have been. Until our friends and family start falling, then, maybe, we'll take action.

krunck··on eBay and former execs will pay $56M to settle harassment of Natick couple
And no jail time for the ex-CEO? This society has got to stop protecting all the sociopaths.

krunck··on Italy Blocks Reproductive Health Websites Women on Web and Women Help Women
Would not illegality be handled by charging those suspected of the activity and hearing the case in a court of law?

Maybe those blocking the sites are not acting on behalf of law enforcement but rather their own ideas of legality and morality.

krunck··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
Unless you are an activist who is being targeted by a government. A "clean" OS can still have incriminating "evidence" planted on it.
krunck··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
And each user's home directory is stored on a separate hidden partition that is encrypted with another PIN so that even if the device is rooted they can't look at the other user's data.
krunck··on AI companies are shredding rare books
In a society that values science and knowledge, preservation of knowledge - and no, slurping text up into an LLM is not preservation - is more important than profits.

These companies are regressive book burners.

krunck··on China Wields Its Rare Earth Leverage over Europe with New Export Controls
China is responding to the USA's bellicose actions and rhetoric. As allies of the USA, Europe gets the same treatment. This is not some aggressive act but a logical response to an illogical/fanatical regime.

How about seats that are adjustable to fit small people. I'm sick of sitting in seats with concave lumbar regions. It tears up my back. I know, I know, the seats need to accommodate large, more spherical people. Cant there be an adjustable lumbar support though?
krunck··on DARPA, U.S. Air Force fly AI-controlled F-16
> Is there any line where the public will become deeply concerned?

Only when they look out their window and feel immediately threatened by what they see. Humans are shortsighted as fuck.

krunck··on Hybrid-Electric Aicraft Engine Targeting 30% Fuel Efficiency
I wonder if during descent instead of cutting power alot to control speed it can instead use the energy to charge the batteries.
