kropotkin··on X86-TSO: A Rigorous and Usable Programmer’s Model for x86 Multiprocessors (2010)
IRIW stands for "independent reads of independent writes".

IWP stands for "Intel white paper".

The submitted article (published in CACM) is a less formal and condensed form of https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~pes20/weakmemory/x86tso-paper.pdf which does, in fact, define all of its acronyms and include examples numbered n1 through n8.

Are Tor users going to be blocked from accessing the new site also?

> they distributed unix source code without giving away the rights, then took them back

I always found it ironic (or perhaps subversive, not sure which) that the guys in the Unix room later based 8th Edition Research Unix on 4.1cBSD.

Since you're looking for recommendations, try Blow Out directed by Brian De Palma in 1981. I saw this film recently and thought it had a very interesting style, especially the shots using a split focus diopter.

Another well-known example of violence against striking workers in the US is the Ludlow massacre. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludlow_Massacre
kropotkin··on [dead]
Exactly. This article needs some better research. The real history of the eight-hour work day is intertwined with the history of worker's movements beginning in the mid 1800's. Ford was nothing more than an opportunistic Capitalist (hint: they all are). If you're interested in this subject, I suggest learning about the NLU, the Knights of Labor, August Spies, Haymarket, etc.

kropotkin··on FBI Admits It Controlled Tor Servers Behind Mass Malware Attack
This particular attack exploits a known issue of Tor, which has existed by design since day one.

Just so everyone's clear, this was not a "known issue of Tor". It was a javascript based Firefox exploit.

At any time the police could in theory fly to your house, launch tear gas into your windows, and shoot you in the head as you run out. And I don't know about you, but I'm not exactly worried about that happening to the point where I want to take guns, tear gas, and helicopters away from the police.

You might want to rethink your position: http://www.democracynow.org/2010/5/13/25_years_ago_philadelp...

kropotkin··on Poll: How old are you?
Hacker News has a low tolerance for this kind of humor. You just couldn't resist, could you?
kropotkin··on Sheldon Brown's Articles
Agreed. That's one of my favorites. Sheldon was such an awesome guy. It's really cool seeing all these positive comments here!
kropotkin··on Ask pg: why have hellbans become so widespread on HN?
Are you guys joking? I've been reading Hacker News on and off for years and the majority of the people here are squarely center-right. I can count on one hand the number of regular commenters that I'd consider to be on the Left.

Hacker News is for the most part a forum for pro-Capitalists interested in technology.

Property has not always existed and it's not a fundamental "aspect of human psychology". If you said possession, I'd probably agree with you but you could say the same thing about sharing and cooperation.
kropotkin··on Distributed Balance
How do you plan to reconcile the web of trust with the potential harm that can come to people who leak data?

I think the real issue is verifying the legitimacy of a leak. If you can verify something, you don't have to trust the person who posted it and they can remain safe and anonymous.

Also, are you familiar with http://globaleaks.org/ ?

kropotkin··on The Department of Homeland Security Stole My Boat Today
Law enforcement agents are not fellow citizens. They are tools used by the State to engage in class warfare.
