kristiandupont··on Anthropic achieves ISO 42001 certification for responsible AI
>he was told

That can mean a lot of things. Someone suggesting it because they think that's where things are going versus someone warning or threatening. With the little I know of the man, I take anything he says about the government with a truck load of salt.

kristiandupont··on I deleted my social media accounts
Someone recently created a "duplicate" account for the dad of one of my friends. Same profile picture, username very similar. But one of his friends who received a friend request from the new account was already friends with the old account and wrote a message asking what that was about, which is how my friend discovered it. So at least in that one instance, having the account was helpful.
kristiandupont··on Vanished from Google/Bing/LinkedIn: a rebuttal of an anti-net neutrality paper
Should I be worried that people think I'm a bigot if I write "they" about someone I don't know, now?
kristiandupont··on Meta is killing off its AI-powered Instagram and Facebook profiles
LLM's did well: https://blog.scottlogic.com/2024/12/15/llms-vs-aoc.html
kristiandupont··on I am rich and have no idea what to do
Being insecure is indeed a pretty basic human "drive", but I don't think it's particularly mature either. I don't have any data but my intuition tells me that those tend to wane over time.
kristiandupont··on U.S. Army Soldier Arrested in AT&T, Verizon Extortions
That freedom may disappear in the future. And you won’t be able to delete your trails then.
kristiandupont··on Does current AI represent a dead end?
>We're being told we do not have to verify. The AI knows all.

Where are you being told all of these things? I haven't heard anything like it.

kristiandupont··on OpenAI whistleblower found dead in San Francisco apartment
That's a cop-out. Unless you want to expand your statement to "there is no right and wrong, period", which just means you have no moral compass.
kristiandupont··on That's not an abstraction, that's a layer of indirection
Indirection serves a purpose as well. One that is related to, but not the same as abstractions. When you add a layer of indirection, you make it easier to, say, delete or change every item X instead of iterating through everything.

Unnecessary or redundant levels of indirection are bad, just like unnecessary or wrong abstractions are. But when applied correctly, they are useful.

kristiandupont··on OpenAI whistleblower found dead in San Francisco apartment
Yes there is.

>In this case to support the war.

while all of you Putin supporters are such a peace loving people, right?

kristiandupont··on Deepfakes weaponised to target Pakistan's women leaders
>I'd also argue considering them so is close to "thought police"

How do you reach that conclusion? Deepfakes get shared, which has real consequences for people.

kristiandupont··on The Startup Trap (2013)
Also known as "those who can't do, teach".
kristiandupont··on Show HN: It took me 5() months to build a Plausible alternative
I don't think ONCE is a loss leading marketing device for them. That would also seem like a pretty poor strategy, as those users are pretty unlikely to convert.
kristiandupont··on Firefox DevTools Network Tab: How to filter requests by properties
I wish there was a way to save or "favourite" filters. I often find setting them up to be tedious enough that I just scroll through everything instead.
kristiandupont··on The tech utopia fantasy is over
This is my sentiment too. It feels like the world is entering a dark period like it has many times before in history. I don't consider tech to be the cause, but it does seem to accelerate and amplify things.
kristiandupont··on You Exist in the Long Context
I made some similar observations ([link redacted]): I studied neuroscience at university but everything I learned seemed incredibly abstract. Playing with LLM's and trying to create human-like behavior made many psychological conditions much more tangible, even if the LLM is only an approximation of some process that happens in our heads.
kristiandupont··on I Followed the Official AWS Amplify Guide and Was Charged $1,100
That seems like a very hypothetical problem you are solving there..
kristiandupont··on We built a self-healing system to survive a concurrency bug at Netflix
That was a bit underwhelming compared to what the headline set my expectations up for, but definitely a good idea and neat solution.
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
If this is really your perception, then you live in an incredibly well insulated bubble. If we are including media and pundits, I can assure you that the vitriol that has been coming from the right for well over a decade easily compares.
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
I know that they have, but that's not why people voted for Trump. You just like to say that to try and make it look like something the libs brought on themselves.

And as you agreed, Trump does the same, more than anyone. So unless you are openly stating "the left should behave more decent than the right if they want votes", there is a problem in your logic as well.

kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Yeah, you all keep making that point. But I don't believe for a second that a single voter went with Trump because the libs had called them mean words.
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
And that point is stupid. because there are audio recordings of Trump saying that he just needs 11 thousand votes.
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
It sure was but you were implying that this was a problem with the left.
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
True, but it still negates your claim that "He hasn't run on a platform of eliminating democracy".
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
> he let the democratic procedures take place, a fascist wouldn't do that.

He did so because he had no other choice. Mike Pence, of all people, rescued democracy. If it hadn't been for him, Donald Trump would not accepted the transfer of power.

And this is what the difference boils down to. You and I both know that Trump would have declared himself the winner no matter what the vote count had been. And we also both know that Harris is going to concede to Trump because the vote count says so.

kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
He literally tried to overthrow the election 4 years ago. I mean, he wasn't exactly being subtle about it!
kristiandupont··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Trump has called his opponents fascists a million times.
kristiandupont··on Rewrite It in Rails
>[...] suddenly the function returns a number array instead of a string and the compiler will be just fine with it.

The type checker is quite forgiving, but that does not sound like something it would just be fine with?

The TS type system is not sound which has obvious tradeoffs. I prefer it over Rust for most things because Rust feels like a Comic-book-guy type person looking over my shoulder going "Akshually, you didn't tell me what the lifetime of this string is", even if it is trivially obvious. I acknowledge that there are situations where that is very valuable but in my opinion it's not generally superior.

kristiandupont··on How I write code using Cursor
The OP said they had it use another HTML page as a style reference. Pandoc couldn't do that. Just like millions of other specific tasks.
