kridsdale3··on OpenClaw is basically a cascade of LLMs in prime position to mess stuff up
But humanity is gaining hugely productive (in financial terms) assets. It doesn't matter if the entity or its investors that created the asset goes kaboom.

Most of the investors and companies that built the rail network went bust. The iron remained.

Most of the investors and companies that built the telecom network went bust. The fiber remained.

Most of the investors and companies that are building models will go bust. The files (open weight or transfered to new owners for pennies) will remain, and yield economic benefits for as long as we flow current through them.

This just looks like /r/subredditsimulatorgpt2 from 10 years ago.

I sure wish back then I had realized how big a deal that subreddit would come to become.

I think the StarCraft analogy is fine, you have to compare it not to macro and micro RTS play, but to INDIVIDUAL UNITS. For your whole career until now, you have been a single Zergling or Probe. Now you are the Commander.

kridsdale3··on “Erdos problem #728 was solved more or less autonomously by AI”
Not just for math, but ALL of Science suffers heavily from a problem of less than 1% of the published works being capable of being read by leading researchers.

Google Scholar was a huge step forward for doing meta-analysis vs a physical library.

But agents scanning the vastness of PDFs to find correlations and insights that are far beyond human context-capacity will I hope find a lot of knowledge that we have technically already collected, but remain ignorant of.

kridsdale3··on The Jeff Dean Facts
I just searched Moma, and your note about it going down is the most recent update on this front. Interestingly though, it looks like Moma itself has a custom SERP renderer for Jeff Dean facts that came up when I searched. The example fact that came up was hilarious, but I guess I shouldn't share it on public HN.

Is this startup sitting on any IP other than a bunch of prompts?
kridsdale3··on Your job is to deliver code you have proven to work
Okay.

Go write an operating system and suite of apps with global memory and no protections. Why are we wasting so much time on abstractions like processes and objects? Just let let everyone read and write from the giant turing machine.

The professor's in-progress manuscript. Sorry, but I didn't retain any information from then in order to look it up, that was 20 years ago.

Google SWE working in this space here. Look up my username (minus the digit) on Moma, let's talk. I can't ID you from your HN handle.
kridsdale3··on A2UI: A Protocol for Agent-Driven Interfaces
Server Driven UI has absolutely caught on. Not including all the Electron apps out there, things like Instagram's native mobile apps have about half of their screens being SDUI at this point because Meta needs to be able to change them instantly, not with a 3 week release cycle.

I'm one of these people. We have to start working on the problem many months before the competition announces that they exist. So we are all just doing parallel evolution here. Everyone agrees that to sit and wait for a standard means you wouldn't waste energy, but you'd also have no influence.

Like you mentioned, its a good time to be employed.

kridsdale3··on A2UI: A Protocol for Agent-Driven Interfaces
I recently heard that when automobiles were new the USA quickly ended up in a state with 80 competing manufacturing brands. In a couple decades, the market figured out what customers actually want and what styles and features mattered, and the competition ecosystem consolidated to 5 brands.

The same happened with GPUs in the 90s. When Jensen formed Nvidia there were 70 other companies selling Graphics Cards that you could put in a PCI slot. Now there are 2.

kridsdale3··on A2UI: A Protocol for Agent-Driven Interfaces
The need here is at some point an agent has to produce an output that is consumed by a human with eyes. A pixel grid on a screen is far more high bandwidth to send information to a human than a linear string of text.
kridsdale3··on A2UI: A Protocol for Agent-Driven Interfaces
Sure. HTML is a Markup-Language (it's in the acronym). Markdown is also a Markup Language. LLMs are super good at Markdown and just about every chatbot frontend now has a renderer built in.

A2UI is a superset, expanding in to more element types. If we're going to have the origin of all our data streams be string-output-generators, this seems like an ok way to go.

I've joined an effort inside Google to work in this exact space, though what we're doing has no plan to become open source, other groups are working on stuff like A2UI and we collaborate with them.

My career previous to this was nearly 20 years of native platform UI programming and things like Flutter, React Native, etc have always really annoyed me. But I've come around this year to accept that as long as LLMs on servers are going to be where the applications of the future live, we need a client-OS agnostic framework like this.

The best class I took in EE school was the 400 level course on this material.

Mathematically had us working from Schrödinger to LEDs and Transistors over the course of 4 months. Changed my whole perspective on shit.

I have also tried the maze from a photo test a few times and never seen a one-shot success. But yesterday I was determined to succeed so I allowed Gemini 3 to write a python gui app that takes in photos of physical mazes (I have a bunch of 3d printed ones) and find the path. This does work.

Gemini 3 then one-shot ported the whole thing (which uses CV py libraries) to a single page html+js version which works just as well.

I gave that to Claude to assess and assign a FAANG hiring level to, and it was amazed and said Gemini 3 codes like an L6.

Since I work for Google and used my phone in the office to do this, I think I can't share the source or file.

I've read all of Ted's work and I hope you do try going back to Exhalation and just skipping TLOSO to get to more good stuff. It is far too long and I thought there was some value in it, but it was a slog, and in the bottom 1/4 of the stories IMO, so just skip it and get more great value.

I was at Meta when it was forced by the FTC to start adding this compliance stuff. It SUCKED to retrofit everything.

Now I'm at google, and onboarded on to the version of the infra that already went through that, and I can take it all at face value. It is a PAIN still, but this is the reality of a system that interfaces with O(10^8) users, O(10^2) governments.

I wish I had an answer for you. I spend at least half of the past year trying to make that decision. The internal LLM that can read all the docs and code, you'd think, could get the context to know what the optimal state is, but it easily gets confused by out of date documentation and recommends paths that are going to be marked as "why didn't you use the new thing?" at review time, OR it builds out a solution using "oh, this isn't ready for use yet" parts.
