krageon··on Ask HN: How did Soham Parekh get so many jobs?
Companies don't want contractors because they're perceived as (and often are) unreliable. Lower pay won't fix that, and a good hiring manager won't let someone weasel their way through that with this kind of prestidigitation.
krageon··on Why email startups fail
This just isn't true. For some reason everyone keeps repeating it anyway, I suspect because they haven't tried it and someone told them confidently it wasn't practical.
krageon··on What Does a Post-Google Internet Look Like?
It may have been tiny, but it was more useful than what we have today
krageon··on The Polymarket users betting on when Jesus will return
You either believe everything will be over or you're a heretic. Not really any flavours to be had.
krageon··on Getting a Cease and Desist from Waffle House
Your perspective is incredibly US centric, so it is important to note that almost nothing which you note as normal or just happening is okay in the EU.
krageon··on OpenAI Codex hands-on review
I don't think GP said they couldn't do their job, but you instantly jumped to incompetence. That seems little uncharitable to me.
krageon··on 18-Year-Old U.S. Teen Develops AI to Reveal 1.5M New Space Objects
If they're 18, does this not just make them an adult? Why emphasise that it's a teen?
krageon··on Jury orders NSO to pay $167M for hacking WhatsApp users
In any practical sense the Soviet Union did in fact do the lion's share of beating the Nazis. They opened an extra front and sent in a staggering amount of troops. I don't see why it is still so demonized, except when you view it directly through the lens of US propaganda.

Their death toll, such as it is, is not even a tenth of the incredible casualty rate of the British. It does not need to be said that they're nowhere near as demonised, except in India. The scope and depth of a civilisation's deaths is not actually all that relevant to how much people hate it.

krageon··on Daily Pill May Work as Well as Ozempic for Weight Loss and Blood Sugar
Oh okay, that makes a lot of sense.
krageon··on Adipose tissue retains an epigenetic memory of obesity after weight loss
You are implying that humans receive energy from another source, which is an extraordinary claim that you should motivate somehow.
krageon··on Adipose tissue retains an epigenetic memory of obesity after weight loss
But it is basic physics, which is in fact being violated. It's really very normal to require exceptional proof for this. Like literally any scientific study, not just an anecdote claiming magic.
krageon··on I Cannot Be Technical
if you write explicitly to not be understood you're not proving anything except that you're not a nice person
krageon··on Daily Pill May Work as Well as Ozempic for Weight Loss and Blood Sugar
You're saying you did what op said and that it worked, and framing it like a criticism.
krageon··on Temu pulls its U.S. Google Shopping ads
If you actually read the article you see this garment lacked a "flammable" label. It's not the flammability that wouldn't happen, it's just a tiny warning.

This article is outrage bait, especially obvious given the incredibly graphic pictures and the high focus on emotional statements combined with the low amount of actually important detail (what went wrong? It's not what you or the article are implying, which is the fire risk).

krageon··on Show HN: Appear as anyone in video calls like zoom or Google meets
People don't have to like what you like and they don't need to give you a justification either. Your tone is needlessly antagonistic and dismissive. Not to mention patronising.
krageon··on Big LLMs weights are a piece of history
The shame you feel is yours, it's not inherent to the sizing.
krageon··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
I get my information from actual european reports, which is pretty far from russian propaganda. It's a little tedious to be told every time this is the case, and no amount of proof (signed and sourced from websites belonging to EU institutions no less) will change people's minds. That is what blatant propaganda looks like. Folks cannot contend with facts anymore in their rabid need to seem against whatever the demon of the month is. Sometimes in a conflict everyone is just garbage and that's okay.
krageon··on Is nearly a quarter of Gen Z queer – or is something else going on?
This article appears to be making the case that it's definitely just lost children trying to replace religion. Infantilising boomer logic strikes again.
krageon··on Orchid's nutrient theft from fungi shows photosynthesis-parasitism continuum
So you're saying it can definitely be classified this way, it's just not done properly
krageon··on Malaysia is betting on data centers to boost its economy
Ignoring an explicit law and then getting punished (and not even all that badly) is not at all germane to the subject, which is insecurity about rules that may start existing soon or are undocumented.

If you go to a muslim country and make out with another dude you're making a statement, which is fine. You know what the consequences will be before you do it. Your described scenario is no different from saying using white phosphorus on civilians is bad on stage in the US, which will also land you in incredible trouble.

krageon··on Egg prices are soaring. Are backyard chickens the answer?
These vending machines exist where few people are
krageon··on The year I didn't survive
If you can change it with your environment, you were misdiagnosed
krageon··on The year I didn't survive
The entire point of clinical depression is that it's not environmental, it's intrinsic. Yes, this means it won't change - that's why antidepressants exist. It's why you should see a therapist for it, and should stop listening to people implying you can just eat different or whatever. This knowledge sucks, but you trying to keep that a secret and shaming someone into silence isn't helping.
krageon··on Advertising Is a Cancer on Society (2019)
Are you implying that kindness and advertising are basically the same? I can't imagine anyone being this reductive but I can't figure out a different way to read it.
krageon··on To buy a Tesla Model 3, only to end up in hell
It's something that's used, but I'd make the case it was never proper. The time component is right there!
krageon··on To buy a Tesla Model 3, only to end up in hell
You take the CEO to a dank isolated cell for a few days and publicly flog them.
krageon··on Are LLMs able to notice the “gorilla in the data”?
If a user misunderstands the purpose and value of a tool, this is PEBKAC.
krageon··on Are LLMs able to notice the “gorilla in the data”?
> half of humanity wouldn't meet their standards.

All anti ai sentiment as pertains to personhood that I've ever interacted with (and it was a lot, in academia) boils down to arguments for the soul. It is really tedious and before I spoke to people about it it probably wouldn't have passed my turing test. Sadly even very smart people may be very stupid and even in a place of learning a teacher will respect that (no matter how dumb or puerile), more than likely they think the exact same thing.

krageon··on Starlink in the Falkland Islands – A national emergency situation?
You should describe unethical conduct as bad. Most actual human beings have a dim view of unmitigated capitalism.
krageon··on What really happens inside a dating app
I am above average in looks and while lots of people do like being approached, it is sometimes not so fun. I've been stalked, assaulted, molested - this is not an issue you'll hit online. And it's easier to filter the really bad news without any possibility of someone following you home.
