kouzant··on Google Cloud in the list of 4 EU sovereign cloud providers
Unfortunately that's a sign that in Europe we are not ready yet to support ourselves. That said, there are great initiatives and I'm sure they'll come to fruition soon
kouzant··on FOSDEM Without a PostgreSQL Devroom?
Probably but traditionally FOSDEM had a postgres devroom - and a mysql & friends room :)
kouzant··on Intelligent Kubernetes Load Balancing at Databricks
Is this something that could be solved with Consul? Consul will return the IP address of the Pod(s) and it already hooks in Kubernetes liveness for failure detection. It also supports weighted results for more complex routing.
kouzant··on Migrating from AWS to a European Cloud – How We Cut Costs by 62%
Sure but as soon as you cross the boundaries of your provider both cost and latency start to ramp up ;)
kouzant··on Migrating from AWS to a European Cloud – How We Cut Costs by 62%
We use Hetzner internally for development. At the time of planning and migration Hetzner's Object Storage offering was not GA which was technically a deal breaker. Maybe we can consider Hetzner for our EU multi-cloud
kouzant··on Migrating from AWS to a European Cloud – How We Cut Costs by 62%
You'd be surprised :) We had to migrate a few thousand projects and their feature data and users' custom images. It was substantial. (eng@Hopsworks)

Hetzner's Object Storage does not seem API complete and it was released only recently.

OVHCloud has a very decent support for automation - Terraform among others https://help.ovhcloud.com/csm/en-terraform-at-ovhcloud?id=kb...

Feature data serve as the cornerstone for building robust models capable of making accurate predictions and classifications across various domains.
kouzant··on Feature Store Summit is live
A very nice chance listening industry leaders' ideas on this emerging area.
kouzant··on Curl is C (2017)
I would also add, some people suggesting to rewrite curl are younger than curl
kouzant··on Use Your Bike as a Backup to Your Backup Power Supply
Now that all races and events are collapsing under Covid, we could hook in pro cyclist and pay them to cycle. Win win situation
kouzant··on Use Your Bike as a Backup to Your Backup Power Supply
I haven't done the maths but I have a feeling the jellys you need to eat to sustain that power output marginally cost more than the electricity you would consume otherwise.
kouzant··on Do not install RVM until they fix the domain name and certificate issue
No it wouldn't have failed to GET. The domain is resolved correctly ...but in the wrong IP.

Very easily someone could upload a malware which would be piped to bash.

There is an open issue in GitHub https://github.com/rvm/rvm/issues/4841

reposted a few times because HN has a small problem now with the "ask" post and generate a bogus message. Original: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21912800

The domain is also parked in Sweden. Also, the certificate has been issued at Monday, December 30, 2019 at 1:00:00 AM
kouzant··on The challenges of teaching software engineering
I hope they don't add Jupyter notebooks to the syllabus. One day we'll wonder what went bad and whole programs are written in a single module/file :)

Jokes aside, Jupyter and relevant projects are great tools but they drive programmers towards wrong paths.
